Old School Building

Hi folks,

A large school has recently been purchased and converted into individual business offices. There are 3 portals already established on the property, but none appear in PokéGo. Further, no Pokémon spawn in the area. What's the best process to reclassify this area as non-school grounds? I'm wagering that if I submit new stops, they'll be flagged as duplicates.

Thank you :)

You would be correct that nominating anything that already exists in the database would flag it as a duplicate. As for the lack of the wayspots and spawns in the location in Pokémon Go, that's not really a relevant issue for this forum, and there's not much you can do about it at any rate.

Niantic uses OpenStreetMap data for Pokémon Go, but doesn't regularly update the data that they're using. The chances are that an OSM user has already updated the location to match its current usage as offices, but until Niantic chooses to update the OSM data they're using, this change will not be reflected in game. It may be several years before the data is updated to reflect the change, and there's nothing you can do to speed up the process.

It's very likely that no wayspots appear in any games. A while ago Niantic aggressively changed their stance on K-12 school properties-- they removed all existing wayspots and I believe also geoblcoked them in all games. (Insert NBA handwave.)

I believe @HankWolfman-PGO has the correct answer, which is that Niantic needs to update its OSM data, but they rarely update it.

    Hello

all solid advice above. Do look at the location on OSM and check tags. If it hasn’t been changed see if you can find someone who does contribute to OSM ( and therefore knows what they are doing) and see if they can make the change.

It’s odd that they remain active in ingress.

You could try contacting in game support in Pokémon Go about the wayspots. You could try posting in the invalid wayspot appeals with evidence - geotagged photos, any articles about the new use to see if the block on appearance in Pokémon Go can be lifted.

it won’t be quick but do give it a try.

    Good Luck

It is marked as a portal, but is it an Ingress portal?

Or is it a portal meaning a wayspot in the Wayfarer application?

Suppose three Ingress portals are displayed but no PokeStops from Pokémon GO are shown. In that case, it is assumed that the business has requested the removal of only PokeStops due to complaints, etc., and Niantic has agreed to do so.

Or, if there is no portal on Ingress, but they appear on the Wayfarer application, there may be another problem, but we will not know the reason until we contact the Game Apps team for all of these.

The issue of Pokémon not showing up could also be due to the geoblock on OSM, but in the case of the first reason, it is possible that a separate block was added along with the removal of the Pokestop.
