Apologies if it has already.

Some amusing 'facts' for anyone who has ever done an iota of reviewing and submitting

Our maps are the foundation upon which everything we build at Niantic, so it’s of utmost importance that we ensure they are both accurate and up to date.

:)

Needless to say, significant effort was also put into data cleaning with our teams manually reviewing hundreds of examples to ensure we properly internalize the challenges experienced by our Wayfarer submitters and reviewers.

:)

These models are incredibly impactful at reducing the pool of ineligible nominations or edits. That impact not only helps Niantic, but has a positive impact on the Wayfarer community

By letting models handle the poor quality submissions, this means our Wayfarers will have more time to review (and hopefully approve) the viable submissions from the community

:)

No wonder there are lots of false positive 'cases' here, e.g. non-EIIR postboxes.

Ha, reduces the pool of "ineligible" nominations or edits...Yeah right. There are many eligible nominations and edits that get thrown out by the automatic system, and then we have to either, 1) appeal or 2) resubmit.

And the maps are out-of-date! I continually go directly to Google Maps for the most accurate information, or do a web search, especially if I can't find the nomination on the map.

Seriously, I think the Appeals team is overworked, exhausted, and getting a little sloppy due to the system kicking out eligible nominations/edits.

    Regarding success

We have no idea how may submissions are being cleaned up before they hit the system

AI is not a cure all in this case. But I hazard a guess that a lot of people complaining are complaining because their dross of nominating and accepting is being swept up

But so are legitimate objects. I get it ER on a Post Box could be Edwardian or Elizabethan. A road name/direction sign looks like a NCN sign. An example of bad signs are road name/directional signs.

At the same time so many people are so used to dross they process because other dross is there. People nominate dross because dross is there.

This means increased onboarding. More attention to continual honeypots. Better updating of knowledge management systems so reviewers can know latest criteria updates etc.

And when will the AI start cleaning up the DB not just cleaning up the nominations.

Can you imagine the number of comments that will hit the system them. I think Niantic would be very wary on how to handle that one :-)

But back to my point. We have no idea of the numbers that are being positively impacted by the change. I say propably a fair few. The increased noise on submissions shows that.
