Fresh updates in Wayfarer 3.0!

Hi folks!
Welcome to Wayfarer 3.0. As noted in the Path to 2021 post, we’ve been working on some fresh new updates to your Wayfarer experience.
Here’s what’s new:
- Improving Rating Display: We’ve split up the previously ‘red’ performance rating on your profile page into two groups to better differentiate from a decently ‘fair’ state and an actual ‘poor’ state. We’re also moving away from the stoplight color scheme as that sent the wrong message with respect to the meaning of your rating (i.e. yellow is standard, decent rating, and not ‘at risk’). We’ve also added text (e.g. “Good”, “Great”) to each rating, to improve visual accessibility. While the way your rating is displayed has been updated, the way your rating is calculated and its contribution to your medal in Pokémon GO and Ingress have not.
- Completing your reviews: We’ve updated the messaging when you’ve completed all available reviews to be more accurate and friendly. They previously looked like error messages, but they actually weren’t! As a reminder, the queue of nominations that gets assigned to you each time you log in is created based on a mix of things, like your recently-played locations, your hometown, or bonus hometown setting. So the number of things to review is totally variable each time you log in.
- Ending review sessions: We've modified the flow to bring back an indicator when you've finished your review session. This will allow you to signify that you're done reviewing, but if you don't want to use this option, you can still navigate to the Showcase to indicate that you're done with your review session.
- We also fixed the bug you found on the character limits for the supporting text when editing your nomination. It’ll now tell you when the description is too long.
Still to come:
- Updates to the Showcase to highlight high quality nominations
- Updates to the Criteria in the new Criteria page
- Updating the Review page interface
- NEW: Dark mode!
- Additional bug fixes
Your responses to our Path to 2021 post have been so helpful at affirming and refining the improvements we are working towards. Thank you so much for your commitment to Wayfarer, your quality contributions, and diligence in keeping us accountable.

Can you talk a little about the photo reviews?
Thank you
nicee
great changes
What specifics need to be brought up? I haven't done any, but I've seen examples shared.
There's a link to guidelines, but I haven't seen anything pushed on helpshift site specifically regarding photo contributions reviews. The screenshot I saw specifically said "select the images to reject." This seems counterproductive - there isn't always a clear "worse" picture, and the "better" one will always be more subjective than even the most ambiguous of review guidelines.
Anyways, that's my impression but I haven't actually had one come across.
I was pleasantly surprised with the other changes and even more happy that it came with this post and forum category today.
... wait, what? 🤔🙃
So, can we get "Additional photo not helpful" as a specific nomination rejection?
Please tell about the photo reviews which are included.
Great.
Thank you for providing your insight about something that you haven't developed, you don't know what triggers it, how does it affect the photos, if there's any pending ideas about it,... And that you still haven't seen by your own.
They are explaining obvious changes that everyone can see, so they should also explain a little bit that new feature.
Im still waiting for hints how I review wrong. Untill then I cant leave poor/fair since I got no clue on which nominations I review wrong for.
Dark mode ❤️🖤
Can you clarify if been in the "Fair" state count for the medals in Ingress Prime & Pokemon Go ?, from the description seems that been in the "decent fair" is not enough for the medals.
Thanks
My idea is that we are asked to review portals reported with the google form for "Photo issues" but it's just my assumption.
And still no instructions how to get "good" or "great" rating... I'm reviewing following all rules. But no rating movement. I suggest it is a dead end. No matter what I do and how i review...
Inglés
I submitted the photo on the left on 16 Oct, the photo on the right is the current featured photo (I reviewed this and was able to screenshot). My photo addition was rejected last night while the existing photo remains on the portal. I find it concerning that my photo of the bakery's signage could be rejected while a photo of a car in front of a mural that no longer exists could be accepted. I suspect that reviewers may be selecting their preferred image instead of "images to reject" as the instructions say. Thanks @NianticCasey-ING .
I’m curious as to your comments on Completing your reviews, if that is correct then you are trying to tell us that potentially when we start a review session that the queue of available nominations to review could be very small and if we reach the end of it then there’s apparently nothing to review for at least 3 days. This seems a very strange explanation because we know there are hundreds (probably thousands) of available nominations to review so why does it not generate a new queue for several days if it is working as intended?
we also know that no one has any chance of reaching the end of the nomination queue as we have a big area in London where it is blocked from nominations being reviewed unless they are upgraded
I’m sure the changes will be beneficial, but wayfarer has been slowed down completely for me and everyone in high density areas. I’m starting to get a lot of reviews from other parts of the world I haven’t had before. Also my upgrades are not working. Several days with an upgrade that has not gone into voting. I have gotten a decision with an upgrade in only a few hours (even if it’s just in queue). There is definitely something broken with upgrades.
Thank you guys!, personal opinion will be great to have a better instruction of how the rating score works, some times i got quickly the upgrades, but my score wont improves.
Hi, If you would like this guys review and accept your photo if you have the enough evidence is a better option, you could raise an appeal here: https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/post/discussion/wayspot-photo
Regards!
Agreed! 😎
I have one important bugg tha't still now happening, if u mark an own request as next upgrade u can't erase that request.
Can we get a rating bar for our submissions, like star reviews in product review so we can see what they are being rated?
Can you make it so we can remove upgrade next from submissions so we can add upgrades to others or make it so we can upgrade multiple at a time?
Please tell us what are the new photo. Now extreme hard to know. Let us send in text about way the new photo are better.
Can Niantic Wayfarer make it easier for us to appeal rejected nominations? Like placing a button Appeal on the Nomination that said rejected. And allow us to visit the nomination site again and resend the request. For example, I have a painting that was been rejected. The reason of reject was Not Found In Real World. I should be able to click a Appeal button on that rejected nomination in Wayfarer when I go to the site and retake the photo. If I understand correctly, I got to fill up a special appeal form that require information such as the latitude of the nomination as well as the email that was sent to me. Sorry, I usually just delete the email after reading them as I never thought I would need them for appeal.
You can't appeal rejected nominations.
Instead of deleting the emails, read them. It tells you to nominate it again if you think that it's a good candidate and improve title/description/photo.
This change you are requesting sounds more like "revise" or "resubmit" or maybe even "submit with revisions" than appel. It sounds like a good idea.
Our nominations are in stuck for months. (2-5 months). Moreover my one of the nominations is still in queue for 2 months. Didn't you solve this problem?
I am really liking the QOL improvements in this revision of the Wayfarer interface.
Ending review sessions: We've modified the flow to bring back an indicator when you've finished your review session. This will allow you to signify that you're done reviewing, but if you don't want to use this option, you can still navigate to the Showcase to indicate that you're done with your review session.
I really like this option, if it does nothing more than feel a little better about not constantly being pulled in to "just one more; okay, just one very last more..."
@NianticCasey-ING, if I may, the option to finish reviews does not extend to if you reject the nomination with a 1* rating or if you flag the nomination as a duplicate. Could that be worked in as an option in a future update? Thanks!
