You have to control the spams. Closing threads won't stop the spam. If you need forum engagement from the users then do something better.

Yeah there's well over 3,000 new accounts that just joined the forum... THREE THOUSAND. What in the hell?
There definitely should be a cooldown intro period/sending first comment/post into moderation.
This came up before with previous bouts of rampant bullying and trolling... Same solution for this voting spam.
They shouldn't be able to vote for X amount of hours either of creating a new account.
The uproar over this Wayfarer Challenge will leave a lot of trash in that country in a few months.
And they do not know the POI criteria.
Nor, by the looks of it, do they seem to be willing to learn.
But now such Wayfinders can also pass the unlimited repeatable test with the help of YouTube instructional videos and the abuser community.
It then continues to vote 5 stars through multi-accounting and community collusion.
And all current Wayfinders are powerless in the face of that abusive behavior, and your rates could plummet. (This precedent has already appeared in Japan, where many Wayfinders are disappointed and stop reviewing. I rarely review them now.)
But unfortunately, the manager of the Wayfarer team is not concerned about any of this spamming or multi-account behavior.
Of course, he has no ability to spot players suspected of cheating.
He is inviting a player who has walked less than 200 kilometers and hacked more than 2,800 new Ingres portals to earn the mission's gold medal as an ambassador. (This is a difficult profile to achieve in regular Ingress play.)
That's assuming them with their multiaccounts would bother to review..., while this attitude of the voter represents the majority of the voters:
It’s not an attitude, it’s reality: POI nominations in big cities in Italy and Spain take years to go in voting, so it’s clear that we Italian and Spanish people don’t want to spend time reviewing and are counting on those who do (that is to say, you all).
I don’t know the reason: it may be due to valid POIs getting rejected over people’s own tastes, incorrect rejection reasons showing up, or similar issues with Wayfarer, but that’s that.
They take years because people don't review.
If everyone who has voted for Italy or Spain did 5 review a day you wouldn't have to wait years.
We’re basically saying the same thing: “if they would…”, but we don’t, so it doesn’t happen.
What would it take to get you to do 5 reviews a day, if you don't already?
What is worth 5 minutes of your time?
This is the situation WITH EVERY CHALLENGE. It's not a novel concept that there are players in the challenge country who just don't want to bother with Wayfarer. Places like Spain and Italy (and maybe Taiwan?) have the added burden of being places people like to travel. It's entirely possible that tourists add to the backlog by submitting without reviewing.
Personally, I voted for Italy because I want to review in a place that is so full of history and gorgeous architecture. I am hoping to review in Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. Will I get to review a building or statue created by Michelangelo or da Vinci? I'm truly giddy at the thought even though I know it is highly likely that at this point anything by one of them would be a duplicate.
Would I prefer the challenge to be in my own city to help clear our backlog? Of course. But this is how challenges work and in the meantime we have the option to change our bonus location more frequently now so that I can assist (or convince others to assist me) with backlogs in places that will probably never be eligible for a challenge.
whoops, this additional comment was posted in error...
Yeah, yesterday alone almost 4,000 new members joined... and a total of almost 14,000 have voted on the poll.
I guarantee most of those accounts are not Wayfarer eligible levels (never mind if they are mutli-accounts or not).
I don't expect much more turnout than the Indonesia challenge, and if Niantic ignores this/us and bases the goals on voting participation we're not gonna get jack-diddly-squat from the challenge rewards.
Whyyyy hasn't level restrictions been implemented on the forum? There's 0 reason for a level 1 (or other low level) to be able to use this forum that is specifically for wayfarer... As well as there needs to be some moderation or restrictions on brand new accounts at least for the purpose of spamming.
Literally everything that doesn’t require 9 other people’s approval to be meaningful, being those other people often led by personal preferences rather than Niantic’s rules. I know several serious reviewers who quit because of idiots like these.
If the challenge ends up in your country's favor, do take time to participate since you've voted. And I will hope the challenge would re-motivate the Wayfarers of the countries too. Your comments alone are demotivating the regulars to participate. It's in our best interest to mitigate problems, for this challenge at least.
Assuming you haven't seen the last challenge's turnout, less and less are joining. If y'all would've led with helping us choose with details and waiting times from your areas, more would help you gladly even without the challenge.
I don't understand the gatekeeping.
1) We want to reduce backlogs.
2) In order to reduce backlogs, we need more people to review.
3) We need more people to be educated on how to review properly.
All of that adds up to needing to ADD people to these forums so that they know what they are doing when it comes time for them to participate in Wayfarer. No program ever became better by withholding information from newcomers.
To get more people to review, maybe rewards should be something better than 1 upgrade every 100 agreements. Why would someone that doesn't need any new portal review?
I don't disagree with this. There is no incentive for people to review if they don't need new portals/pokestops.
I'm curious what you would suggest as a good incentive. If you were in charge of completely revamping the reward system, what would you do? Think about rewards for regular reviewing and increased rewards for participating in review challenges.
In the meantime, my main point was that new people should be welcomed to this forum before they are eligible to participate in WF so that they can learn how to do it correctly and the benefit it brings to the community (both local and world) and even to get to know the big personalities who participate in this forum and have so much experience to share with them.
Sure, there are idiots everywhere.
Some are spamming Italia..España... One is typing a reply to you right now....
Do you not have any interest in helping the community whether that's Go, Ingress or whichever game you enjoy by doing a few reviews?
I'm in no way attempting to convince you merely interested in if you want to add or just take from Wayfarer, Go etc.
These people aren’t even able to review. Low level, non-wayfarer eligible accounts voting. And I also guarantee they aren’t going to stick around to “learn” something about wayfarer. It’s all just. SPAIN SPAIN SPAIN SPAIN SPAIN SPAIN ITALY ITALY ITALY ITALY ITALY ITALY ITALY ITALY
theyre just here because people told them if they vote on this page (and how to log in) they’ll get poke stops popping up on the map
Is getting POI not the entire point of Wayfarer? Why should people who will benefit from that not be interested and excited about it? We do this to *benefit the community* so it makes no sense to me that we want *the community* to not be involved.
That thread is just getting even worse.
And not to mention people are accusing their opponents for using bots. Like, why would them if they're not gonna reviewing in the challenge? And people will rejecting their opponents' nominations sounds like the worst scenario.
@NianticLC @NianticOtoStar @NianThib @NianticAaron your actions, please. This is urgent (kinda) situation.
That the wise reviewers are almost gone is evident by the fact that the approximately 13,000 accounts that were in the Russia Wayfarer Challenge have been reduced to approximately 4,300 accounts in Indonesia.
This is in spite of the relaxed access levels and unlimited trial-ready testing that has been implemented over the past year and a half.
And now comes the multitude of pianists with multiple accounts.
One side taps all 5 stars for their country's nominations, and the other side retaliates by tapping all 1 stars for the other country's nominations.
Doing so does not interfere with their gameplay.
Because the Wayfarer team has no authority to ban gameplay.
Let's be sarcastic.
Excellent work.
Tintino, you did it.
Wayfarer is now completely destroyed.
Wait, what's happened with that voting?
They pulled the thread.
Hi @patsufredo-PGO,
Thank you and all others for this feedback. I'll be sure to take this back to our team for consideration and update you all of there are any changes to moderation.
Closing the post didn't turn off voting so I pulled the poll. I posted a new one including the results HERE.
Most of the ones I personally know are like "Why would I ever work for free for Wayfarer?". Many of them even reached level 50 in 2021, they can have very competitive teams for PvP and raids, yet they don't know anything about wayfarer, criteria and pokestop. They just don't care, they're not up to improve map, as long as their neighbours already have some pokestop (maybe 20-30% of their full potential).
As for the poll, why should level <37 be allowed to vote if their only purpose was just to add a vote? How many of these new members do you think will participate this forum, other challenges and normal reviews? Probably more than 95% who voted don't have any competence about wayfarer. Many people created new accounts (regardless of what they voted for) with the sole purpose of increasing numbers. Under my point of view, to be able to vote here, accounts should have met all of these criteria:
Unfortunately none of these happened. Basically everyone could create thousands of new accounts with the sole purpose of increasing numbers.
As for challenges, I honestly think one per month should take place, with better rewards.
This is what happens when poll is opened to everyone without any restriction. Some people created several new accounts just to vote, regardless of their preferences.
Can we please stop making accusations without concrete proof. Only the wayfarer team can access any data around this.
if you have evidence of multi accounting then you need to go through the normal game channels to report it.
This is the attitude of most players I know as well. Yet I do this work despite knowing that. I know that I'm doing work that would go much faster if more people cared. That's the whole reason we have to do challenges to begin with - there's a backlog in places. None of that changes if those people suddenly know about the challenge or if they are completely ignorant of it as they have been in the past.
I don't understand the rationale of wanting to help the community but then also wanting to exclude that same community from this forum.
