<No description> nominations

Why do you force adding a description to the nomination if according to the regulations the description is not required? I would like to make no description nominations, but at the moment it cannot be removed in wayfarer

Just out of curiosity: why do you want "no description" nominations?
@Nadiwereb-PGO Because it is not required and sometimes the descriptions are meaningless
It feels like it is required now if you are unable to edit the description out.
I understand we shouldn’t mark down stars if we review a nomination with no description because it wasn’t always required but it appears Niantic has changed the requirement for new nominations.
Noantics failed to change their text, however. It still says ‘not required’ in the apps, and now it’s been made a required field….
In what app and where does it show “not required”?
In Pokémon Go! As recently as two days ago, the description claimed to be not required, though the form had an asterisk indicating it was a required field.
I used to report this kind of thing, but these products are so full of them it hardly seems worthwhile.
I just tried it and it doesn't say that anymore. I can't remember if it did two days ago, though, I haven't paid attention to the wording for quite some time.
I submitted something in ingress last week, it was there, but I just checked and now it is gone.
I have a comment with photos showing the same coming but yeah, what those two said.
I just checked my pogo and ingress, I cannot see where it says the description is not required. Is this the place you are referring to?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but nowhere on the submission side am I seeing that a description is not required, merely on the reviewing side. As a description was not always required, it would be unfair to suddenly say that a nomination without a description should be denied, and I see no problem with them adding it as a soft requirement on the submission side of things without making it a rejection reason.
Also, love this incorrect gem on the help site for submitting PokéStops.
I haven’t looked at those in forever, until today when I was looking for the “not required” description. I wonder if this is newer wording for the upcoming duplicate check coming.
It's been since 2020.

Ugh lame. I don’t know why I still have hope.
There are certain characters within Unicode that allow one to have a pseudo "no description" nomination. I've had plenty of nominations accepted without descriptions, in particular exercise equipment and playgrounds. In those instances, the description would literally just be repeating the title and/or stating the obvious so I don't see a need for one. For a lot of nominations a good description really does help yet one is not always needed for a nomination to be accepted.
Agreed. If you want "no description", you'll have to edit your nomination(s) via the Wayfarer website. Previously, I was able to edit out descriptions on the website itself, but they changed that with the summer Wayfarer update. Therefore, as I stated before, there are certain characters in the Unicode character table that allow you to have a nomination with "no description".
If that doesn't say "put the pin far enough away from an existing POI so your one will appear in game, we don't really care about it being accurately located on the actual POI", I don't know what does.

@AScarletSabre-PGO Give me this characters in the Unicode character table
Oh I agree certain nominations don’t need descriptions, mainly churches come to mind. I’ve reviewed way too many edits adding “Place of worship” as the description to a church.
It definitely feels like Niantic wants them now though because like you said, you used to be able to edit them out and now you can’t.
Oh yep, I see it! There are definitely inconsistencies across the platform then.
