Here's my best argument for why "Not everything listed in the categories is eligible." Under Education I see three things which are explicitly prohibited:
High School
Middle School
Preschool
There's lots of other stuff in here that's rarely-to-never eligible. I picked the Transportation category at random. Here are some things that are basically coal:
Air Traffic Control Tower
Bicycle Lane
Car Charging Station
Parking Lot
Road
Scooter Charging Station
Sidewalk
Taxi Stand
Train Tracks
Truck
Under Building I see these things which are rarely eligible, and some which are explicitly prohibited:
Apartment/Condo
Auto Garage
Barn
Barracks
Big-Box
Business Campus
Child Care Facility
Data Center
Detached House
Funeral Home
Igloo
Row House
Shed
Silo
Storage Building
Tent
Wastewater Plant
And yes, some things that fall into one of these categories could occasionally be eligible. The very first Target, maybe, or a barn that has been turned into an event space, but they are eligible in spite of being big-box or barns, because they are qualifying as a historic building or an event space.
I’ve not watched this video, but it strikes me there seems to be agreement that there is one totally wrong point (categorisation ) and one that is not very helpful ( supplementary photo).
A photo taken as described with the POI not in it, is not going to lead necessarily to an instant reject, if not visible on streetview it may end up being if there are not enough clues.
For the factually wrong one, yes that is misleading, and perhaps something could be sorted to alert those that watch????
But seriously how many ordinary gamers wanting to wayfind go searching through the list and use it as a guide to what is eligible for consideration ? I bet far more look at wayspots already in the game for inspiration, which is full of potential pitfalls.
I can’t help but think it’s a storm in a teacup, and if it saves even a few frustrations over why a submission has not appeared then it’s a good thing.
He didn't submit the nomination as he'd already had it accepted. To be fair he doesn't say everything in this list is acceptable he just uses it as an example of things that 'can' be acceptable.
So now that this content creator has expressed to do more Wayfarer content, can we collate some infographics, tips & tricks, fallacy busting, etc. so the content will at least be better than the first?
It might be possible for a correction to pop up in the follow-ups + spread quality info over his audience.
Just a specific quibble here: there is nothing about a nude beach (generally) that would make it ineligible. You may have to be mindful when you take your photos, but it would likely be acceptable as a place to exercise and be social, and it would not meet any rejection criteria that I'm aware of (again, in general). That said, I don't believe I've ever come across such a nomination in Wayfarer.
This is simply false. Nude beaches (again, in general) permit people of all ages. There is nothing "adult-oriented" about them. Though I do imagine many reviewers would incorrectly deny them on those grounds.
Not to derail the conversation here, but does it? OSM typically uses a key-value tagging scheme and British English, there are quite a number of inconsistencies between how OSM clasifies things and the category list in Wayfarer.
The category list includes the term "elementary school" for example, but OSM doesn't make that level distinction in the same way, as it uses isced:level instead.
the categories are listed by niantic itself because are objects that can be or already inside their map, if a particular object goes in or not IN A PARTICULAR GAME is because another reason, there is actually dentist offices, vending machines and even nude beachs in the map examples for beach are the map of the place of the big name sign in the street, the dentist office are murals in the side of the place, the vending machines just check japan sponsors...
ingress is just a pogo tool, nobody cares about that game at this point, can be closed today and nothing will happen, dont be a rubbish comedian we have plenty in here
Hi, looks like you're pretty new here. Those of us who have been around certainly disagree with each other on many points. But we try to be respectful and cordial to each other. No one here gets paid to do this work. No one here is being paid to share their wisdom and experience. Yet, many spend a lot of time educating others on how the system works.
@PkmnTrainerJ-ING is not wrong when he said that the list was not written by Niantic. I don't know for a certainty where the list comes from. But I do know that it includes MANY categories that are not eligible locations. The four shown here are listed as categories we can select when submitting and reviewing, yet they are also explicitly listed as locations that are ineligible.
Since we know all schools that serve children under 18 are ineligible, yet they show up on the category list, then the category list CANNOT be used as examples of what is eligible. It's simple deductive logic. And we are not talking about any particular game here. This is from the overall Wayfarer criteria, outside of any game.
We try not to get into conversations about individual games more than necessary. Yes, we all know that PGO has a much larger userbase. But that doesn't mean Ingress is a dead game that no one cares about. Niantic still holds events for Ingress and is making changes to how the game works - they recently introduced a new faction to the game (I believe it's kinda like Team Rocket in PGO).
The other danger in relying on a list is that people can begin to think ONLY the things found on the list are eligible. That's not true and limits POI that are unique to an area. Two of the POI that I'm seeing crop up all over my area are fire pits and bocce courts. The best category I use for those is Outdoor Recreation. These are just as eligible as any gazebo but since they are not explicitly listed, many reviewers don't understand that they are. Wayfarer is about reading what has been written to explain why the submitted thing would make a good Wayspot. But too many reviewers look for it to be on a small predetermined list and deny anything that requires them to do a real evaluation and think about how it meets the criteria. Reviewing should be ALL about thinking. For far too many, it is about clicking stars as quickly as possible to "earn upgrades."
I didn’t realise I was trying to be funny? So I guess that does make me a rubbish comedian?
As mentioned, we try to keep PGO vs ING chat out of things as we are all Wayfarers here, but Ingress is more than a tool for Pokémon GO. Maybe give it a try at some point. If it’s not your thing, that’s fine. I’ve tried NBA All World recently and it’s not my thing.
There is plenty of schools in the game what are you talking about, the categories arent for solely the object, are for mark where does this object belong to...example a court outside a school...the category of that object isnt only ''basketball court'' are several...
nude beachs, vendors machines, dentist offices are already in the game and can go in depending of what object you submit from those...if a vendom machine which looks like a big harry potter statue guess what? is going to get in but that object still being a vendor machine hence that category exist
the new here is another person, dont be rubbish comedian we have plenty here

If there isn't anyone else playing, after capturing and linking the portals he has to wait a week to start over again.
oh, no. ive submitted so many of one of those three. (not saying which)
True. That’s what I did early on. Eventually if you link a bit outside of your local area, the other faction will take notice I’ve found.
At least you’ve given folks easy rejections?
It is.

Wayfarer related?
Of course. However the guidelines say
Just wanted to post a reminder that on the Wayfarer Community we should only be posting Wayfarer specific content, questions, suggestions, etc.
as it’s not a new post, does etc. count comments? If so, I (and others) have a lot to delete!
I'm telling Tintino!
I’ll mention it at the next Ambassadors call I sneak in to. Don’t worry.

That sounds sensible

The "What is it" list came from OSM, Open Street Map. OSM tries to map everything that exists. Niantic does not.
A nude beach would fall under Adult-themed or -oriented.

Yeah, I'd agree that a nudity beach falls under adult orientated
I just make them bigger after that
@Gazzas89-PGO I wouldn't argue that a nude beach is adult-themed. There are all-ages nude beaches.
pretty much another rubbish comedian

I only have ingress because of pogo but there is an active community were I live. I wouldn't say nobody cares about it.

nude beachs already in, check ingress intel map in europe
vendom machines aka japan and korean sponsors
murals next to a dentist office already in or if the dentist has a big tooth outside which looks cool
again, those categories are there because already in and can be in, the factors which will decide if go in or not are another thing
dont be rubbish comedians, we have plenty already
another win for me, gg close thread
