Global Reviewer Challenge - Indonesia

Hello Explorers,
We’re very excited to announce our Global Reviewer Challenge taking place in… drum roll….. Indonesia! You may have noticed we mentioned “global” and you probably guessed it. That means that this challenge will be open to ALL Explorers around the world, uniting to review Wayspot nominations and support the Indonesia community. We looked all around the globe at different countries and regions to identify where we had the lowest amount of Wayspots and Indonesia happened to be one of those places.
Since the AMA you all have been giving feedback about how to improve your challenge experience and while we couldn’t take on all suggestions for this challenge, we did make 2 changes that we think you’ll like.
The first change we’ve made for this challenge is to allow all Explorers to change their Bonus Location to participate in the challenge. Not only did we make this change but we took it a bit farther by allowing all Explorers to change their Bonus Location every 72 hours after the first time they change their Bonus Location starting today. This will allow you to jump from city to city during the challenge if you wish to do so. Bonus Location resets will begin today between NOW and 12:30pm PST
Second and final change is that we’ve curated a list of the cities in Indonesia that have the lowest number of decided nominations so that you can choose to support that area specifically and ensure you get the most nominations from Indonesia during the challenge. Please check below for the list of locations.
We’re happy to support our Indonesian Explorer community and can’t wait to see the impact we make when we join together with these new changes! See below for more details about the challenge:

Eligibility for Rewards:
- You are eligible to participate in the challenge if (i) you are an eligible Wayfarer reviewer (meaning you are at least Level 37 Trainer in Pokémon GO or Level 10 Agent in Ingress and have passed the quiz); (ii)the target Wayspot acceptance goal has been met; and (iii) you review at least one nomination in Indonesia that also gets approved during the Challenge Review Time (so start from day 1 of the Challenge!).
- We will confirm whether the Wayspot Approval Goal has been met and if so, which Tier. The rewards distributed will be based on the Wayspot acceptance goal status (Tier 1 or Tier 2) at the end of the campaign. Only one set of rewards will be distributed, such that:
- If at least Tier 1 is reached and you have reviewed a Wayspot that was accepted during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 1 rewards.
- If Tier 2 is reached, and you have reviewed a Wayspot that was accepted during the Challenge, you will receive one set of Tier 2 rewards.
- Rewards will be distributed in the games, by email in the form of a code, and/or your Wayfarer account directly in which you are an eligible Wayfarer reviewer. For example, if you are a Trainer level 37 and an Agent level 10, you will only receive Pokémon GO rewards. If you are eligible in both games, you will receive the rewards in both by Mar 15, 2023.
- Given (1) and (2) above, rewards will be distributed between Mar 1, 2023 and Mar 15, 2023.
If you are eligible to participate but have not used Wayfarer before, prepare in advance by creating an account linked to your Pokémon GO or Ingress profiles. After you have signed in, check out the Criteria page and take a quick quiz to learn the basics of Niantic Wayfarer, such as reviewing and voting on nominated Wayspots.
We are very excited to be hosting this challenge for our Indonesian community. If you have any questions, please ask them in the Indonesia Challenge categories coming soon!

Woo, awesome! A question about the bonus location change, you mentioned that you'll be able to change it every 72 hours from today on. Is this only for the Challenge or will this be active in general from now on?
Can you please clarify the eligibility for rewards for Ingress agents? The first bullet point in the eligibility section makes it sound like level 8 agents are eligible for rewards. However, the second to last bullet makes it sound like they are not. Thanks!
(iii) you review at least one nomination in Indonesia that also gets approved during the Challenge Review Time (so start from day 1 of the Challenge!)
This feels like it would incentivize reviewers to just vote to approve every nomination they get from Indonesia to raise the chance that something they review there gets approved in time. Perhaps this requirement should be changed to getting an agreement on one Indonesian nomination?
This will be useful for people to see where needs more reviewers
Great although in the future can you consider having three tier rewards.
1 - Individually Reach y agreements to receive rewards.
2 - Individually Reach 2y agreements to receive rewards.
3 - Collectively reach x agreements to receive rewards.
Only for the challenge 😉 so to it'll be 72 hours after your first reset so if you reset it today at 12:00pm PST, your reset will hit Saturday at 12:00pm PST.
On reflection, I got ahead of myself.
I've done five in Indonesia and it wasn't a pleasant experience.
Great rewards.
@NianticTintino-ING thank your for the Challenge. Hopefully this time there wont be such a kerfuffle with the rewards and @NianticCasey-ING would still be circling around handing out rewards or not if they would be within our circles.
@The26thDoctor-PGO as far as i can see the Indonesian contributions were spot on (for what they are) and are by far better contributions than the Crepes i see daily from our german contributors.
Seems promising on the surface! I've just changed my bonus location. Fingers crossed everything will go smoothly. Good luck everyone!
The language barrier and cultural difference rather than quality.
Although I still haven't worked out what 'Wait Triangle' is that came up.
Sorry about that. It should now real level 10 for Ingress. Great catch!
Thanks for your suggestion. We'll leave it as is for now but will consider it for the next challenge.
Second suggestion to use agreements... I'll add it to the notes for next time :)
Unless you want to lower the Ingress level like you did for Pokémon GO?
Keep me posted how it goes :) best of luck!
I'll consult their CM 😉
Does one have to do anything specific in order to participate in this challenge? Beyond changing their bonus location to Indonesia and reviewing accordingly?
Asking because I've never done one of these Wayfarer Review events and I don't want to mess it up LOL
I would most definitely say don't initially choose the island of Buru which after scrolling around to see how it looks, using the official Wayfarer app and not an app that has little squares on it and I don't know nuffink about and neither do Niantic.
You may only get a few reviews and then not a lot more due to the islands sparseness :)
Maybe time for the two of you to play a game again?
Can you please add Tier 3 goal with total of 10000 accepted nominations or higher? The number can be easily reached by local reviewers alone.
And maybe add Oranguru as special spawn from regular or daily incense for limited time, maybe also introduce its shiny for the first time? Not sure the similiar rewards for Ingress though.
Could you fix the jumping to streetview to improve the reviewing experience?
While setting the Bonus location, I get a warning:
"WARNING! Once set, your bonus location cannot be changed for one year!"
Is this okay?
Could you please tell me how long I can reset my bonus location every 3 days? Or do I need to change the bonus location to my country during the event?
I would like to participate in the event until the last day, but I am worried that I will be stuck in Indonesia for a year without being able to change my bonus location back to my country.
@NianticTintino-ING
Ingress has a task-based system coming up on March 18th, so perhaps something related to that for a Tier 3 goal, that happens after the initial one? Earn a Wayfarer Pin related badge for doing the tasks
Hmm... "You may change Bonus Location on: 2/15/24, 9:14 PM"
I don't want to stay here for a year...
This is likely a visual bug. Anyway, I am not worried, since Niantic has been very good about resetting anyone's review locations after an event or if a mistake was made.
People are noticing that they only get maybe 3-4 Indonesian reviews in 50. This is because bonus location is the lowest priority in our personal review queues. Could you consider altering this priority for future events? Maybe make bonus the highest priority just for the event?
Apparently the bug which shows wayspot pictures, badges etc in Ingress in low quality is present in the lightship database as well.
Wayspot nominations i get have lower resolution pictures than usual and are blurry if enlarged. Text on signs is only partially redable because of all the blurry pixels.
I think someone might have triggered a wrong switch somewhere
edit: bug shows on own nominations too, and im sure the pictures ive submitted had a higher resolution before
edit 2: apparenty this is resolved now? hope it stays "normal" now
I've only seen 1 nomination from Indonesia. Luckily it was something I could approve.
I really hate that the rewards are handed out if "you have reviewed a Wayspot that was accepted during the Challenge" giving incentive to just accept everything and hope enough others do. Reviewing these correctly is hard work for those not from the region.
