If niantic insists now that we select an appropriate item or location can you at least add the options so we can accurately review

Click "other", then select site > sports > athletic field.
This is also applied to all outdoor sport-related field, I guess.

What, then, is your suggestion, and what is your definition of an "athletic field?"
Athletic field - a piece of land for playing a game.
I assume the standard you're holding "athletic field" to is a football/soccer field, but I find the two more or less synonymous for a basic tag. Heck, even a baseball field can be tagged as an athletic field.
A baseball field has it's own tag same as swimming pool, tennis courts, golf club and many others. If niantic want us to review and force us to select an option they should provide the correct tags hence why I tagged Casey.
By definition, it IS an athletic field. We've brought up many times that more tags need to be added, and hopefully they eventually are. Not everything has to match completely, though. An athletic field 100% works for basketball, football, soccer, and many other pieces of land for playing a game.
If niantic base rating on the accuracy of reviews then they should provide the correct information on the tags. If they have been specific on some sporting areas then they should leave people to type in there own accurate tag not something that could be interpreted differently.

That is what this area is for asking niantic for niantics guidance. NOT someones interpretation.
If Casey confirms what you are saying is right then fine but as I say I want niantic guideline.
Here in the UK I'm probably right in saying 99% of people wouldn't reference a basket ball court as an athletic field. Just seems like very American technology.
The what is it is probably tags Niantic is concerned with, an athletic field is probably all Niantic needs for their database.
Yes whilst in real life in the UK you'd never describe a Football (Soccer) Pitch as an Athletics Field (Athletics fields would be strictly for Athletics e.g. Discus, Javelin, Running etc. ) it seems the closest fit. The relatively common submissions I struggle to categorize sensibly are Outdoor Gyms and Community Centres/Halls - none of the available options fit well.
Community centers are recreation centers.
Outdoor gyms are exercise equipment.
UK is well known for pro soccer leagues.

Google+ died ages ago yet they have done nothing to solve this and during google + times it wasnt mandatory to select the tag. what's the point of a data base if 3 quarters of the information is incorrect because 3 quarters of the players are not American and wouldn't call a basketball court an athletic field. There are also others in the list that do not match how in the UK we would refer to something. Yet we are forced to choose something that could drastically affect our rating.
Again that is why I asked NIANTIC to set the Guidelines on what to select.
And we are not well known for pro soccer leagues we have pro football leagues.
@Dazzz12345-ING I get why you are asking. I don't call places where hard court sports occur as athletic fields either.
But I have to agree with others in this discussion, athletic field is the closest thing we have right now. In the US, athletics applies to sports in general. The discus and other related events are referred to as Track and Field in the US.
Niantic, you really should provide guidance or gives us categories that fit some of the most often discussed items like basketball courts.
If niantic can have swimming pools, tennis courts that specifically tag that area as a point of interest its pointless them having the data at all if the tags are not accurately depicted to the different areas.
So now on if asked to select an option for any sporting area should I disregard any of the specific tags and just label them all as athletic field?
Swimming pools = athletic field
Tennis courts = athletic field
????
Outdoor ping pong table = athletic field?
Athletic field???
All jokes aside this is none of the options so how can I base my selection on what has been highlighted??
