A long awaited request that should hopefully be coming soon™.
Probably too late, but hopefully this will include:
Immediate response. Even if it's just an automated email saying "we have received your request," this would make us feel like the report actually went through and wasn't hung up or timed out.
Additional feedback. If your report is denied, provide a link to the Wayforum or option to provide additional support in privacy.
Total anonymity. We deserve it.
My first reaction was just a "Wow, that message really had like no content". I mean, it's nice to hear about Niantic actually doing something but in the end, I haven't received any more information about new anti-abuse mechanics. Hope the will be more information in the near future.
Yeah... It could have at least something about how it will work
Total anonymity is a must for me! Honestly all appeals should be 100% anonymous not just abuse, but at least abuse would be a start.
Additional feedback would be nice too. So many generic responses that come off as no real human actually read my report.
I am hopeful that this deadline will actually be met, and I have some questions in the meantime! @NianticTintino @NianticGiffard @NianticDanbocat
Back in April @NianticCasey-ING had mentioned that one of the reasons for the delays in this system coming out was so that it could also accommodate appeals. Is that still happening? I would hope so, given that this feature was supposed to come out on May 1st when it was just abuse reporting.
The current abuse form is, as far as I know, still the "proper" way to request edits that are greater than 20 meters. Will this new reporting system also allow us to request edits greater than 20 meters, and if not, what will be the "proper" method to do so going forward?
Lastly, is there any chance that people who regularly report abuse will be able to test this feature? I have another round of St. Cloud abuse stuff I need to report and it would be great to take the new system for test drive and give some feedback. I'm sure some other reporters would love to give feedback as well, all we want it to help make the form as effective as possible in combatting abuse.
Dunno if I should wait until the next AMA, but there are so many questions/requests about the new abuse system -
How is it going to be different from the form? Are we gonna get feedback for our reports? (as Gendgi said above, we definitely deserve that) If so, are only reports made through the new system going to get feedback, or would we get feedback for reports made via the current form up until the new system goes live? Is it going to be remain one-wayspot-per-report? Is it going to be integrated into the Wayfarer website, or a separate thing like the current form? Will we be able to report wayspots from the duplicates map?
(Some of these questions were answered by Casey back when they originally announced the new system, but seeing as we're getting it months later than previously promised, maybe some changes happened since then)
If this new process works, I will miss your St. Cloud reports "lbvs"
Will there be any punishments for people who misuse this?
To prove abuse, we need clear evidence. People who repeatedly report non-abuse or falsity should be penalized, as it is against the purpose of the reporting system.
Sure, but even in these forums it's not what happens today.
I'm not talking about people using a lot of drama to pass a normal request as an abuse one, I've recently seen at least two very clear abuse situations while appealing:
One guy took a geo tagged picture requesting removal of a monument, but other people proved it was still there (he just took the picture in another direction, completely hiding the POI from the picture). They didn't remove the POI, but AFAIK there was no punishment for the fake report.
One guy has reported the same spot at least 8 times in a matter of a few months here in the forums. He even used a second account to report. The POI was not removed (as there's nothing wrong with it), but he might be still trying (no idea what's his goal here, either he wants another POI in the cell or to move the Gym).
These things need some sort of punishment, otherwise you are free to try anything, and if it sticks you win.
@NianticTintino @NianticDanbocat @NianticGiffard
Perhaps talk to @NianticCasey-ING about my specific case, about why I must now refuse to engage in any non-anonymous abuse/fraud/removal requests.
What I would expect from this is, they'll use the form like this:
At least we should get a response, unlike the previous Google Form.
In Wayfarer or new page?
Need report in apps for wsysports dont follow criteria. Not help mutch when cheting with accept when people know it is exyreme hard to get wsysports dont follow criteria remove when we cant report wayspots dont follow criteria.
There are barely punishments for people who abuse the system as it is now so I would unfortunately guess no.
@LukeAllStars-ING @AgentB0ss-ING @HankWolfman-PGO - this update is about the abuse reporting mechanism moving out of this Forum and likely into Helpshift. I am sure @NianticTintino will share more details once it is finalized, but I asked them to post a quick update here since you were all waiting. On anti-abuse, policing and punishments, we are working with our Trust & Safety team at Niantic to look at it broadly across all games. What's the #1 thing you want to know about?
@AisforAndis-ING - per my End of Summer post, we are working on the nominations appeals feature right now (drawing up the specifications and working through some engineering questions). But if the appeal is due to a group of locals that intentionally behaved abusively to get your nomination rejected, then you actually make a report, not an appeal.
@SiIverLyra-PGO - it's going to be a Helpshift form, as it will make it easier for us to track in our system. Right now we are using the Wayfarer forum to receive your reports and it's not easy to track.
@0X00FF00-ING - i agree, anonymity is important and I'll bring this up with the Trust & Safety team as well - cc @NianticTintino @NianticPooja
~~ hope this helps
If the abuse reports go back to being anonymous, proving feedback to the reporters would help a lot.
A big reason people started reporting abuse on the forum was because the old/current(?) abuse form was a google form that people could only report one portal at a time, and nothing would ever come of it. Reporting on the forum was the only way to get stuff done (with the caveat that reporters now face being harassed). So if reporting moves back to being anonymous, actually following through with the form and providing feedback to reporters is crucial.
Thanks for this, it sounds like a big improvement.
But if the appeal is due to a group of locals that intentionally behaved abusively to get your nomination rejected, then you actually make a report, not an appeal.
Huh. I can say that I've made a detailed report on the forum on abusive rejections, got a reply promising that the abuse team will look into it, and never heard from Niantic again (with the frustration leading me to make a very strongly worded comment about it, admittedly). That led me to believe that Niantic don't currently (or are generally unable to) look into abusive rejections. Was I wrong in assuming that, then?
so next time, you will get a nice "help"desk-reply, and then never hear something from Niantic again.
