Having a hard time getting approvals.

I'm having a hard time getting approvals lately. I used to play ingress and got a good amount of early POIs included. Now I'm playing pokemon and nearly all my submissions are getting denied. I'm submitting similar things as I have in the past: Memorial Benches, Historic Cemeteries, and buildings.

I'm getting denied for:

  • Other Rejection Criteria
  • Orientation
  • Low Photo Quality

The pictures are good quality, and I'm taking the benches in landscape. So I'm really not sure what it is going on. Are these just not the types of submissions being accepted anymore?

I'd really like to get these benches accepted. They are along routes, in parks, and fill in some space along walking paths.

Here is my most recent rejection which was cited as "Orientation" and "Other Rejection"

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Memorial benches need to be for a significant figure, and not simply for some random person whose family paid for a memorial bench for them. Think along the lines of a locally important figure, such as a former mayor, or a more nationally or internationally recognised person, such as a professional athlete or an actor. You need to make sure you provide evidence of their significance as well. Even if it's a memorial for someone very famous, such as Elvis, you can't guarantee that every reviewer will know who Elvis was (even if 99.9% of people would know), so make sure to include information detailing why they were important.

Cemeteries by themselves are typically classed as sensitive locations, but certain things within cemeteries can be eligible. It does very much help if the cemetery is not used for burying people in the current day, but again, you'd need evidence to show that.

Historic buildings can be eligible, though typically you'll want evidence of what makes it a great place to explore. Does it have unique period architecture? Did a historic event take place there? Is it used as a gathering place currently? If it's on a list of historic buildings, that listing can help you out as supporting evidence.

There was a time, possibly when you previously submitted in Ingress when memorial benches would get accepted. these remain as POI. But things have changed to the situation @HankWolfman-PGO describes and it has been that way for some time now. A similar situation happens with cemeteries.

Do have a look at the AMA section on this forum - although Wayfarer are not good at curating clarifications🙄.

    Do feel free to ask.

It just doesn't seem very fair when some locations have a million POIs and then you try to increase the number in an area and they just all get denied.

Back in the day even Memorial Blvd, got added (and later retracted). Also many of the historic cemeteries, as I said, were added. I don't believe they bury anyone in these anymore but I'll double check and add detail next time.

Honestly, the game is pretty buggy and standing somewhere trying to put good information into a submission is slow and I look sus. I wish I could save the position, take a couple pictures with my camera, and then update it when I get home.

There are a couple of unique locations on hiking trails that I'd like to try to submit, but there are no signs or anything other than this is a cool spot. Would that be allowed? If so, how do I come up with a name?

You can do remote submissions, from up to 10km away in Pokémon Go and 25km away in Ingress.

You can take the pictures, and then also save a screenshot from Google Maps with the location of what you're submitting.

The only downside to this is that you don't get to see potential duplicates unless you open the submission map whilst you're at the location (in fact, you could do that and screenshot the location that way instead of using Google maps).

Another method is to do the submission but effectively leave the text until later - that’s the part that usually takes time.. as soon after as you can, go to your contributions page and put it on hold. You can then edit the text at your leisure and release the hold.

A while ago there was a similar post and it was said that these Memorial Benches (non-celebrities) are also declined in an Appeal.
