Improve Expreience of Reviewers and Submitters by Feedback

Hello everyone!

When I started reviewing, I always wrote something for "Additional comments on your decision" so the submitters could improve based on my advice. But as it seems, submitters don't even get to see these additional comments.

To improve the wayfarer expreience for both reviwers and submitters there should be more feedback.

  1. For submitters: They should see the comments that the reviewers added (maybe you as a reviewer should be forced to write some words so you have to really think about your decision and that the submitters have more information to learn from). Criteria should be easier to understand (-> e.g. rename "Other Rejection Criteria" to "Does not meet eligibility criteria").
  2. For reviewers: Get actual feedback on your decisions (maybe something like a review-log) so you can improve. Maybe also some clear satements for anyone to see about criteria updates or frequent mistakes (e.g. rejecting trail markers).

Feel free to add your own ideas :)

As a submitter I would like to see how close was my nomination to passing (if it was rejected). I don't need exact numbers of votes or anything of the sort, but just some rough estimate of how well it did. It would help me decide what I prioritize for resubmission and what is likely a lost cause or needs an appeal.

I also don't see Niantic doing either of these. (1) was how it worked before, but it was abandonded, probably due to people sending inappropriate comments. (2) I don't think Niantic wants us to improve how we match our votes with the community. They instead want us to vote more in line with their stated rules and not taking into account how others vote. That's why I think they won't give us a history.

it is a regular plea here for a way to improve the outcome of your nomination so that it becomes a chance to learn and improve.

almost anything would be better than what we have

Unfortunately free text is too open to abusive behaviour, but a set of much better thought phrases that can be triggered by tick boxes would work. Eg Good potential wayspot, but please submit with a much better photo.

I always write something in the comments as it does make me reflect on whether overall I have been fair and that’s good for my practice. I wouldn't force everyone to do it though as it doesn’t always work for everyone.

I would also want some feedback phrases for sucessful ones to be possible. This could cover things that will get through but could be better, or just a real well done if it was a very good nomination- you don’t always see the showcase if you nominated elsewhere and some areas are so busy your chance of appearing is low.

So better targeted feedback and encouragement to reflect.

Niantic already has many text filters so i would guess that they could use those too when it comes to leaving a comment on a submission...

Niantic will never ever ever ever ever pass freeform text back to submitters. Too much of it would be abusive. They've learned their lesson about that from Ingress comm.

Theoretically your rejection text is used (1) if that nominator is reported for abuse in any way, (2) if that wayspot is rejected and then appealed, (3) if it passes and then is reported as invalid.

In the early days, Niantic flat-out said they didn't want to give too much feedback because cheaters could use that to game the system. Seven years later, we keep seeing bots ruining whole regions, so that still seems like a valid fear. They're just not going to tell you the results of every review.

While I understand that freeform text passed to users is a recipe for disaster, having the actual votes of reviewers beeing visible on submissions once resolved would be a great thing to learn more.

Also having a list of things you voted on with "your vote/community vote" would be a big deal in improving as a reviewer.
