Question regarding appeal rejection of a cycle route (are they now invalid?)
Are Official listed cycle routes now invalid as way spots?
I ask this because I had this appeal come back as "seasonal" when this is an established cycle route in the area. The banner mural art was created by local children in local schools in 2016/2017 and the entire lane itself is a protected route by cycle safe Scotland. This means that the route cannot be removed without consent thus making it not seasonal.
In my supporting information I included links to validate this as an official route https://www.eastdunbarton.gov.uk/bearsway to show that it is not seasonal or temporary and has remained in place since install(late 2016 early 2017). The banner is clearly weathered (which substantiates the submission as not temporary) and as the routeway is protected by Cycling Scotland (as seen on the banner) it cannot, as mentioned, be removed. It can also be seen clearly on google maps.
I figured that protected and approved cycle routes were valid and hit the community mark (as it was designed by local school children as part of a campaign) and it also hits the exercise (cycling route) as well as art categories.
I don't feel that my appeal was looked at properly or correctly assessed.
:D Thanks for reading.

Hello and welcome@ASHWATTHAMA1712-PGO
First appeal rejection reasons do sometimes leave fellow wayfinders here scratching their heads as to “what were they thinking”
Clearly this sign is not temporary. So the rejection reason is wrong,
What title did you give this?
There seems to be 2 different things. The picture shows a more general sign reminding people to allow a good space for cyclists. It does not seem to be connected to the bearsway. It might be the quality of the screenshot but I can’t see anything. And I can’t see an arrow or something that would indicate that this aids navigation on the trail.
I would expect the bearsway which seems a good trail to have the bear on a bike symbol on the relevant trail markers.
So if the title is about the trail and then the sign isn’t there is a mismatch ( vice versa applies as well )
If you wanted this considered the focus should solely be on what this sign is about. Is that how you presented it?
From the info here it’s not a strong case for a wayspot. We could try to advise on making it clearer.
Broadly speaking, the ambassador's statement is accurate, but please be aware that school property, regardless of its value, may still violate the disapproval criteria.
Thank you for this, The Cycle route itself is called bearsway due to a combination of the general areas surrounding. We have the west highland way and bears den so bears-way. I conveyed this in the description. The overall purpose of the banner is to denote that this area and section of road is a cycle friendly route and that bikes have priority over cars hence the (give me space). The reason given was not due to mismatched location, they said it was temporary or seasonal. However, as it is part of a protected cycle route it cannot be removed. It has been in situ since late 2016 early 2017 and can be seen from google maps.
This is not a school. The artwork was created BY local school children as part of a cycle safe Scotland contest. The banner in question is no where near a school and is on a public walkway accessible by anyone.
Thanks.
I'm sorry, but regardless of accessibility, school property will be rejected.
Its not school property at all. The artwork is valid. The reason given does not state anywhere there is a concern its a school or school property. The reason is "seasonal" . It's not school property, nor is the art work.
I know the area, it's not a school. The banner was created by school children, but it's in a housing estate, there's no schools nearby
I'll reiterate to clarify any misunderstanding: School property, regardless of whether the location is within the school premises, violates the disapproval criteria. I have received warnings for submitting a school-owned art plate located outside the school grounds. This is not harassment but a word of caution.
This seems to be a case of the Niantic appeal reviewer not really understanding.
I would resubmit the nomination with a picture focusing on something other than the banner. Is there perhaps a metal sign for the trail nearby?
Any help would be appreciated, I really do think this is a valid wayspot given that it does denote a cycle route. I also believe the top of the banner if you zoom in you can see that it is very weathered but makes some nod to bearsway and you can see the little route marker sign (very top right).
Thank you for this, the banner in itself is the trail sign. I will probably try resubmission and use any advice given here. I appreciate all the helpful comments <3
Again I'll say, it's not ona school, ir near a school, the nearest school is like mile away. Its a street in an estate. I dint k ow where you've had this idea there's a school there
@cherry2299-ING Thanks for making the point that anything on school property is not acceptable. I think a translation problem developed as although the word school was used it was not in the context of the actual location of this site. So the reference is not is not relevant in this particular discussion.
Was the original rejection from the AI or the community?
If it was an AI rejection, then I would suggest resubmitting with a slightly different picture. Maybe get a bit more of the background in the shot.
@Elijustrying-ING This is the latest account of a Japanese troll, so it's not a translation problem. The Google translator correctly translated that the banner was created by students and placed off school property.
@ASHWATTHAMA1712-PGO If I take your information at face value, I think your nomination is eligible and well explained. Let's resubmit.
It was a community rejection not AI.
Thank you for the kind words. I will try for resubmission.
Its very disheartening, given that anyone reviewing the appeal could have zoomed in on the picture to see that at the top right of the banner it has the official route logo, and you can see (although weathered) its promoted by cycling Scotland. There is some weathered text under the part which says cycling Scotland which I believe is a URL link to the actual site I put in my supporting information and as listed above. 💙
@ASHWATTHAMA1712-PGO
another Glaswegian- unfortunately exiled😂
I think it’s a bit of a hard sell.
First make sure there is nothing that detracts. For example Milngavie rather than milngavie.
You will need to try and demonstrate how this is different from the standard blue cycle signs, and how this lane is different from standard cycle routes which are meant to be safe. So draw that out a bit more in the description emphasise the community involvement in its design and promotion. Make sure you also cover that it is route for walking too.
Title Bearsway Cycle Sign, [ place name that makes location unique]
if you can give the sign a clean, and then a nice crisp photo.
Then just 🤞
edited to add if the route logo is there draw it to the attention in the supplementary
😂
Thank you so much for the information. I will retake the picture and take on board all the comments people have mentioned in the thread and resubmit.
It was just seeing it rejected as seasonal, felt like no one really properly gave the appeal consideration.
What ?? Are you reading what is being said ??
Unfortunately we have to thread the needle to protect valid submissions from kneejerk rejection by the community, appeals panel or ML/AI.
Maybe call the creators of the artwork 'children' instead of 'school children'? It might help you dodge the trolls.
Am I saying something strange, by any chance?
My understanding:
property→School bus, artwork created by elementary school students.
promises→School building, school clock.
The story about the warning email is true. I haven't been able to post images as Niantic hasn't approved my submissions yet, but please refrain from unjustified insults. I'm serious about this, and being dismissed irritates me.
It's not on school premises, it's not on a school, it's not near a school. The only thing this has to do with school is rhat school kids made rhe art, that's it
At first, I thought the same, and I submitted artwork located outside the school premises. But then, I received a warning email. It's true.
Once upon a time, there was a guy from a far off land, who lived under a bridge. He popped up to leave comments on message boards, sowing discord, until each community learned to ignore him.
The End
@Eneeoh-PGO
Is it acceptable to make insulting remarks on the forum?
I don't recall picking a fight with him, but it seems like I might be getting into one?
It's obvious they can only say such things from behind a screen.
@Elijustrying-ING has already explained to you further up the post @cherry2299-ING that your comments are not relevant in this particular case.
Its not a school, its not property of a school, its nowhere near a school and it was not rejected for being a school.
My question was if the appeal was correctly looked at. It appears it was not given the rejection reason for seasonal/ temporary.
I do not want my original question and the helpful comments to be lost to your comments regarding "school" any further please as I am trying to improve my submission so I can resubmit.
I feel like if you want to start your own thread about why your post was rejected and you got a warning then you are of course free to do that but please do not hijack my post any further with your comments about it being a school when several people have said now, including an ambassador that it is not relevant in this particular case.
We try to keep this a positive space and to avoid personal comments developing.
It would be helpful @cherry2299-ING if you could stop diverting this thread by repeatedly giving wrong and misleading information and interpretation. The correct situation has been stated by very experienced Wayfinders. Please respect that and stop making your inaccurate references to schools.
Understood. I wish you the best for now. There's no lie in my story. I wanted to post the full email, but it seems I'm stuck in the comment approval system, so I briefly explained in text. The warning wasn't a joke or trolling; it's a true story, so please be really careful.
I apologize for causing any discord. Finally, to demonstrate that I am not trolling, I will provide the text of the email I received from Zachary.
"Hello Explorer,
Following a report and an internal investigation performed by our team, we have confirmed that you have been submitting Wayspot nominations that do not meet our criteria. As a result of this violation, you are receiving this email as a warning and an opportunity to learn from your mistakes.
Here is an example of the violation mentioned above:
Title: ※Secret
Context: The aforementioned Wayspot nomination does not meet our eligibility criteria as it is connected to a school's property.
We recommend you review the Wayspot Criteria (https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/21-wayfarer/section/166-wayspot-eligibility/?s=wayspot-eligibility) before submitting any more Wayspot nominations. Note that any further violations can lead to permanent suspension of your Wayfarer and Pokémon GO accounts.
Best regards,"
@cherry2299-ING please create your own post.
You are de-railing my post and as mentioned I want to keep it on topic and try to keep all the helpful comments from experienced Wayfinders on top and condensed.
@ASHWATTHAMA1712-PGO
Understood. I will refrain from further posts. Regarding Zachary's warning, I consider my submission to have been overly challenging, and I accept it as a reflection, so I do not plan to appeal. There might be unintentional posts due to the comment approval system after this. I sincerely apologize once again.
