the event will be for those who currently have a Brazilian location set as one or both of their locations or have recently played there in Pokémon GO and/or Ingress
And this is the answer I've looking for. I take it even players in Saudi Arabia are eligible to access Wayfarer while Pokemon GO isn't available in that country.
No mention of being able to reset our home or bonus location before or after event to participate.
I anticipate that Brazilian submissions are going to need a lot of scrutiny to determine if they are fakes or if they are located in the right place. So this challenge will be a lot of work.
WF+ is still down so it will be a LOT of work to translate the submissions.
Basically, Niantic is asking us to do a lot of work for almost no rewards. With the Russia challenge, I was able to have a real impact on their POI while at the same time earning a lot of upgrades for my local submissions which made a huge impact on my local playing community. I'm stuck in one of those communities that is already fairly dense so submissions take a crazy long time to reach an agreement without an upgrade. But even though my community is already fairly dense, it is constantly changing so we find new POI to add all the time. We need those upgrades but until the last few days, earning them was a long and slow process.
Obviously, Niantic thought the upgrades from Russia were too generous. But I don't understand that logic. If we do the work for you, we deserve some kind of payment. When you're having a challenge, the payment should be special.
I don't think the reward is a bit, but I would still have liked to take part. Since I do not have a location in Brazil, I am unfortunately not allowed to participate. I would have liked to see what the wayfinders in brazil are submitting.
I don't care about the rewards. But lack of clarity regarding changing Home or Bonus location changes sets me back. A great reward in any challenge for me, would be resetting both of them, after the event to any place I want them to be at.
Still, Brazil has ten of thousands of poi already. I'm trying to help out in Africa, where cities of several million people sometimes have under a dozen stops.
Rewards very lackluster. Was hoping for way more upgrades and more tiers to incentivise participation.
Also not resetting the location after the challenge is NOT a good way to entice people to participate. Very steep ask for the active reviewers out there and especially for those who do not speak Portuguese.
As it stands, this is an event for local players and spoofers to benefit without any significant potential to increase either the quantity or the quality of the accepted wayspots or reviewers.
I understand what a nightmare of operationalization it is to manually reset the locations of all the participants after an event, but at least loosen up the bonus location reset to once each 2~3 months until you have a way to feature flag the opt-in for the challenges. It should be a very easy hotfix to do (and revert) in a few minutes of engineering time. If it isn't, then consider paying your engineers a fair wage or hire a proper team or professionals to do so.
Overall, I feel wronged with this event. This is NOT a global event and, as the metrics will show you after this event, it will NOT serve us any good in quality and quantity of reviewers and wayspots.
Rather than go through all the faffing about (both before and after) of changing things like "Bonus nomination locations" etc etc, why not just have a "new" option on Wayfarer for "Brazil Challenge", which takes us through to the Brazillian review queue. This would enable to dip in and out whenever if they were interested in taking park. Surely thats not too hard to set up for this and future events?
I would have happily participated to help improve Brazil, even for just a couple upgrades. But it's pretty clear it's intended to be locals only. Guess I'll just worry about my own area!
Guess the goal of 4k approved nominations wont even be reached as long as Brazil starts just approving every single nomination that isn't entirely trash xD
@NianticTintino is it still scheduled to happen? We're like 3 hours away from the start time and we don't even have a forum section created yet, no further communication today either...
The forum sections only got created when everyone could join in by changing their bonus/home location. As it’s only open to those who had it already, that’s a smaller section so no point having a separate section of the forum.
Glad I decided to just set my bonus location to Brazil to do this, since this morning I've reviewed a grand total of 3 Brazil nominations, and none of them were during the actual event 🙃
With Tier 3 rewards unlocked at over 16,000 acceptances received, I'm wondering....Brazil is a huge country. What is the normal acceptance rate, and how much of an impact has this "event" actually had compared to a similar time period without the enhanced rewards?
Will future events also exclude foreign reviewers, or has this event's numbers proven that global events are no longer beneficial?
Something that Niantic should consider: There’s some small cities in Brazil ( and probably all around the world) that don’t even have enough “valid” spots to send for approval. People evaluating submissions are expecting to approve massive stadiums, statues, important buildings... meanwhile the people living in these cities are struggling to have their submission accepted. We have to understand the difference between realities and work with it, and even help somehow. That way we can make the game enjoyable for every one. Unfortunately these places are lacking points of interest, they have a few or none pokestops. They are trying their best being creative, sending wherever fits in the criteria, even if just a little.

So the event is for brasilian players and for fly players ... niantic promoting fly everyday 🤬.
sorry but i can't participate.
No, the event is open for everyone who has set either home location or bonus location in Brazil. This has nothing to do with spoofers.
the event will be for those who currently have a Brazilian location set as one or both of their locations or have recently played there in Pokémon GO and/or Ingress
You can do this if you have a smartphone with internet access and access to Google services.
While Pokémon Go is not available in some countries such as China, Ingress can be played anywhere in the world as long as you have a connection.
That's it, more reasons not to participate this event.

Definitely no. No. Period.
It's not a global event. No

3 upgrade? Even if I don't participate in the event, I can get that many upgrades.
In addition, I don't think I have any reason to participate in the event because only locals are expected to participate.
It is slowly getting really sad if no further comments are made on the negative comments. It feels a bit like Niantic doesn't care at all !? 🤷🏻♂️

the challenge already started 9 hours ago

12 pm is usually noon (although it's very confusing and should be avoided in official comunications). We would be 2:30 away from it.
challenges always started at 00:00 local time, and that was 10 hours ago
Hello Explorers,
The Brazil Wayfarer Challenge starts TODAY! Check out the discussion page for the challenge HERE.
I wish I could change my vote to "no."
Same. I'm surprised this even is being announced on the forum in English TBH. I
I'm curious by what method NianticTintino is participating. Home location, bonus, or being in person.
Also, @NianticTintino, the link that the Pokemon GO Brazil twitter account links back to for the challenge is dead.
Glad I decided to just set my bonus location to Brazil to do this, since this morning I've reviewed a grand total of 3 Brazil nominations, and none of them were during the actual event 🙃
Was looking forward for this challenge, sadly they didn't even allow ppl from South or Central América to help.

Congratulations on completion of the Brazil challenge, which racked up an average of nearly two acceptances per participant!
Can't wait to see how South Africa plays out.
