unable to log into Android app with Google

Am able to get into & use wayfarer on a web browser (where I successfully did the enrollment quiz) but after downloading the app the error it gives is simply "Failed to log in, try again."
Device is a android 11 OxygenOS phone,
have also tried after uninstalling and reinstalling,
the Google account I'm trying to log into definitely is the one attached to this account and any other niantic apps besides Pokémon go.

The app is in beta release currently and not intended for regular Wayfarer users at the current time. That's why you can't login to it currently - you're not meant to. It will hopefully be rolled out to everyone later on in the year. In the meantime you're meant to use the Wayfarer website to review and check the status of your nominations.
