Day 222
Day 222,
This is a follow up to Day1.
222 days later and we have not gotten anywhere yet, promises but no deliveries. Systematic abuse is just as strong as ever. Abusive clusters done by edits are not dealt with because the wayspots really exist in reality.
St. Cloud abuse is still as it was a year ago. Day in and day out there is examples of abuse in these forums (because there is no other way to report them anonymously), and sure most of the time abuse gets corrected, but all the abusers get is a slap on the wrist, if that. Meanwhile abusers laugh off to their buddies that the abuse was worth it, their "gym got triggered" or "they just moved everything back and now we have a cluster". And all they get is a 30 ban from wayfarer (while still being able to nominate waypoints) or a warning. Direct evidence of multi accounting is ignored.
Now we get an announcement from @NianticTintino , saying invalid waypoint reporting in app will be nerfed... This just sounds backwards.
Coal is as bad as always, and now instead of dealing with 7 terrible nominations, we can potentially see 40 all at once, all because there is no accountability for terrible nominating, there is still no test for submitters, and even when they are punished, their nominations are not taken away.
@NianticCasey-ING (I know they're gone but they made the promises)@NianticTintino @NianticDanbocat @NIACHAOSMONKEY-ING @NianticKN-ING @NianticGiffard @NianticAaron @NianticAtlas @AnsonNIA-PGO , 222 days ago we were promised changes, changes that to this day have yet to be implemented. The queue is longer than ever, and aside from one week ago, nothing has been done to address it, yet reviewers will be getting more nominations in a couple of weeks without addressing the backlog or terrible nominations.
#NianticHearUs seems to be trending these days... Im sure others have their own frustrations to add to this.
Comments
The Wayfarer team is working on an educational campaign (an old tune, I know but I have seen them! This is coming!) to not only raise awareness of how to participate in Wayfarer but also details about what great places for exploration, exercise or to be social means.
We've seen 2 "info graphs" that look hastily thrown together without any real substance. Still wondering what Casey saw.
I feel misunderstood and misled by Niantic.
The latest Roadmap and Summer Lookback mentioned a lot of highly requested features but none have been implemented yet (other than a few bug fixes to Wayfarer 4.1). In the meantime, a feature not mentioned in the Roadmap or Summer Lookback is being implemented and fast tracked.
I wish Niantic would follow their own published updates when it comes to new features as they often promise things highly requested by the community.
It feels like they are putting things at the top of the list the are actually a few notches down for most of us
Niantic's priorities are currently completely backwards. No one should be getting additional nominations until submitters are better educated and prepared to submit, until the backlog can be appropriately handled by reviewers, and abuse-related procedures are improved:
Yes! Lately communication with Niantic has been a tad better, but still it seems like all the Wayfarer team is doing is fixing bugs they created. Meanwhile things like the backlog, and that directly affect the backlog go ignored and pushed back. Reviewing has taken the back burner for Niantic, their is nothing to incentivize reviewers in fact quite the opposite. They roll updates that break the greatest review tool there was that was Wayfarer+ (which lets face it, it was full of features that should be included in Wayfarer already). They also get us all hyped up and have us vote for a review challenge only to abruptly shut the door on us, why did we even vote?
Yeah except your nominations in St. Cloud also get removed just about as quick
What perfect timing to have it exactly at 222 days later. The satisfaction is real.
Yes I agree. One clearly ineligible wayspot and you should blanket reject all their nominations. Or real suspension of their game. Genius.
Do you review? We see people sending in nominations of their faces, blank photos, their bedrooms, their bathrooms, copy paste photos from the internet, etc. These are clearly ineligible, not fringe opinions. I would love to see anyone who submits one of these banned from ever submitting again. Or at least for a year, like resetting bonus location.
I cannot believe Niantic is giving people more nominations without addressing the backlog issues first. And requiring at least passing a test to show they have an idea about what is eligible. And we need more black and white, hard and fast rules on eligibility. And someone to ask who can answer when we disagree on what Niantic statements mean.
People absolutely need more than just a slap on the wrist for purposefully misplacing literal hundreds of wayspots just to get them to show up in Pokemon Go. Extremely irresponsible to give Pokemon Go players, who are notorious for abusing locations due to stricter location guidelines, more nominations without addressing this.
Actually, you’re right. I do not review.
I am sure that the reporting system, which will be released by the beginning of next month, will help you. There is a possibility that the release will be postponed again... No, let's not think about it.
Not to mention the disaster that was the Foursquare import, the internal reviews have been pretty bad, too.
This thread addresses two "high quality" candidates the Niantic Wayfarer team reviewed and accepted.
Both approved recently and neither appeared in Ingress - a familiar trend of Niantic approved Wayspots.
Edited to include the link that I forgot. I hope the mods appreciate having to see this a second time. Thank the bad system that Nia refuses to change on how posts with photos are reviewed.

I can't wait to see somebody be able to submit this not once, not twice, but 40 times.
Adding more nominations without doing anything to educate submitters just feels like more evidence that Niantic doesn't value our time. I want to review things submitted by people who know what they're doing and are trying to help their communities, not just be a filter for an endless stream of coal. Implement the submitter test now.
Infographics and guidelines are worthless if no one is reading them.
Not only that, but they expect to hold hostage any and all criteria updates to these semi annual AMA, only to probably scrub them in a few months, like last time, after nominations have been made & voted on.
I wonder how many pool submissions are still out there that have gone through...3 or 4 flip flops, now.
Changing how nominations without other necessary changes is going to put more burden on Wayfarer reviewers who already are doing a service by reviewing.
As of right now there is no complete "map" of waypoints that can be reviewed. Allowing users to bank up to 40 nominations without the ability to see what waypoints are already at the location spread between all the games and the lightship service, means more duplicates than ever.
Also, I review a lot, I can't tell you how many times I see a street sign for a road in a neighborhood, a stop sign, someones art on their house, or other lies at houses. Adding more nomination cap is only going to expand these problems. There is no real "punishment" for people abusing the system. At worst they lose wayfarer privileges which they weren't using anyways.
This isn't the time for these kinds of changes, there are many more pressing issues that need to be resolved. I get there are plenty of GOOD users running out of nominations, but really the system doesnt know between a good or bad user. So letting all users get easier access to more nominations and bank up to 40 nominations, is just going to bog/burden Wayfarer.
PLEASE DONT GIVE OUT MORE NOMINATIONS YET. Fix your promises first before making more changes.
I'm hoping the Sept. AMA answers the many questions about long queue times and plans to get more reviewers and getting them to review accurately.
If they aren't answered, or the answers are half measures or vague promises that are never followed through like what we got from previous AMAs, Wayfarer and Nominations are about to get a ton more frustrating.
it is still like it ever was.
Niantic isnt listening. They are doing THEIR thing because, well because they are the bozz!
Theres someone up high at Niantic that wants to have total control about everything.
They are doing their thing because no matter what, people keeps on reviewing.
let´s add another mechanism that keeps people submitting AR Scans
The St Cloud abuse report number 7 was handled very poorly. Not enough thought was put into the actual substance of the abuse, it is not rocket science to actually see the abuse happening in the first place.
I'm just kind of waiting for the AMAs to come out now. And then maybe I'll take a break.
"Very poorly" is an understatement.
I too am eager to see how they will respond to my AMA question about abuse given that it was the 4th most voted question. Perhaps for once we might see some real changes, but the latest action in regards to St. Cloud makes me highly skeptical as to whether they will truly take action.
