Is this a good nomination?

I nominated it, thinking that it falls under the category of unusual or unique local shops. Does it meet criteria? If so, can you help me improve the submission?

Main photo:

"Not enough people know about this hidden spot to get the best priced brand name jeans in Montreal"

Supporting Photo:

"Definitely the spot to buy jeans in Montreal, hidden in an industrial area that mostly only the locals know about."

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

what you have said sounds like an ad for this place, rather than a personal account as to why it would be a a great place explore.

You may get cheap jeans but it appears there is nothing more than that in this place. What would distinguish this from any other shop that sells cheap clothing?

You said you nominated it under the category of unusual or unique shop. That's not one of the Wayfarer criteria. Thise are a great place to:

    1) exercise

    2) socialize

    3) explore

How would you say place this meets one of those?

Then you have to explain how is that jeans shop is unusual or unique compared to other similiar stores. Having best priced jeans isn't enough to make that store unique.

That list is not of criteria, it’s a list of things that could meet the criterion of a great place to explore. The submission still requires an explanation as to why this place is a great place to explore, not just get cheap deals.

How is it different to any other shop that offers cheap deals? If you can explain that then great.

    But as it stands. No.

@MsPacman111-PGO It has to meet the first of 3 criteria. That list you showed is things that possible may meet three eligibility criteria of exercise, explore and socialise.

As a reviewer your first set of criteria to review an object is address if the object:-

    """Does not meet eligibility criteria

Does not seem to be a great place of exploration, place for exercise, or place to be social. The object is mass-produced, generic, or not visually unique or interesting."""

If the nomination does not address this correctly then it probably will not be reviewed any further..... PDPower101-PGO if you can get past the below then the nomination will be considered against all the other criteria elements. As you can pass eligibility but not be accepted. And if other POIs in the Cell will not appear in PGO

Good question - PDPower101-PGO - There are nuances in this game. It is subjective in nomination and review and the game is full of POIs you see and go well that passed so maybe this will. Fair to ask :-)

Originally, I thought that your comment was that I was literally submitting it as as an ad for the store and then I realized that you were simply saying that is how it came across. Part of the reason that I don't do a lot of submissions is because I'm terrible at naming them and describing them in a way that gives them their best chance to be accepted. I feel like if a store is an acceptable nomination then any description will have some elements that make it look like an ad for the place.

I came to this forum to legitimately find out if this was an acceptable nomination. The answer is that it very well may not be. To me, it is because it's a place that I've been going to buy my jeans for ~30 years (yes I'm old :) ). Every time I go, I'm served by the same person who has gotten to know my taste and, in spite of going once a year, remembers my exact size. It's the jeans store version of a "hole-in-the-wall" bar, where the bartender know your name and favorite drink.

I have to be honest...this is also why I don't participate more in Wayfarer. "Unusual or unique local shops" is listed as an example of place to explore, which is one of the eligibility criteria. As far as I know, the store has no other location. That makes it literally unique but maybe that's still not enough? It took a ~year and a half to be reviewed and then it's rejected when it seems like a good nomination.

You asked why it's different. Maybe it's just another store but I posted this in another comment:

"To me, it is because it's a place that I've been going to buy my jeans for ~30 years (yes I'm old :) ). Every time I go, I'm served by the same person who has gotten to know my taste and, in spite of going once a year, remembers my exact size. Ultimately, I'm just trying to get a feel for what is a good nomination...

As a @MsPacman111-PGO said, "unusual or unique shop" is listed as an example of a place to explore. The store is unique, in that it has no other locations (that I could find). I guess that I took it literally and the store has sentimental value to me because I've been going there for so many years.

Unfortunately, I'm still not clear if this is a potential wayspot...

Honestly, being cheap doesn't seem to me that it is enough to be considered as an interesting place to add to wayfarer.

If it had a nice logo, held community events, had some jeans that aren't available anywhere else...

    But price?

  • Elijustrying-INGElijustrying-ING Posts: 5,271 Ambassador

There are some good points here.

What you wrote in your reply sounded better as it showed you had a connection with the shop you started to convey that sentimental value. So although you find it hard to do, you actually can do it.

Shops are notoriously hard to get in as they are by their nature transactional places. It needs to be somewhere that draws you to it. But even though you are trying to say that it is that sort of place, you then say you go once a year.

That then makes me wonder how good it is as you only go to make that transaction. Perhaps a place that would be special would be one you would go to because you are going to enjoy going there. You might buy something, but that is not the reason for going. So yes shops can be nominations that are successful. You might get it on appeal if you try, expand on how it meets the explore category and provide weblinks as proof, of history and special nature.

  • So I have posted a neighborhood fishing pond as a nomination that was rejected very quickly, can you help as to why it was rejected, because to me it seems to fit all criteria as a safe place to explore outdoors and gathering place?

    Lochmere Neighborhood Fishing pond

    Summerfield NC

@dettinaters-ING This was rejected by the AI filter. We don't know all the reasons it rejects things, but we have started to figure out that there is some setting that rejects "natural features." That seems to be what has happened with yours.

To get this past the AI filter, I'd take a photo of the sign. What does it say? Hopefully it doesn't say, "No fishing."

Once you are past the AI filter, you need to see your images the way reviewers will. There are two things that stand out to me that reviewers may not like:

Your finger shows in the bottom of the main photo. That won't show in most of the games, but people still get particular about that.

Your car shows in the second photo. Some people think that is a signal to your friends to accept your nominations and will reject because they think you're trying to game the system. I try my best not to show a full car (even if it's not mine) in the supplemental photos.

These are picky things but this POI is not really a slam dunk so you want to make the nomination as good as you possibly can.

  • Leedle95-PGOLeedle95-PGO Posts: 605 ✭✭✭✭

From the photo, it seems to be a natural feature, no anchor for the wayspot. It looks like there is a sign in the distance. Does the sign identify the pond as a fishing spot? If so, you could submit a photo of the sign as the wayspot and a larger one of the sign with the pond in the background as supporting information.

Posted a comment then accidentally deleted it. I wanted to know if this was a good nomination and I got my answer. "Shops are notoriously hard to get in as they are by their nature transactional places." I understand that it can be accepted as a wayspot but I don't want to have to force it through.

Thanks for taking the time to answer :)
