A cluster of fake nominations, nothing should have been able to get through:
"my feet": 50.951537529718465, 4.721215008308168 ...
"de boom van Tom": 50.95129871036312, 4.721542585192454 - somebody's home with his name
"grasplein Sint-Antoniuswijk": 50.951107846024705, 4.721447399179503 - picture of a trail marker, but no way this is located on a grassy square at someone's home.
A generic pub is not eligible, especially not if there are 3 or 4 exactly like it in a 5 minute walk. It's just another example of non-eligible things going through, like supermarkets, vending machines, garbage cans, ...
Putting the word generic in front of something doesn't make in ineligible. A generic pub can still be a great place to be social. Even a sandwich bar can be a great place to be social or to explore.
It's because people reject those things, that all you see during review is trail markers. You want more variety? Accept more variety!
Nomination is a little odd because the poi is currently placed on a roundabout so not safety for pedestrian but the Wayspot itself seem to be located on private property.
I missed that part sorry, the one I mentionned here is definitely not the only one in town and has no unique features or activities.
@TWVer-ING I'm all for variety, but there are still guidelines. Waypoint should be something unique and memorable. A simple bar that has 3 other similar ones 5 minutes away (no exageration) is nothing unique - it's a generic business. The reason 'it's a place to socialize" is why people have been submitting benches, empty squares, supermarkets, ... as well. Comparing it to a church makes no sense and you should know that: there is maximum 1 church per town, while you can have a dozens of similar bars. Trail Markers have been the topic of dozens (hundreds?) of posts already and definitely not a discussion to start here again.
But let's stop derailing that 1 specific nomination, there is indeed plenty of ineligible submissions being accepted. But as long as new submissions are being allowed, we might get 1 removed while 20 new ones are accepted (and that removed one will show up again 2 days later anyway).
Haha that cracked me up. You’ve obviously never been to the “Bible Belt” in the USA. There can be one church every street corner! Actually, multiple churches! Every street.
Which guidelines? The official ones by Niantic? Or the ones you and your friends made up?
Waypoint should be something unique and memorable.
Where does it say that? What I do find is:
Should I consider proximity to nearby Wayspots or Wayspot density when analyzing a nomination?
No. As long as the nomination is not a duplicate of an existing Wayspot, it is eligible to become a Wayspot. Each Niantic app has its own proximity rules to determine whether it will be included in the app.
The Wayfarer team and ambassadors would do better to clean up this kind of trash and clean up the field than to eliminate the backlog of trash in developed countries where good POIs have been depleted.
Here you see what i mean by a clear nomination that shouldn't have gotten through and that person says they are trailmarkers makes my blood rise tbh you can discuss on a lot of things but every freaking lantern pole has a number 🤦
I wouldn't even dare to nominate something like that with false information
"Silvester with child": 51.033994420407346, 4.474524223929231 - Seriously? Somebody put a statue of the Looney Tunes character and some candles at his window...
Three for one cluster here:
"AD Delhaize Tremelo": 50.99485519445267, 4.705788103586806 - supermarket for one of the largest chains in the country
"Hoorcentrum Tremelo": 50.990022828466145, 4.705927161177336 - a shop for hearing aids
"Drankenhandel Basile & Peggy": 50.995182083484615, 4.706463603566244 - Google Maps even calls it a "beer store"
I know Niantic or The Ambassadors can't "comment on an ongoing investigation", but it would be nice to know what is being done long term here. I said it before, but what's the point of a handful of honest players report this type of Wayfarer abuse, when new submissions keep going through? Honestly, it's time Niantic took decisive action on those accounts and reviewers. Not just lowering their Wayfarer score, not just a warning, just flat out ban (start with Wayfarer, continue with the games used to submit the abusive Wayspots). It's clear these aren't cases of not knowing the guidelines, but rather abusing the system 100%.
You might have missed that 2 Dutch people reported in the forum that they've got banned
And there will be more, but just as you said, for this operation (and sometimes user privacy), there still won't be as much public announcements for now. Maybe they will give a summary at a later stage when they feel confident that they got a good accomplishment against the abusers.

How about a generic church? Or a generic mural?

You didn't even took to the time to read what i said some pubs are the only ones in an entire town so yeah not on every corner 🤦

it's a generic business
No it is not. A generic business is a business that doesn't meet eligibility criteria, like a night shop, a garage, a supermarket, ...
it's a place to socialize
That is something that actually is in the guidelines.
But let's stop derailing
Great idea! Let's not bring up good wayspots in a thread about abusively accepted nominations.
The Wayfarer team and ambassadors would do better to clean up this kind of trash and clean up the field than to eliminate the backlog of trash in developed countries where good POIs have been depleted.
