how I rate them is up to me, I answer the question given and rate accordingly. But Niantic have never ever told us to 5* everything they’ve said is acceptable and have heavily implied that a 2* to the initial question is still a low accept (assuming that you rate favourably to the other questions later on)
Not the ones I do. Rejected simply for being metal. Because of the mass produced brigade. Plastic disc markers are mass produced and not visually unique either but everyone accepts them as a “anchor” for the trail. Same as NCN trail markers.
These are not Object nominations. Nobody walks a trail in order to admire a trail-marker, unless it’s that one-in-a-million hand carved work of art.
People take their friends on trail-walks all the time, to experience favorite places. As sure as city-folk show their friends the town and farmers show their fields, barns, ops, and range, country dwellers show lookouts, nesting sites, and all manner of natural sights, smells and sounds.
We can’t have Wayspots on these natural beauties themselves without a permanent and tangible man-made object. What’s wrong with using trail markers?
This is why Niantic needs to clear it up with everyone about mass produced markers. To me mass produced markers still do the same as the other markers. They promote exploration.
Again, mass produced items meet rejection criteria. Not acceptance criteria.
Ridiculous aren’t you.
I think the amount of vitriol people are having over whether an acceptable poi deserves 3 stars or 5 because the criteria are vague is excellent evidence for why the review process needs to be changed to a set of clear Yes/No questions instead of the current 5 star system. Star ratings encourage people to get way too philosophical about things instead of just answering “does this meet any criteria for rejection?”
@NianticGiffard , please consider this post feedback on the review system
Oh absolutely. But that’s not a recent thing. 😆 I appreciate the compliment.
This post is doing exactly what I wanted to do. Niantic need to come forward to clear this up as we have a reject reason for something they have told us is ok to sub.
trail markers are acceptable
but a lot of trail markers are mass produced or they don’t look nice but that shouldn’t matter as they still do the job of making us explore the area they are put up in.
I’ll start rejecting everything then. After all everything we nominate is mass produced. If you seen one you’ve seen them all.
If that’s how you want to review, that’s up to you. Happy reviewing! 😀
Always one isn’t there.
It is not the trail marker that is being nominated, it is the trail. And a trail can never be mass-produced. They are all unique.
When we are talking about multiple markers for the same trail, that's were the grey area is, and it is up to the reviewer to decide whether they mark multiple markers for the same trail as duplicates or accept them. Everything between mark as duplicate from the moment you see another one for the same trail on the check for duplicates map, to accept all of them, is a valid opinion.
People who still believe 2* is a weak accept should not be reviewing. And trying to convince others that it is, should be considered influencing reviewers, and thus abuse. The help section clearly states a 3* is "unsure/no opinion", so anything below that is a reject, and anything above is an accept. We are not rating wayspots. The star ratings are:
No wayspot is better than another. They are or they aren't.
Not up to me to tell you how to review. I can give my opinion on nominations (like in this thread) but wouldn’t want to influence reviewers to review a certain way.
Totally up to you how you want to review. Want to 1 * everything? Go ahead. You do you. Have a pleasant day. 😊
yes finally someone who gets the system
2* not really
3* not sure
This is how we all should be reviewing. If you not you are doing it wrong.
The 2* being a probably no is for all the questions after the first one which is on a slightly different scale. The top question is for your initial impression before you look closely at the sub so you could see initially and think meh I’m not keen 2* but then give it good ratings further on as you take a better look at the description and supporting.
We should be made to read everything in the submission before we even review it. Too many people review solely on the first picture alone and don’t even read anything else. Whilst there is those nominations we can reject by the first picture not all of them are and some require further reading yet no one wants to do it. The obscure nominations get rejected this way.
No, it is not. There is nothing in the help section that suggests that.
Both OPR and the Candidate Action Guide are long gone. Don't use their rules in Wayfarer.
To many people stuck in the past. Times have changed. Niantic has evolved with the times as they have needed to be more open with what’s acceptable and what’s not.
This is the only current guidance. Doesn’t say what happens with 2* or 4*.
You will be asked various questions about a nomination and answer by rating on a scale of one to five stars. In general, use the following guidelines when deciding how to vote:
When you answer "Should this be a Wayspot?" with a 1 star rating, you will not be required to answer the other questions and can move to the next nomination.
See its the same thing you are saying
I wasn’t agreeing or disagreeing with anyone. Just sharing what was on the Wayfarer site for reference.
They should remove the 1-2-3-4-5* and have yes - not sure - no much easier
I think Casey talked a while ago (not going comment hunting) about removing the “Should this be a Wayspot?” question all together and have it be based off the other questions.
I assume there would also be a “Mark as Invalid” and then you get the usual rejection options if you’re unable to 1 star the whole thing.
Should still be somewhere in the pipeline. Was scheduled for release last winter, but it got pushed back a little.
I have argued that this would be the better way and to put the current first question at the end. Also yes I do read the whole sub before rating but a low rating for 1st question isn’t necessarily a reject
This is a good read
Old Ingress AMAs, that mention 2 star ratings.
These are the same thing.
This is a trail marker for the Saxon Shore Way. Rejected about 5 times. Yet I’ve had another one in a different location accepted. These are the newer markers that are replacing the older thicker metal trail signs. The older thicker trail markers are always readily accepted first time. It’s not a street sign nor is it a generic footpath sign.
Nice post but old OPR stuff should be completely removed from anything to do with Wayfarer imo
