A hiking trail and a public foot path are the same thing?

Id describe one as an American term and the other as a British term.
The long and short is I believe all trail Markers large and small should be accepted. They have to be walked to, encouraging exercise, and it encourages people to explore the countryside (in most cases).
Rural areas country side should be populated with Waypoints.

Please don't start this argument up. There is not, and never will be, any concensus on this issue. I don't even think it would matter if Niantic declared all public footpaths eligible and rained down POI from above on the whole network. People would still say they aren't eligible.
Mostly because there is a huge variation in what constitutes a public footpath in the UK.
To have it set in stone that public footpaths are instantly eligible/acceptable makes no sense.
All my public footpaths is generally unnamed. Hiking trails however has maps, names and tourist like features supporting it.
What does "Other" decline mean in general? The difference between passible and generic. Niantic should make a ruling on a wooden sign that says "Public Footpath" with no trail markers.
Aren't those just alleys between groups of homes? But it is a good example showing that not all footpaths are trails.
They are just like a lot of footpath signs in England and Wales a way to say yes you can walk here.
I guess it's analogous to coffee shops in that you can socialise in every coffee shop but that doesn't make them all great.
