Accepted wayspots showing in PoGo, but not Ingress

I'm just curious, is there any way to find out why a wayspot doesn't appear in Ingress (and IITC)?

Same question for wayspots that have been accepted but don't show in either game (even though there's nothing else blocking it)?

If it definitely isn't too do with spacing rules in either game I don't believe there is a way to know for sure.

    Hello and welcome @DavidK071-PGO

The answer lies in the rules that Niantic do not talk about.

All approved Wayspots are in the Lightship database. I believe these should show up if you are at the location and are in the process of nominating.

Each game has its own set of proximity rules.

For ingress this is a 20m radius around the pin position. So if they are less than 20m apart the newest won’t be selected for ingress. It is the in game Ingress portals that create the Intel map on which IITC overlays the grid. So if not in Ingress it won’t show on IITC

For Pokémon Go the rules revolve around the use of some mapping software commonly referred to as S2 cells it  breaks down the surface into smaller and smaller cells - each size is referred to as level and a number.

Google S2 cells and Pokémon Go - Pokémongohub has a very good explanation.

The key is that in PoGo it only accepts 1 wayspot in each Level 17 cell, so if there is already a pokestop or gym in the game from that cell yours will not be selected.

As the only determine factor is the cell line it is feasible for pokestops to legitimately be only a few metres apart. No room for Cliff!

These are too close for Ingress so the pokestop does not appear on IITC.

If a wayspot doesn’t show up in either game then it doesnt meet both rules.

    Hope this helps.

Meanwhile we will all ignore the horrible clipping in the screenshot.

    A+ Niantic.
