How do I know why my contribution is rejected?

Hi, I am new here. Yesterday I sent 4-5 contributions for first time. All of them are “in queue” except for one which was rejected.

In first place, I don’t get why the rejected one was voted before, when I submitted it in second place.

Secondly, I just got an email saying that my contribution was rejected, a link to the criteria and my two options: appeal or modify the contribution and send it again.

However, how I am going to improve my not only this contribution but also future ones if I don’t know exactly what was the problem. Is that it isn’t eligible? Why? Is the picture? Description?…

To be honest, I had very little expectation that this contribution were aceptes, because it’s just a random square with benches and trees. But still is a good place to social with others, right?

Anyway, how do I know what is wrong with the contribution? It’s the fact that is a random square, or anything else?

Thank you!!

If your email has this wording (specifically the bit that says "our team"):

then it was rejected by the automated filter. Niantic uses AI to help them prevent low quality nominations from entering the system, though it's not perfect by any means. Without seeing your nomination, I can't say for certain, but the way you describe it, you took a picture that doesn't focus on a specific physical object and instead focuses on an open space. The AI might get confused by this as it can't detect anything in your picture that might be an eligible submission, even though the open space could potentially be eligible if it's a named park (as an example).

    Hi,

Thanks for replying. Yes, the email looks like the one you shared but in Spanish.

And, yes, I took a picture of a an open space. But in this case, just a random square with benchs and trees but no plaques, what can I do? Should I take a picture of one of the benchs instead?

    This is the pic:

Do not use one of the benches either. That automated filter would likely reject your nomination again as well.

In that case, what can I take a picture of? Or simply this kind of squares won’t pass the automated filter ever?

    Thank you.

Maybe the tree on the right blocking the view kinda set off the filter as well. If the title and description are good and a picture with a clearer view of the square isn't possible, I'd just appeal it by explaining why it meets the criteria, emphasizing it's a great place for a large group to socialize. I didn't know about the automated filter until now, which explains why 2 out of my 4 nominations were almost immediately rejected (got the same "our team" email). I appealed to one of them and got it accepted within a week.

    Try this

Take the photo following the Arrow. Show the split of grass to paved

I get what @patsufredo-PGO is saying but I think you can work it just fine with benches. The key is not to use the word bench anywhere including category.

Try to centre the middle of the photo as a 4 x 4 ratio with the benches in.

It is a space to socialise. Local hyper park. Does it have a name? If it has a name use it. Also if local council has a map showing it, or lists it include as link in your supporting information.

In supporting information say space to explore and socialise.

Remember Do not say benches and use the category of community park..

And hey. When I first started nearly all my nominations failed. I have a much higher success rate now. But even now I still get rejections. That is OK. Read the forums. Fine tune your photos, work the text and supporting info. Speaking of photos. Take them first out of the game. Make them pop with re framing/sizing etc. When you create a nomination. You can upload from your gallery :-)

Remember supporting info is your friend. Depending on phone you can upload your nomination later. get home. Open up wayfarer. Go to contributions. Now upload your nomination. It can take a while so refresh page. Once there. Place it on hold. Now you can edit the text. Fine tune - even the grammar - from description to title. Add urls to supporting info. Once you happy release hold. If you cannot submit later. As soon as you can - get the nomination on hold so you can fine tune.

I am also a lot more strategic with nominations. And really go for those I know have a higher chance .Do not think just because you see a POI in a game that yours will get through. Also remember eligibility does not equal acceptance. That different reviewers review the nominations and each reviewer has differing views of Niantic criteria. Nothing is a slam dunk.

So your work as a nominator is to make the reviewers job easy.

    Good luck

Thank you to both of you for the advices. I will take a new pic, review the description and try again.
