Game Crashing after take a photo

in Report a Bug
Hi all,
I got level 40 in Pokemon Go and when I tried to submit a new wayspot I faced a frustating error.
After I take the photo and click "Ok" my game suddenly close.
Anyone else had this problem? There is other way to submit a wayspot outsite Pokemon Go app?
Thanks

I have the same issue with my phone. Sometimes, to solve it, I need to restart my phone. And sometimes, I have to clik quickly to take the photo and confirm.
That's frustrating because there are some times when I have to try 5-6 times to do a single submission...
My first recommendation is to simply reduce your image size/resolution via your camera app. Images don't need to be more than 3 megapixels, which should be plenty to maintain image quality. 1080p (1920x1080) is roughly 2.1 megapixels. This will reduce the amount of memory needed when you make a nomination, but also make submitting the nomination quicker. Second, if your phone doesn't have much RAM, close all other apps save for your game. The fewer apps you have running in the background, the more RAM will be available when you submit.
@TheFarix-PGO detailed exactly what I do in order to avoid this. My first time nominating it happened 7 times before I figured out the issue. One more addition- go into your phone and clear out the memory. I'm not sure if this is easy on all types of phones, but in Samsung's, it's under "device care".
It's indeed the camera. Got the same issue if I have the cam open for way too long. No matter if ingame or the regular way. Keeping it open just a couple seconds is the best way to avoid it.
Título del problema: Me saca del juego cuando quiero proponer una parada
* Descripción del problema:
Voy a opciones-> propuestas -> next -> next -> next -> elegir lugar, ok -> next -> photo -> ✔️ y out
* Dispositivo, sistema operativo: Android 7.1.2. // Redmi 4A
Cuando me pasa suelo reiniciar el teléfono o en su caso baja el tamaño de tu resolución desde los ajustes de tu cámara
Is there a problem with my phone, The Area I'm in, or is there a glitch in the game??? I can restart the game but will not go past first pic without PoGo shutting off.
That happens to me too sometimes. Often when my old phone overheats.
One thing you can try is lowering the size/resolution of the photos via your camera's settings. Sometimes it's hard for the game to deal with large files.
I can say it is not a overheat. I will see what I can do to lower the resolution and try that.
Look closely how the app crashes when taking a photo while nominating a possible wayspot. Please take this as a serious matter because I can't nominate a possible wayspot in our area for almost 2 months! I tried many troubleshooting like uninstalling and reinstalling the app, updating the app to its latest version but STILL DIDN'T WORK. I think this bug is associated with internet connection strength. When connected to a strong internet connection like wifi, the app doesn't crash and worked perfectly but when connected to a data cellular, that when the bug occurs. It sucks because when nominating you need to go outside and of course, you need a data cellular connection. PLEASE WORK WITH THIS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, NIANTIC!
My phone using by the way is Xiaomi Pocophone F2 with OS at Android version 10.
Thanks for flagging this issue, while this is more of a Pokémon GO issue, I'll route it appropriately before removing this post from the Wayfarer forum.
Can you confirm which version of Pokémon GO you are using?
Hi @NianticCasey-ING. Current pokemon go version here is 0.187.2
Thanks for confirming @LionHeartDS4-PGO, the 189.0 version should be available in the App Store and Google Play. Can you first try updating your app and let me know if you still have this issue?
Version 0.189.0 still didn't fix the bug @NianticCasey-ING :(
I have the same problem! For me, it works to try again. However, a friend of mine keeps on having the same problem. In the end, the only way she could nominate waypoints was to log on to her account on my phone (both pogo-apps are the same version, both phones are android).
Lower the resolution of the photo in your phone settings.
That’ll fix it
Hi,
As @Pokebollocks1-PGO said, lowering the resolution in your phone camera settings should work.
I sometimes still experience a crash when the PoGo app is opened since a while before submitting a stop. I found that restarting my phone before submitting a pokestop also helps.
Same issue with Google pixel 3xl pogo version 0.189.0-G-64
I had the same twice today.
Ingress crashes too.
I can confirm the location when submitting a stop and take the picture, but then it forces the game to shut down. I thought it was an issue with my phone, but got a new one a few months ago and have been unsuccessful on multiple attempts. Tried different settings, hoping there's a fix somewhere. I've been able to submit one stop, not sure what was different then.
Have you lowered your camera resolution? Many phones, particularly the cheep ones, do not have enough RAM memory to hold two full size photos, plus run the game and camera apps at the same time.
Hey there,
Sorry to see that you're having trouble. Can you provide some more information: what phone model and OS you're using? Also some information about your phone (specifically memory capacity as @TheFarix-PGO mentioned) would be helpful.
Finally, if you could share a screen recording of the behavior, this would be super helpful.
This happens to me frequently - the best solution I've found is rebooting the game, or even the phone. It's temporary, as the problem still randomly occurs later, but as a temporary fix it works.
Thanks I'm going to try this. So frustrating to try and submit something only to have the app crash.
i'm have a same problems with my new phone hawuai psmart 2020 take a photo and app crash
@Foe3643-PGO @sylvieram85580-PGO - Got confirmation from the Pokémon GO team that this is typically an issue with the resolution of the photo and adjusting this in your phone settings should address this.
Can you give this a try and let me know if this solves the issue?
If anyone experiences this issue on an iPhone, there is no way to change the photo resolution.
This was said in the September AMA:
Expanding remote nominations to Pokémon GO and allowing access to previously taken photos (i.e. photo galleries) to avoid image timeouts.
We agree that these are great features which should be available to Pokémon GO as well as Ingress submitters, as we’d like to provide as consistent an experience as possible for all Wayfinders. In fact, we are currently focussed on providing an image gallery when viewing the Wayspot details in Pokemon GO, and letting you vote on which ones you like the best. Note that any feature will need to be prioritized into the roadmap of all the other great improvements coming up both for Wayfarer and Pokémon GO.
This answer is focused on the Wayspot image gallery, not uploading nominations. I genuinely hope the team gives Pogo players the ability to choose an existing photo just like agents in Ingress can. There have been plenty of times where I was out on a trail trying to submit a trail marker but my image was unable to upload due to having poor cell signal. Such a feature would eliminate this issue, and allow someone to resize their photo before making a nomination that could crash their app.
I found an old post of mine where I quoted @NianticCasey-ING:
https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/comment/347/#Comment_347
I checked in with the Wayfarer team and this feature is in development for Pokémon GO although it's not going to be released in the next few weeks unfortunately.
The discussion is no longer accessible, but it was made within the first few weeks of this Wayforum existing. I'm sad my AMA question didn't get a straight answer about it, either.
Seconding the above comments about not being an option for iPhone users.
If the in-app process would allow options for photo-scaling, this might solve the issue for a lot of people. Especially since not everyone comes to the forum for help, and might just give up instead.
If in-app photo scaling isn't in the pipeline, could it be brought up to the app teams @NianticCasey-ING? It would hopefully not be too hard to implement and would solve a lot of issues if after it fails the first time, you get a message allowing you to scale it down to Niantic's minimum size preference.
