Typos

I often come across typos or misspellings in the title/description of a submission, and, to me, that seems like cause enough for rejection, as that misspelling will be visible to the whole world. However, I haven’t found an answer from Niantic regarding this, hoping someone here has one?

I ignore spelling simple grammar mistakes. It's not worth rejecting an otherwise good nomination nor has Niantic instructed us to reject nomination over such things.

Niantic has more or less (honestly probably "less") addressed it:
Title and Description
Rate the quality of the nomination’s title and description based on the following criteria.
Give high ratings to:
- Official titles (if available) or creative titles/descriptions (as long as they add value to the Wayspot)
- Titles and descriptions with correct spelling/capitalization/grammar
- Titles and descriptions that include the artist’s name (for murals, statues, etc.)
Give low ratings to:
- Titles and descriptions that do not match the Wayspot
- Titles and descriptions with player names or game-specific information (artist names are acceptable)
- Titles and descriptions with promotional content, URLs, or HTML tags
- Titles and descriptions that are derogatory/offensive
- Titles and descriptions with emoticons or emojis
- Descriptions copied directly from other sources
Lack of spelling & grammar being an explicit "give low ratings" criteria, I typically give 3-4* reviews for the text portion. I will mark lower if the text is riddled with so many errors that it cannot be read.
Another portion of the review guides elaborates: "If the title or description does not violate acceptance criteria, vote accordingly. Once the Wayspot is live, other Wayfinders will have an opportunity to submit an edit and suggest a better title/description."

That’s the most shocking thing to me; Niantic hasn’t addressed it.

Awesome! That is actually pretty helpful, thanks!
I find the guidelines on the Wayfarer review page very difficult to navigate. I don't think there's a search function.
The page https://niantic.helpshift.com/a/wayfarer/?p=web&s=wayspot-acceptance-criteria does have search function that is adequate.
Your next best thing is exactly this: ask in this community and you will get many opinions (some conflicting) and will help validate how you review and adjust if necessary. Finding a local community can certainly be helpful, too.
Cheers!
I wish it would be a more fluid process. If there was a simple mistake a reviewer can fix it. Then the original and fixed could show up on the next person to review it. That person could vote on it. If they picked the fixed version it moves on to the next person fixed.
Probably dreaming too much
I even wondered if the submitter could get a little pop up/message stating "A reviewer suggested this adjustment to the title/description. Do you want to accept this suggestion and update your nomination? YES/No"
But yeah, probably dreaming 🙃
If it is accurate to the wayspot, has a typo or two: I'm not going to 1* the overall submission, but will deduct stars from the title/desc rating. These things can be edited later. But, if it blatantly violates criteria (Mentions game lore, names the submitter, is completely unintelligible), I will do an overall 1*: Text or description.
