Are playgrounds, pavilions, gazebos, or other amenities within an apartment complex that are meant for the residents of the apartment acceptable? Often they're in a center courtyard surrounded by the apartments.

Apartment grounds do not count as private residential property for the purposes of Niantic Wayfarer. So, generally, these would be eligible submissions.
Only those things that are in "common" spaces are allowed. This excludes back yards, balconies, and definitely the interiors of each unit.
No pools either
