Blocked Wayspot - Can you make this make sense?
Here on Tweedy Road in Bromley, opposite the Town Hall, are some of the most historic buildings in Bromley - the first school (of science and art) and the first library are both next door to each other. They are decorated in a wraparound series of fascinating wall reliefs, that depict the fields of science and art as they were seen at the end of the 19th century. I've tried a couple of times to get these buildings accepted as wayspots, but they were twice rejected as dupes, which made no sense... until I saw the Wayfarer database.
Here you can see that there are already two wayspots for these buildings. But they don't exist in any game. They are for two of the decorative relief panels on the walls. Wayspot 2 is clearly the one that is getting my submissions a dupe rejection, as it has all my pictures. But the mystery is: why do neither of them exist in any game? Not even Ingress which has only a 20 meter distance rule.
Now if you measure the distance, Wayspot 1 *might* be less than 20 meters from Mayor Laid Stone on the building across the road. Wayspot 2 is definitely over 20 meters distance from any Wayspot that exists in the game, but it's less than 20 meters from Wayspot 1. Is it possible that Wayspot 2 is not in the game because it is too close to Wayspot 1 *which is also* not in the game because of distance rules?

Yes. They are all too close together. However if there is a free empty cell they can still appear in Pokemon but not Ingress. Not sure about other games.
Number one would have made Ingress if it was about an inch onto the building more. The other one would be cancelled out by the other.
Hi,
The way Ingress has been syncing from Lightship into the game has been based on wayspot distance not live portal distance. So an unseen wayspot can block further waypoints syncing.
So wayspot 1 is too close to the stone so wayspot 1 doesn’t appear in Ingress. Wayspot 1 in turn blocks Wayspot 2 from appearing. Anything added within 20m of wayspot 2 would be blocked from appearing in Ingress.
This issue has been raised as a problem
Decorative 1878 stone date plaque looks like it should appear.
The radius for Art & Science is roughly this
That is bad. You could create invisible wayspot blackholes where chains of "too close" invisible wayspots block the existence of new ones that are actually far away from any wayspots that exist in the game. They need to remove or activate these invisible wayspots. They should definitely show up when try to submit a new wayspot.
It's that how it works though?
The radius of Art & Science, which doesn't appear in Ingress, is blocking 1878 which should appear. That doesn't seem quite correct 🤔
It could be that 1878 is blocked by only just?
...a bit?
If 1 -art &science - didn’t exist in lightship, then 2 -1878- would appear in ingress. As PokemonGo only uses the cell lines 2 could appear in Pokémon Go but there are already several wayspots in that cell.
This daisy chain has been a growing problem as more lightship only wayspots are added.
until this gets fixed I'm not going to submit anything that's lightship only
it's one thing to submit a single thing that won't make a portal, but having that one thing potentially block any number of future portals which would otherwise appear... no thanks.
Number 2 wayspot is now unblocked and in the game. Did someone at niantic fix it?
Interesting 🤔
it would appear tgat wayspot 1 art and science has been moved. I did think it wasn’t correct as it was t on the building. It is now clear of the mayors stone by 20m but it is number 2 that has appeared. I think there is a syncing quirk.
This has been noticed a good while back. Lightship waypoints are blocking Ingress portals from appearing where they would normally meet the distance criteria for appearing. I have one such waypoint that never appeared because it is too close to a Lightship database waypoint but is clear of all other live Ingress portals.
But all we get is “working as intended” and nothing done about it.
A none existent waypoint that doesn’t appear in Ingress and affect the portal network should not block new portals.
That’s not how it should work.
Also blank waypoints with a new picture added appear in Pokémon (and possibly other games) but does not sync into Ingress.
The Ambassadors have raised this and this is another example
As I understand it: The Courts of the World upload, and all the FourSquare uploads - also prevent new portals within 20 meters. Some are visible on PokemonGO (if they meet inclusion rules) only. So for Ingress they create a black hole with 40 meter diameter, even the middle of nowhere.
