[NL] Do we need half a million wayspots more in the Netherlands?

Just to clarify, and yes i know we might be an exception in the number of signs, but really do we need another half a million or more wayspots?
This map is showing you what sigh is where and what is on it. Do we really need them all? In all games?
It is a public database btw.

Directional signs should not be eligible
I have been following the discussion:
The examples given there apply to maybe half of all the signs in the database, maybe more, never less.
I am confused now. I do not think it would be wise to add all these to all the games. I know we are an exception. We do have a lot of trailmarkers, signs etc. But the sheer numbers, looking at this map, just made my mind burst.
Niantic said yes to more stops, add also the dog waste bins to your counter.
Not all of them would make it in places like NL as they do have a enormous amount of these types of way points.
Don’t complain these will make some small towns and villages much better now.
It’s the same in Belgium... they are all over the place. If these are eligible, 75% of all the poi’s would be the same thing
We had that discussion before. The discussion was lively and then closed.
Go, follow the rules that Niantic gave you.
It is still up to players to nominate and for them to be reviewed.
That is not a quick process.
It could lead to cells being flooded and then stagnation. The queuing system prevents too many from one small area entering voting at a time. It works best when there is a slow trickle in with enough reviewers to cope with the flow. So submit with caution or the whole area will grind to a halt.
An eliglbe POI is a good POI. Most of the players of the Niantic Games want more stops. So why not add those eliglbe POIs.
In bigger cities those trail markers will not make a huge difference. But in rural areas and in the nature this will be a great addition. You can explore the nature and Play the Game you Like.
exactly. thanks for pointing that out.
yeah I agree the debate on markers is now over we have had the answers. We now know what’s acceptable and what’s not. Get subbing.
NL may have better cycling POIs than the UK because they are segregated cycling only routes. Whereas on the UK, a lot of it is just road signs.
Here's a road sign with no pedestrian access that @NianticGiffard said was acceptable on the UK thread. Obviously, I would 1* this against their advice. https://goo.gl/maps/yJ5p5NWbipynv3hn6
That is a shared sign for all users pedestrians cyclists and cars on a minor road. These minor roads are classed as safe for all by the NCN.
anyways that’s all from me we have are answers on the main post which has had plenty of these debates.
From an American perspective this might look like a good POI, but in Europe and especially the netherlands, there are just so many, why would that be favourable? Then you could pretty much just put a grid on the map and place a way spot every other cell..
I can not get a very nice poi excepted for starters. Why would i want to submit these stupud signs. Those so called trailmarks are on every damm street corner in this country.
I nominate an art work, on a trail with trailmarkers etc it takes 3 or more times to be excepted.
And the wait for a nomination to go thru the system here without an upgrade is about 9 to 10 months. (Way better then before when it was 2 years)
So honestly, seriously you are telling me to start subbing?
In addition to the fact that Niantic wants them in their game, it's worth mentioning that in the Netherlands, these trail markers are often in outstretched nature areas that otherwise don't have many POI's, plus they nicely mark hiking and cycling trails, which is the spirit of the games.
True for some i do agree. But i already have recon double wings but only 223 excepted portals. It really takes a long time to get them in game.
Please explain why i need to submit more of these signs when i can not get an artpiece for example ingame?
Submit whatever you want, as long as it is eligible. As long as you accept them while reviewing, it's okay.
And it's sad that you have difficulty with genuine art pieces. Everything that is acceptable should be easy to get accepted.
@BatrachianAnura-ING In danger of digressing further: I have no information about your artwork nomination or why you can't get it accepted, so I can't explain.
I do know that trail markers are all the same, so if a reviewer sees it being a proper trailmarker (not road signage or only an arrow), they don't have to think about much else other than verifying its location and presentation (photo, text). Artworks need to be investigated more, leading to potential rejection reasons (is it on a roundabout and therefore unsafe, is, or does it LOOK temporary like many expositions, is it on private residential property (or, again, does it LOOK that way)?
If you want opinions about it, leave a thread in the nomination improvement forum.
So @NianticGiffard this all relates to your comment on the trail marker discussion, where regular cycle signs are marked as good wayspots, as seen below:
The map posted by @BatrachianAnura-ING is showing all of these signs in the Netherlands (which is bicycle heaven anyways). If you really want these wayspots. You could choose to import such a database, would save submitters/reviewers a huge chunk of time and effort.
While I wouldn't personally pass that (mostly cause I don't speak Dutch so not sure what that says, so I'd have to assume it doesn't actually say anythi g about it being a bike trail), I do think it would be a really good idea to have maps for cycle trails used to put waypoints in, rather than having to go find them ..... assuming that those maps have the markers posted to where they would be
The picture shows just the name of nearby towns and distances, but was passed off in previous thread as eligible. Which is indeed what @BatrachianAnura-ING is trying to point out these directional signs are pretty much on every crossing for bikes (which is almost every street in the Netherlands)
These wouldn't show up in all games due to cells. So its not like everyone would make it into every gameboard. Signs like these are great for people visiting an area for the first time so it could help them explore a new area whether that is in a city or countryside.
It would be nice to get some clarity soon from Niantic, because if those kind of trailmarkers are accepted, why are all those walking-node-network poles are rejected?:
That picture is not a category of sign that was in the list provided in the other thread. All signs in the other thread have some kind of marking on them that represent a trail. Either a trail name, trail number or trail symbol. This sign does not have that. As I currently understand the guidelines, these signs are not eligible.
A trail marker is a sign that guides people along a trail. And a trail is a predefined route with a fixed starting point and end point. The starting point and end point can be the same point (loop trail). It can be one direction or bidirectional.
The sign you posted only points people to an end point, but it has no predefined starting point or route. Therefor I do not consider it to be a trail marker.
For the Netherlands, I guess the most common types of trails are named trails, trails that use symbols (rectangle, triangle, circle, ...), and node network trails (knooppunten).
Because many reviewers don't like them and actively campaign against them. Until very recently, they were able to come up with a bunch of excuses to reject them, but the latest clarification stopped that. Now they are trying to get the criteria changed.
It will probably take a while before most reviewers will be aware of the new clarifications, so you will probably get a lot more rejections before you get all of those accepted. But I wish you good luck!
There's a bicycle right on top of the pole, pretty universal.
because many reviewers will soon get a bad awakening. Be sure to tell every reviewer in the subtext that they are not okay in rejecting these "per-se"
