Recent submissions for review - most mention PGO
So - many of the nominations I have now - have PGO wording in the supporting material
Great place for Pokes, Pokestops, Gyms, create routes etc etc
It is like they know that 50% of reviewers might be PGO players so hey they will accept.

Well, to be fair, Niantic has shown by recent announcements that Pokemon Go is the only game that matters, and getting more Pokestops and Gyms is the only true function of the Lightship map. Why would submitters not want to capitalize on that? Getting great photos, making days off into day trips to get submissions in outlying areas, writing up interesting Titles and Descriptions...not needed.
Sorry, I do try to keep my snark levels in check....but the recent announcements have angered me greatly. I've gone from someone who only leveled up in Ingress to be able to make "pokestops and gyms" to someone who cares about making quality nominations and never submitting more than I review so I don't build the backlog. I haven't submitted anything in months because I'm that unhappy with the state of Wayfarer, from its poor communication to its failures to keep the map game-agnostic.
I do think the 50% estimate is much too low, though. Not only is the Pokemon Go-playing community exponentially larger than the Ingress community - in Pokemon Go the level threshold for reviewing and submitting is absurdly low. It's possible to reach Level 37 or 38 just opening gifts from internet strangers daily and never interacting with a single POI. In Ingress, you can't even get past the tutorial without interacting with a portal! So in Pokemon Go, people reach the level to submit, then can easily spin up a half-dozen alts to reach the level to review and accept wayspots.
The in-game wording when you submit a new nomination in both games leads you to believe you are submitting a portal or pokestop. [yes people have tried to get this changed] and a natural answer to supplementary info text is to say why the are nominating which naturally enough is to get a pokestop. I never view that as a signal that it should influence my voting……..just a waste of an opportunity to tell me more about the actual POI.
If you only dip into Wayfarer to nominate one or two wayspots you probably don’t pay enough attention as to what exactly you should do. And you never get to learn.
Sigh.
I’ve mentioned before that the games say Portal/PokéStop where they should say Wayspot. It was one of my questions back in the December 2022 AMA pre-Ambassador times.
I can see that from the phrases:
of saying why the nomination is important can translate to some as;
”This is important as it’ll be a new PokéStop I can use for Routes.”
but it then becomes very much wasted space they could have used to improve a nomination.
Comparatively I know that the user base for Ingress is lower in numbers but even back in OPR days I don’t remember seeing that many mentions of in-game terms. (Though there were clearly some as I had things like XM Clock and XM Pool nearby at one point)
@PkmnTrainerJ-ING I think you forgot that Ambassador cohort 1 was in place. Or rather pre your Ambassador time 😉
This has been on the Ambassador list of things to improve I believe since the list started to form in the Spring of 2022.
Yeah, I meant pre my Ambassador time. Thanks for giving clarity.
Didn't Niantic already give an answer to this? Something that the Pokemon GO team thought a simple change in language to clarify the situation would result in breaking the player's immersion that they are Pokemon Trainers.
What? Really ... Hmmmmm well hmmmmm. That is just dumb. Sorry but I would love to sit in that meeting and ask WTAF were they thinking.. Sigh
I do think the quality of onboarding is shite. Does not matter what level you are at - I don't think that matters. And then the ongoing education, clarification, communication etc is well how do I say this nicely - guaranteed to facilitate shite.
That said. As a product manager you go - what makes us money - we need more engaged users - lets do this... Because I have zero insight into there consequences modelling, risk assessments, behavioral analysis it is hard to know. But from my very very very distant position. I see either teams given KPIS to meet come what may (the hippo manager (highest paid person (hippo) in the room) ). Or just really appalling product management that does zero analysis.
But what I am hearing is - yes tand it has got worse recently. Good. Not going bonkers for once! Thank you
my most recent one
Pokestop will support Pokemon Trainer navigation and allow for more streamlined player interactions. etc etc then Players will be kept safe as the street sign is mounted to the residental footpath...
Seriously has gone from 1 in 20 to 1 in 3... And sometimes every single one. Oh gosh wait till they find out about state survey marks. ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I hope you're just as snarky when you see players reference 'portals' in their nominations. It certainly isn't as common as nominations that refer to pokestops but it does happen. Just yesterday I saw an approved wayspot in Go that actually had "Portal" in the title (!) despite it making absolutely no sense. I do agree with you on the low wayfarer access piece https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/47120/reducing-abuse-through-modifying-wayfarer-access
