Incorrect Appeal Rejection: "Third Party Photo".

I recently received a rejection for an appeal where the stated rejection reason is blatantly incorrect, and I would appreciate it if Niantic staff would take a second look at the appeal in question.

The photo used for this nomination is NOT a third-party photo.

Since the photo is of the store's logo, at first glance it may seem as if you have used an image of the logo from the official website.

However, as you can see from the surrounding scenery at the left and right edges, the photo was taken by myself so that the store's signage fills the photo.

You can also tell that the sign was installed at that store by the fact that there are streaks on the sign and a little reflection from the telephone pole behind it.

A search of the article reveals that there have been similar denials before.

In the aforementioned post, it seems that the appeal was final and they would not accept another appeal, but I am wondering if they made this decision after a thorough review.

This post is submitted to raise an issue regarding a photo taken by myself that is allegedly rejected as a third party photo.

We would like to see a thorough review or a review of the system to ensure that similar erroneous denials do not occur.

I also received a rejection mail for my appealed nomination recently. It is a table tennis table inside the university building and it was there at least 3 years old.

Apparently, Niantic rejected this nomination for being on school property, which is true. However, universities do not fall under the rejection criteria. Besides, a nomination I appealed 4 months ago was in the same university, but was approved by Niantic.

I could understand the rejection if it was rejected for being temporal display. But rejecting it for being school property tells us some of Niantic reviewers do not understand the criteria.

  • I was also coming here to post something similar:

I appealed this, which marks the finish for the 1 Mile mark on a jogging/running track in a park. These are put in parks specifically to encourage people to exercise and do their "daily mile" and I've no idea why it would have been rejected by reviewers but especially on appeal to niantic.

Same for me really, I appealed a church hall.

The church is on School Road, and the Appeal was rejected as School Grounds.

I'm not quite sure how the Appeal Reviewer determined this to be a school.

According to the Wayfarer app, the church hall is already a wayspot, though it's been put at the front where the main entrance of the church is.

Furthermore, the church hall appears to be used as a Pre-School according to Google maps.

So I can understand the confusion and rejection. Your original rejection reason of "not historically or culturally significant" was because some reviewers marked it as a duplicate of the existing wayspot, whilst your appeal was rejected for being a school because it's marked as a Pre-School.

It's definitely not a pre-school, but the church does have 2 halls, so duping it/not historically significant I get.

This is very much a problem with Google maps tags. Someone nearby has their House tagged as Snooker and Pool Club.

    Fortunately not.been accepted as POI.

Appreciate your thoughts though @HankWolfman-PGO 👍

NatsukiDeYak-PGO  thank you for your hard work.

I have some concerns about "8BANRamen".Isn't this ramen restaurant a "large chain restaurant"?It is a chain store with 120 stores across Japan and 100 branches overseas.

This is probably why the application was denied. I don't understand why it was labeled as "a third-party photo." However, I imagine that when denying the store on the basis of being a "chain store" as mentioned above, the examiner was unable to find an item for that reason and was forced to give the reason.

So, even if it's wrong to use a third-party photo as a "reason for rejection," I unfortunately think your candidate does not meet Weyspot's criteria.

You know, this is other rejection because this is a Sponsored Restaurant. Try another for Best Restaurant, so you can accepted for anytime.
