****-headed appeal-reviewers
Is this really necessary? I submitted what I still believe is a location that "ticks all the boxes" for what Niantic wants. Attached is the dismissal.
The image clearly shows a cairn with a plaque at the top of the mountain, and it's rejected because the title just says mountain name and elevation? This is just plain stupid.

I wondered what word was ****βd. Itβs the animal that this an emoji of for anyone else wondering.

As for the topics, Appeal reviewers tend to be in a US-centric mindset and we have seen a few odd rejections. They may not know what a cairn is, though I think you have illustrated it well.
Wow, rhat has to be the dumbest logic, it's attached tk a mountain, so therefore because the mountain is a natural feature it must be rejected? By that logic everything must be rejected as everything is on the earth, and the earth is a natural feature π
Appeal decisions started to go bad a few months back but Niantic haven't acknowledged the problem so are unlikely to resolve it.
The only tool we had against bad rejections is now a 50/50 chance gamble every time
I'm in the US, but had an appeal rejected for 3rd party photo. Well, I had posted the same photo I took here for nomination improvement, so when doing a Google search for the image, it comes up, but in the search it clearly links back to the forums here. After posting about the rejected appeal in the forums, it was approved less than 48 hours later.
Yeah, sometimes the appeals team doesn't do their research, and it's annoying.
Wow! That's absolutely ridiculous! π€¦ββοΈπ€¦ββοΈ
This one has just done my head in π€¨π€¦ββοΈ
Some on social media have said that it might be because it doesn't have a name on the signboard for the "str!p mall", but that's not a common thing to do here (only for indoor plazas/malls) and the centre as a whole has no name or web presence or anything, so it would definitely fall under an unfair U.S-centric reason to deny an appeal π€¦ββοΈ
The particularly stupid thing is that other "str!p malls" with less community significance and activity in the precinct are approved wayspots (this centre is lifestyle and leisure focussed and often has large gatherings with stalls, displays, demonstrations, radio broadcasts, competitions, giveaways etc in the parking lot - like an outdoor community market) π€π€¦ββοΈ
Regardless, just the ridiculousness of all nomination photos showing a signboard but the suggestion being to submit with a signboard is blowing my mind right now π€―π π€£π€¦ββοΈ
Yeah. Personally I wouldn't accept that, but then I've never been sure if rhese are acceptable or not. But regardless of my opinion on acceptability, that rejection is fro the appeal staff is dumb, like its literally the sign, that's up there as one of the laziest so far
I accept that they're still a contentious nomination with much of the Wayfarer community, which is why I put it to appeal after the second rejection.
I've covered the reasons why this particular example is an acceptable place to explore and socialise (with the sign being the placemarker for the whole centre) and the supporting image even included the screenshot from the criteria challenge for total clarity.
The fact that they're often doing these "needs a sign" cookie cutter responses, rather than rejecting on eligibility criteria or something a bit more logical is just silly to begin with, but this one was so crazy I had to laugh; as irritated as I was by it π π€¦ββοΈ
As a recipient of a βneeds a signβ as an appeal reject I came only agree.
oh man, as a norwegian that pisses me off. In 2021 when they randomly took nominations, they rejected a cairn from me..
Which forum did you post in? I have a negative appeal, claiming third party photo (I took the photo myself) and that the wayspot does not exist (I look at it every day). It's super frustrating to spend time on nominations and reviewing, and then get groundless appeal rejection.
I posted it for the 1st time a few months ago in one of the appeals forums, but really should have posted in nomination improvements. I had appealed, even though I had little hope it would get approved (locally owned Thai restaurant, and others said for improvement it may not get approved).
So, it surprised me when the appeals team rejected for 3rd party image. I posted in misc appeals, and included a screenshot with the details that it was taken on my phone. Someone asked if I had posted the photo anywhere else, like Google Maps or social media. I explained I don't do any of that, but noted I HAD posted here in the forums for nomination improvement. Less than 48 hours later, I got an email that the restaurant was approved, it showed as such in my contributions, and no explanation has been provided to me.
Thank you! I'll try same procedure:)
Yeah But . You know I had to chip in. That is just an advertising hoarding list saying the store names at the plaza, mall, centre (add your country name to a group of shops). There is no sign that says the name of the plaze/mall/centre.
So I go with the fact it is not a "Str1p Mall" sign. 'Cause on that evidence it ain't. Just saying
@Gazzas89-PGO I don't accept them. Unless you can absolutely prove explore, exercise or socialise. Though we don't know what the Glory Box is :-)
KakeKaffeWaffel-PGOΒ - What is weird you seem to have a host of others with the same naming convention and style of photo so hey.
My view is this that had you called it a The <<insert mountain name> Cairn at XXXXm. Then maybe different outcome :-)
Will you appeal?
Sorry, but that doesn't even make sense and it's certainly not a fact - it's an opinion, at best... It's not a str!p mall name sign, but it certainly is a str!p mall sign π€
Str!p malls aren't defined by having a singular name: A **** mall, **** center or **** plaza is a type of shopping center common in North America where the stores are arranged in a row, with a footpath in front. **** malls are typically developed as a unit and have large parking lots in front. Many of them face major traffic arterials and tend to be self-contained with few pedestrian connections to surrounding neighborhoods.
My example is an enormous signboard representing the str!p mall, as a whole, which is the epitome of a placemarker; and there is no other signage that represents the centre (so it's not some kind of underhanded attempt to double-up, which is confirmed easily with street view).
The centre doesn't have a name, has no web presence, and is likely owned by foreign investor/s who don't care to curate, so long as they're receiving rent. This is completely irrelevant to the validity of the centre as a place of community importance to explore and socialise π€¨
Niantic has never said that a singular centre name is a requirement, only that it need be a logical recognisable collective placemarker, which it clearly is.
The stores aren't individually unique or interesting enough to nominate any particular one, but it's actually the centre itself that is an interesting place to explore; where community events also take place (in the parking lot, like large outdoor market/fares). It isn't a disingenuous nomination and it's the best kind of example of the purpose of the str!p mall clarifications and calls for holistic consideration π€¦ββοΈ
In Niantic's own words, as a collection [of stores] they are an interesting place to visit or socialise with others.
Regardless, specific details of meeting criteria is a separate issue that was already addressed and doesn't have much at all to do with the ongoing and often completely illogical signage suggestions many are getting from appeal reviewers.
The fact that my example is obviously a large sign and they've still used that copy/paste reason just highlights the absurdity of recent issues with ill-considered appeal reviews π€·ββοΈ
