I’ve done my best to collect some of the follow-up questions from the AMA that I have immediate answers to.
Will you be able to follow up a little to help better understand why pools are a case-by-case and can you confirm that it has nothing to do with "lurkers" playing on their phones near pools?
Any chance you can answer the why pools aren't automatically eligible as social gathering locations & locations that encourage physical activity (similar to playgrounds & exercise equipment) before the next AMA gets closed out, @NianticCasey-ING?
So instead of answering the question, you've dismissed the thread altogether.
@NianticCasey-ING I'm sure you know the backstory of the pools. They were generally accepted until somebody complained about an apartment complex pool being denied. NiaOps response at the time was they "do not fall under the same category of exercise equipment in a park and would not be considered eligible unless it had historical or cultural significance." Under the first Wayfarer guidelines, apartment pools were actually listed as eligible. Would a swimming pool in a park follow under the category as "exercise equipment?" Your clarification simply says they can't be simply "recreational," but any other athletic or exercise equipment can be simply recreational. You've surely read the gymnastics people use and see that pools still accepted en masse, anyways. Why can't you offer further clarification?
With the relaunch of the Wayfarer criteria, it’s possible that previous guidance regarding Wayspot eligibility or ineligibility is out of date. As such, we’ve removed these from this article, but have left the other information.
Please disregard previous, category-specific eligibility guidance and refer to the updated criteria for the most accurate information.
The question (and answer) has been removed altogether. I don't hate that it was removed, as we discover the new intent to the eligibility requirements, but it feels defeating.
I think it's "fine" how it's set up. The criteria questions were removed and the update exists at the bottom for both.
The Wayfarer Help link has not yet been updated, and I would prefer some sort of HUGE announcement to those logging in to know criteria guidelines have substantially changed.

отключи автоперевод в браузере. а потом иди жаловаться в гугл или яндекс, или что ты там используешь
И вообще стоило бы писать в раздел багов, а не в этот пост
disable auto-translation in the browser. and then go complain to google or yandex, or whatever you use there
Проблема решена.

Those AMA's that you linked to probably need a note that indicates that the guidance is now outdated and superseded by the new criteria.
They do. Read the link and look at the bottom, that's where I got the "update" I posted.
You are right. I think think some note should be added on this page as well - https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/wayfarer/?p=web&l=en&s=other-faq
