Why was this appeal rejected?

After being rejected as a seasonal or temporary display I appealed one of my rejected submissions. This appeal was rejected because the appeal team decided it is a generic route. The route is a religous oriented route that passes all known and lesser known places of religion in the area surrounding my city. How is this route generic? Maybe I fail to see the point because English is not my primary language. I hope someone can shed some light on this for me.

Supporting info in the submission:

The walk of wisdom is a 136km long pilgrimage around the city of Nijmegen. The creators are making a pilgrimroute in every country of the world, starting in The Netherlands. More info on this route: https://walkofwisdom.org/pelgrimsroute/de-walk-of-wisdom-pelgrimsroute-rondom-nijmegen/

This marker is in the middle of a forest, but it is visible on a nearby photosphere

So this could be the Nia contractors working off old information. We used to have the rule that a trail marker needed to have the name of the trail visible. A comment on the forum from a Nia employee clarified for us about 2 years ago that named trail markers are the best candidates but having the name is not a requirement.

However, it is difficult to tell that this symbol truly does mark a real trail. From the reviewer's perspective, how can they tell that this symbol wasn't installed by you? You did the right thing by linking to a website, but I don't have a lot of confidence that the Nia contractors will do a big investigation into figuring out if this is an official trail marker when they have to translate the website into English and then read it to understand how this Walk of Wisdom works.

We would like for them to do that, but the results have been unreliable.

I would also say that your title is generic. If this is one marker along the "pilgrim's route" (my best guess at the English translation of your title), how would anyone tell this marker from another one along the same route? Trail markers often have distance measures in the name and image so you know you have found the right one.

Maybe the best you can do is use the GPS location data in the title? To be honest, this one is going to be very difficult to get approved.

  • If I would submit more trail markers I agree the title can be improved a lot. Since I started submitting things in my area I've picked up some better habits for naming and the description, but this can always be edited later. The website I linked to should easily verify the cultural value of this hiking route AND give some extra verification to its location. I always open links in supporting info and zoom in on interactive maps to verify locations of stuff when I'm reviewing myself.

Most of the markers for this route are stickers attached to streetlights etc and only a few of them are actual metal signs that are screwed/rivited in place so I thought this would be an acceptable submission

    Hello @Fiefekkepief-PGO

i think the inclusion of your link should have made it clear that this was the symbol of the trail and it shows the route, which with a photosphere makes location good

At this point I think it’s worth focussing on resubmitting, and to bear in mind the rejection reasons.

    I agree about title

Perhaps something along lines of This marker is at the point on the trail where…… This makes it specific to this point and is the reason it is there.

Maybe in supplementary point out it is permanently secured to the post.

    But it should be ok

  • I'd like to point out that another wayspot for one of these trail markers exists (https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=51.782999,5.809997&z=17&pll=51.782999,5.809997).

This wayspot was also rejected by the community, for inaccurate location, and appealed. The appeal team accepted the wayspot. Now it makes even less sense why the same team that accepted it at a different location rejected mine...

Each submission is slightly different and it is highly likely that those that looked at the appeal are also different people. It is all about opinions and you would hope for a high degree of consistency but there will be differences.

i think it’s a good POI and worth a fresh submission and hopefully the community will vote it in.
