Bus stops and mailboxes.

I've seen a few people making suggested locations out of generic bus stops and mailboxes. As far as I can tell, these would not be eligible by Niantic's criteria. Most of these are in neighborhoods, which itself makes me doubt their eligibility. Am I mistaken? Are they eligible or not? If there was a some unique feature or artwork associated with the bus stop/mail box, I can see those being eligible. But not generic, run of the mill bus stops or post box office.
For the record, in the remote chance that some one at Niantic reads this, I think they should be eligible.

You are absolutely correct. Bus stops and mailboxes are not eligible, though historical UK postboxes seem to be an exception. Postboxes bear the royal insignia of the reigning monarch when they were created, so it's easy to know the approximate age.
Artwork on them is eligible.
I disagree that they should be eligible. The point of the wayspot database is to draw people's attention to interesting and unusual things. Bus stops and postboxes are neither.
I have seen a few bus stops, not all that different to train stops as people congregate there for periods of time. If you play PGO and you see someone throwing a curve ball on their phone then you've got an opportunity to make a new friend.
