I havent been selected. I have made several missions in Ingress. I wonder if you will be able to select waypoints that do not currently appear in pokemon to be on your route, like the field trip locations are available in Ingress mission creator. There are a lot of cool things in the lightship database that do not currently appear in pokemon. There are also a lot of cool things that never got submitted because they were in an already occupied cell. This could be a good way to bring fresh locations into the game.
That would be a great idea to implement but could lead to even more confusion and bewilderment from the majority of Go players who don't think about Ingress?
Got the option & the creation is a lot different from making Ingress missions.
You actually have to walk the route rather than just pick wayspots to visit on a map. So I'll have to create some routes tommorow as I found this option a bit late tonight
I made a route tonight (!!!) and it’s got so much potential! There are two things I wished I could do though, so I thought I would pass it along.
1) I wish we could make routes longer than 1 km. We do a four mile grind loop in our play area that everyone always asks us to map out for them. I was hoping we could make it with this feature. Maybe in the future?
2) I wish the ability to tie specific pokestops to the route was an option. It would be great to be able to specifically flag for people which pokestop is the POI that is part of the route. They can get that walking by and playing of course, but I was hoping to make super specific routes (like “Sculptures created by Women Artists” specific).
At any rate, this feature is great and I am so glad it’s finally here!
Unfortunately I have to skip this feature. This would be better for certain locations such as Sudirman-Thamrin area in Jakarta or Kuta in Bali, but not at extremely rural areas especially with less or none Wayspots.
Would be better if Pikmin Bloom players get this feature too.
So I made my first route submission. While it's quite easy to do, I'm a bit disappointed these aren't more like missions in Ingress. Only 2 PoI are featured and you can't use your own image for the badge. It'll be interesting to see how it affects gameplay and how user-reviewed submissions will go. I guess with Niantic reviewing the current ones, the appeals backlog will only get longer...
Is there a way we can provide feedback on what we liked, and what we feel could use improvement? Or would you like us to just post that sort of thing here?
I had fun creating my first routes this morning! I thought we’re supposed to be able to add checkpoints and activities along the route, but well, it’s still under development. I hope we get to add things to our routes later to make them more interesting. And also, it would be nice to have an edit button. I messed up and submitted a dupe but don’t know how to delete it.
Btw, how far are we allowed to discuss it here? It said in the email not to share any information on any social media platforms. Please feel free to delete my post if I’ve shared too much.
It will not be known until the route is actually approved by Niantic for review and goes live, but in Ingress, after it goes live, it will be rated with a thumbs up or thumbs down by players who have played it.
Rather, like Ingress, more routes that are clearly rated and highly rated will improve the quality of Pokémon GO gameplay and help Niantic mission fulfillment.
Using own images for Ingress missions was the thing that makes them interesting for me.
In Ingress, i enjoyed doing banners (lots of missions that belong together and form a large picture in your profile if done in the correct order, for those that are unfamiliar with ingress missions).
I think the 1km limit might just be some default text in the tutorial. I had a route which I thought was about 1km and I knew it would be tight. It came in at 1.26km but it seemed to accept the route without any problems (subject to review). Once you have submitted a route you can view it in the list. It shows the recorded distance and also the time it took to walk the route.
The {0} and {1} are not the actual numbers, they are just placeholders that the Devs forgot to replace with the actual values (working in the IT sector, it does really not get into my head how such things are not discovered in software tests...)
Long story short: we don't really know how long Niantic wants our route to be at maximum or minimum.
Just try out to make a long route, somewhen the app will complain that the route is too long. Only Niantic knows when this will be (or we will know, but only after the next app update when the tutorial text gets fixed by them).
They need to make this more like Ingress badges IMO.
People would rather go between known stops than follow a route on the floor.
The homemade nature of badges and banners and their look add character to a profile and the reason people do them in Ingress.
If it was just a number added to a medal like +1 routes followed, then everyone will make the shortest most terrible routes so every can level the stat quicker. Short routes will be shared in chats and longer routes will be ignored. People do the really long banner missions in Ingress for the pretty banner badges.
Well so much for not discussing this. The first tweet I saw this morning had screenshots of the process. From conversations on the Wayfarer Discussion Discord, I think a lot of folks just found the ability to create routes in their games, and either never got an email or got it much later. However, the email does say this if you actually read to the end
As with any early-access privilege, please be aware that the Routes feature is still in development. We ask that you refrain from sharing any information related to Routes, including screen captures and recordings; write-ups, opinion pieces, and reviews; “sneak peeks” on any social media platforms, public or private, etc.
Since we aren't supposed to be discussing this, I guess we are helping to develop it by trying it out and letting them see what happens on their end?
Comments
It's a shame a large amount of interesting Wayspots will be hidden from Go players in dense areas.
Start - GR postbox
Midpoint - GR postbox
End - VR postbox... Exciting.

I welcome this feature as long as you don't add routes review!
There is an option to indicate that this route can be walked in reverse!

I was so excited to be able to create routes, but I really have no idea how to create anything meaningful with the 1km length restriction.
Unfortunately I have to skip this feature. This would be better for certain locations such as Sudirman-Thamrin area in Jakarta or Kuta in Bali, but not at extremely rural areas especially with less or none Wayspots.

Would love to be able help test this feature, sounds right up my alley!
Is this feature worldwide? Nobody from our community seems to have got it.

Probably not.
It would only be for Pokestop.
And it looks like you can't set it up on the computer, you have to actually walk through the game to set up the route.
(I'll try that later.)
Also, from what I can see, even if you play, there are no medals that are published, just medals that count up the number of times on your profile.
Also, I don't know if it is possible to set a distance of more than 1km, so it would be completely different from the Ingress mission game.

I wanted to create a route this morning, but the app crashes, after selecting start and end point. 🙁
/edit: After restarting my phone and trying it again a few hours later, it works.
you can't use your own image for the badge.
Huh? That's unexpected...

This calms my excitement about it down very much.

Port that to Pogo.

Just FYI, still not received an email about it despite having the option to create routes in-game.
Yeah, me too. Just received a push notification from PoGo saying that i have got early access and that i should check my inbox for details.
Haven't checked the box for "email me about events, offers and updates", i think this is why i did not get the e-mail.
Even my Mom got the routes button and simply wondered about what this is...
Still some open topics regarding localization in Germany, but so far it was easy and painless to submit the first route I started this morning.
Same here. If I was not supposed to say anything at all on the routes discussion board created by Niantic I apologize.
Haha to Niantic for expecting people to honor the “do not discuss”. How dumb can they be?
Ditto. No email but the option is there if I scroll down on my trainer profile
Having made a route now, it's fairly simple to do.
It's a shame we can only choose an image from the waystop photos involved, hopefully that will change in the future.
I can see people making very short routes for easy stats.....the ingress banner system is a better way to implement this system IMO.
