If you give 1/2* in accuracy, you're basically rejecting the nomination.
If you are not sure but it's likely to exist there, give 3*
yes a surrounding picture in the woods is realy helpfull :P
Depends, really.
For instance, if in the supporting photo you can see a clearing nearby, and you can spot the same clearing in satellite view, that can assist in determining the accuracy of the location.
Photospheres are ridiculously easy to fake, especially in the woods. They're also not a requirement, never have been.
The guidelines are clear: if you're unsure about the location, but you find it realistic (the main photo is in a forest - the supporting picture is in the forest - the location is in a forest, with no suspicious PoI clusters or patterns nearby), rate it 3 stars.
Compare main and support photo with the satellite view to get an idea of whether it is well located, lastly search for information in google of the area
Just because it's covered by trees doesn't mean it's a bad nomination. Guidelines say to 3* if it makes sense to be there but you can't see it. So if the rest of the info adds up, just 3* the location and rate the other categories as you see fit. You might or might not find anything about the specific area or POI on Google. It's not really a big deal.
If the object occurs on a trail in the woods and there's no photosphere, my first port of call is attempting to find trail maps (depending on your area, even alternative maps like OSM can often be more detailed than Google for hiking trails) or a website for the area. It always helps if the submitter includes information such as the name of the woods/forest/state park/national park/nature preserve that the potential Wayspot is located in.
It's very easy to submit a photosphere in completely the wrong location, especially when you're dealing with GPS drift under a tree canopy, so trail maps can provide important clues that add a lot more context.
3 star, because imo, no one is faking a poi in the middle of a forest lol
You want to bet? lol
Ok, maybe 1 or 2 people might, but for the most part, people wouldn't because ... well, why bother, the whole "moar stopz" argument doesn't work when it's not home/work stops (or portals as well).
I came across a nomination in a nature preserve today, of a trail marker. In the map to check for duplicates, the nearby points were the usual suspects: a similar trail marker, a fitness station, a footbridge, etc… but they weren’t in a straight line, they were staggered this way and that in what looked like a pattern to fill cells. On the map, every POI was under a tree so there was no way to verify the location.
I didn’t note where it was or take screenshots or look up the intel maps of the cell maps, and for that matter I don’t even remember how I voted on it. But I do remember that as soon as I saw it I was certain someone was gaming the system.
edit to correct typo
I think you need to check it against cell maps to make that claim. It's entirely possible the trail isn't straight. Maybe the fitness station was off the trail, which is common. Just saying, anything without a cell overlay is just speculation and there could be any number of legit reasons for them to be arranged the way they are.
Either way, 3* is the way to go, unless you're positive there's something weird going on.
