I made my first route. I was able to fully complete a submission. During the route recording, however, the app crashed every 100-150 meters. After you start the app again, the route recording will be resumed and you can continue. You can choose the colour of the badge for your route but it show always purple at the moment.
I had a question about the announcement itself on here in light of the language in the email we should have received if we got early access to the routes feature. Despite getting the feature, I never got an email to go along with it, so I just want to clarify a bit so I/we know the limits/expectations about what we are supposed to do in regard to the forums and social media.
The announcement on here says "Selected Explorers who participate during the early-access period may be selected to have their experience amplified on our official social media channels once Routes has launched globally. Not only will your contributions directly help your local Pokémon GO community, but we also hope that by highlighting your contributions, we can inspire our community the world over!"
That's great! I guess my question is about the word "amplified," which to me implies a retweet/repost instead of Wayfarer tweeting about our routes that we make - which would imply we would have to make a post on social media for it to be amplified in the first place. The email directly states, however, that we are not supposed to share screenshots or discuss the feature on social media. I really want to post about my experience and the themes/content of the routes I made for my community at home once they begin to be approved, but I definitely don't want to violate anything! Should we be discussing the feature at all on here as well? Some people are saying this shouldn't be discussed at all on here, but the mere existence of a Niantic-created discussion thread about the feature seems a bit confusing if no discussion is the actual intent.
Is there a way we can get some feedback on what is and is not acceptable? Also, my apologies if this is a dumb question!
TLDR: Can I post about my impression of the feature or anything about the routes I make on social media? And if not, should I delete any posts I've made about that on these forums?
Created a second route which vanished in to the ether.
Still says I have only created one route and that same previous route is still under review. Clicking list doesnt show the second route either. So completely disappeared.
Have you waited for a while? Sometimes it takes about 30 minutes to appear on the list. When that happened to me, I thought it disappeared and did the whole procedure over, only to notice later that I have created a duplicate :)
5 seems to be the limit for me as well. Wish I had known - I would have prioritized the routes I was planning to submit instead of the ones I did along the way to the starting point.
The description for one route went like this, it would have been nice to lock some of the places in my description onto the middle of the route. A higher limit on the amount of characters in description text would be nice too. I had to truncate it and made it a bit clunky.
Beginning at the 1128 Holyrood Abbey journey up the Canongate toward the 17th century Tron Kirk as you pass by some of the cities most historic sites including 1691 Canongate Kirk, John Knox 1470 house, 1591 Tollbooth and more in this historic area that was once separated from Edinburgh by the Netherbow Port.
When I view information on my created route, it gives a bunch of old info. For example, it says it was first played in february 2022, and already has 85 lifetime plays, despite still being under review.
My experiences from creating my five routes today:
The creation flow went rather good without app crashes as others have reported. There are still some bugs like broken texts (and the color for the badge always being submitted as purple), but the mechanics seem to be working.
I mapped a 6-mission banner i submitted in Ingress to routes that highlights six artistically decorated power boxes in the area where i live. This use-case was very well covered by the routes feature. I'll wait until tomorrow to submit the sixth missing route.
It's a nice thing to follow a path a player took, but the ability to associate additional wayspots along the way to the route explicitly would be nice. Having that, i would've created one route associating all the six power boxes with it, instead of doing six routes with each of the power boxes as starting point.
Another critical point of following a path is, what happens if you walk along and suddenly stand before a path that's closed due to construction for example.
With the way Ingress missions work, you may have the ability to walk around the closed path, if no waypoint of this mission is only reachable from the closed path. But with the routes, you will not be able to finish it in this case, no chance to walk around.
Minimum is currently 0.1 KM, Maximum is currently 20.000 KM. Found that out while viewing the current route length shortly after starting and before finishing the route.
So nobody should really have to worry about this maximum limit, at least during this early Beta phase. Maybe it gets lowered before a global rollout.
How do you get to try out the route? I created one, one screen says it's pending another says it's approved... But how can I actually go back and do the route? Will there be something on the Pokestop to click? Am I just missing it,or maybe it actually isn't approved yet.
Check the character count in the top right if you made it to the Description field - that tripped me up once with a length restriction because I tend to get wordy.
So I have four routes created, one still under review and the others marked as Published. Before I go out and walk my fifth, I'd love to know if anyone has been able to create more than five: is the limit a daily thing, or maybe linked to approval status - or is five all we get? If we only get to trial a total of five, I'd like to save my last for something a bit more special that I won't be able to get to during the work week.
Also, the upper limit should be 2x more than the current limit.
Ironic answer:
What do you need 40.000 Kilometers for?
Hopefully you're aware that airplanes or ferries normally don't take the exact same route again (i mean in the accuracy of several meters)
Helpful answer:
The {1} in the tutorial does not stand for the number 1, but for the second placeholder in the message. The value with which the placeholder should've been replaced is 20.000, check my prev. Message:
So i think that currently you should not have problems with the upper bound. If you have seen the message about your route being too long earlier than 20.000 KM let me know.
Edit: Made more clear that the first part is meant ironically.

New route feature causes a force close on Go every time I start to record the route...

I had the same. First route crashed the app halfway through recording then every attempt after also crashed the app.
Tried a refresh data which didn't work. Tried clearing cache and then data in Android settings which didn't work.
A reinstall of Go worked.

Not surprised if PokeMiners or pokemongohub.net were the ones to spoil the feature in their blogs or Twitter account.

I did not receive an email, but the feature is available to me.
Yeah it turned up eventually. Took a while though!
Completely dead for me now.
Route creator does nothing after selecting a start and/or end point.
Tried a couple of different locations and uninstall with the same result.
May be that 5 a day/week/month/year/millennia is the submission limit?
5 seems to be the limit for me as well. Wish I had known - I would have prioritized the routes I was planning to submit instead of the ones I did along the way to the starting point.
The Miners had that 5 - limit on their list. I think it is a daily limit?
A couple of nice additions would be to be able to pin Wayspots relevant to the route as you create it.
Choose different pictures for the start, end and pins on the route.
Have controls on the screen as you create the route, pause, pin etc.
Redacted! I felt my post was too spoiler-y to meet the current beta discussion terms. Nothing to see here, move along. 😎
I think Niantic wanted to be more flexible
Maybe, hopefully this is ok to post @NianticTintino-ING ?

Mine crashes everytime I try to start a route.
I had the same and it started working after a reinstall although I can't say for certain that's what fixed it.

It is unfortunate, but it is best to think of the game as having a completely different character than Ingress Mission Ops.
My impression of creating one yesterday is that the minimum walking distance for the route should be 5x.
It is no joke to walk only shorter than the accessible distance of a pokestop (80 meters) when one pokestop is set as the start and goal.
At the very least, you should be able to walk at least one lap around the track.
Also, the upper limit should be 2x more than the current limit.
When we walk for our health, we need to walk for at least 30 minutes and preferably for an hour.
When you think about it, the current upper limit distance is almost impossible to meet.
いくつかのルートを作成しましたが、途中で確認して続行する場所から続行できません。
制限はありますか?
I've created several routes, but halfway through I can't proceed from the CONFIRM AND PROCEED place.
Are there any restrictions?

Welp. Out-of-topic but I've said this too fast. PokeMiners are dying.
It looks like 5 a day.
I can create one again today after hitting the 5 limit yesterday.
