A tiered medal would be nice, either one per wayfarer event - with tiers linked to number of agreements related to reviews done during the event (number of agreements will still rise in the weeks after the event)
Or a tiered medal linked to the number of participations - but you need to get a certain number of reviews done / agreements to be eligible for the medal. Doing one single review isn't quite participating.
Bonus-Location reset is mandatory for me to participate, I don't want to be able to switch that bonus location (clear the bonus location or be able to reset it whenever I feel like changing it back (or swap to the next challenge)
As for the upgrades: if you do your reviews you will get agreements / upgrades
An incentive for the event can be double credit in the counter for upgrades on reviews done in the selected country - in that case the reviewers that do a lot of work will get more out of it than those who pop-in and do a dozen of reviews to get to the reward package
I'll wait to see if we'll be allowed to change our location (bonus or home, doesn't matter) to join and reset it after, as I don't want to be stucked reviewing in Brazil (or any other challenge location) ... rewards seem a little poor to me, at least for Ingress.
A tiered medal would be nice, as mentioned in previous comments ... as for upgrades, I think they would make rewards more appealing, maybe double credit would be a good incentive and more fair than giving out 10 even to people who just reviewed a couple of submits during the challenge to get them. Or maybe a minimun threshold of agreements to get upgrades.
The double credit idea is actually pretty good, I like that a lot. It actually rewards you according to your own contribution, so it's very fair.
So let me get this straight, they are doing an event without any upgrades as reward ? I havent changed my bonus location, but if there are no upgrades available, i am not participating :)
I'm disappointed I missed out on the previous challenges that offered upgrades... but still excited to participate. I also dont want to be stuck in Brazil for a year, so hope to get clarification on whether our location will get refreshed after the challenge.
I plan to participate, but hope that Niantic improves the rewards.
It would be good to see Niantic massively publicize the event on their social networks, as the Wayfarer is not well regarded by the Brazilian community.
I made the poll so you could get an overview of opinions.
I hope that Niantic adds Upgrades in order to make the challenge more interesting for all. That would definitely change some minds.
As fewer people join the challenge, as harder it would be to reach the goal of 4k/6k approved nominations.
Niantic? Listening to their player base? What madness is that?
Sorry, I was daydreaming. Im kinda tired today...
In my particular case, I do not need to place any location in Brazil to participate since due to proximity the system always assigns me orders from the border of my country with Brazil and Argentina, many say that they will be trapped for 1 year in Brazil but in the statement it does not say that those who already have a bonus location and that of home activated have the possibility of changing them again to participate in the challenge.
Tier 2 rewards look great!
40 XMP, 40 Ultra Strike, 40 Hypercube
I am not comfortable with having to lie to set either my hometown or bonus location to Brazil to participate. If there is a way to opt in without resetting my locations, I will help. For free.
Niantic? Listening to their player base?
Thank you all for your feedback. I’m excited to announce that Upgrades will also be a part of the rewards. You’ll see the original post updated with the following:
As for those asking if the event will be open to all or just to those with current Home & Bonus Locations set to Brazil, the event will be for those who currently have a Brazilian location set as one or both of their locations or have recently played there in Pokémon GO and/or Ingress. While the Russia Wayfarer Challenge was a great exploration into experiencing global events, it presented challenges that many of you also felt. While we work on being able to support events of that size, we will continue to have localized events to ensure quality engagement and support.
That's actually a good compromise between those of us who didn't want any and those who wanted 10.
A question many wayfinders would like a hard answer to is:
Will Home/Bonus locations be reset before or after the challenge so players would be able to participate if they are not already reviewing in the area?
Just so there it a cut and dry answer for anyone who may be confused because of previous events.
Thanks for the update but that moves me firmly from "not sure yet" to "no", and I feel like it moves a lot of the people in this thread (even those who said yes originally) to no as well, since the "yes" votes seemed to be mostly with the assumption that we would be able to change a review area like we have for most of the previous challenges. The upgrades are appreciated, but without being able to participate it makes me wonder what the point of even having the challenge is, since you're only doing it for people who would be reviewing those things anyways. Maybe if you're not going to let us change our locations you could consider running multiple events simultaneously so that the people who want to participate are able to? Like if you did Brazil, Turkey, and South America at the same time - those are all geographically far enough apart that there shouldn't be any overlap. And then maybe throw in USA for fun, because we could definitely use one too 😉
Two, when we had five as a base level before? Hmmm
Bonus location resets will not be done. apaparently its too much of a strain on staff & also foreign voting is of lower quality than locals, so they opted against it. Russia's spicy rewards & massive gloabal involevment was great but this is not the direction Niantic wants to go in, they prefer quality over quantity...I guess i respect that
Based on the update, I would like to change my vote to no. I won't be participating because I haven't recently played in Brazil (actually, I have never been there) and my home and bonus location are set. Unless they unlock my locations, I won't be reviewing nominations in Brazil.
I’m also for a “No” now.
None of my locations are available for moving, so I guess I won't be returning to Brasil.
No home/bonus resets, and only for 2 upgrades? no thanks Niantic, you can keep them, it's not worth the hassle of dealing with the Brazil abuse and all the random coal that those players are accepting.
Seems like this one gonna go down in flames, I doubt many (if any) will participate, your communication skills as always are severely lacking as usual Niantic, it took basically 90% (if not more) people on this thread to basically say "not sure/no" to get upgrades included when realistically that should be bare minimum.
I'd be okay with this, if on the sole basis that there is a reset BEFORE the event, for people to participate, and then again AFTER the event so people can get their home/bonus/both away from Brazil, but I guess in the end it doesn't matter since Brazil was one of the places that got the Waysquarer import right? don't need us anymore.
Agreed, it'll likely be the same people currently reviewing, unlikely these rewards will enourage additional locals, especially since wayfarer events dont appear on In-Game news (it should)
Well theres 1 upgrade for Tier 1 and 2 upgrades for tier 2... But its only for Brazilians. No changing the location this time. How do I change my vote to NO? lol
So I'm kind of missing the point here. If you are not bringing aditional reviewers to help, I don't really see the point in making the event at all, to be honest.
It's nice you've heard the community and offered some upgrades, but this post does bring up an issue for me.
You state that this is intended to be a locally focused event, which I have no objections to in and of itself. However, you invited all of the community to vote on the next location, which I'm sure many of us did.
When the poll went up to choose between Turkey, Brazil and South Africa, there was no indication that we'd be voting for a local event, so many of us joined in the voting and picked a location that we'd like to help out with reviews and to explore through Wayfarer. Only now do we find out that we weren't going to be able to do this. This probably would've been better communicated before we were invited to vote in the first place.
As long as there will be no hometown/bonus location resets, whats the point of the challenge? Lets pretend you changed your bonus location a month ago, now you wont even have the chance to join the challenge. Honestly, this WF challenge is already lost.
it would be rather pointless to have a local event for South Africa, and not have the wayfarer boys and girls from all over the world join in.
Niantic needs to be clear in its wording. As @HankWolfman-PGO pointed out, we were under the impression that there will be another global event.
You cant just run a poll and then say "Uh, well, this is only for the locals".
Anyway, i am not interested in it anymore. Maybe the Brazilian Wayfarers are interested in it.
So it's not a GLOBAL challenge. Why announce it as such?
