Helping the community with a fun poke stop

Hi everyone I’ve just built this for my kids I would like to put it next door in a local park and make it a pokestop what are my chances?

Low, it looks pretty unpermanent.
what if it was concreted into the ground?
It would probably be regarded as a game specific item and get rejected. Remember that these Wayspots will be used for more than just Pokemon Go.
It -is- debatable however - there's nothing wrong with creating your own art and put it in the game, and this life-size pokestop looks pretty good I must say. The problem with these things is that they are not permanent (if they are, they're on private residential grounds and if they are on public space, it's almost never with proper permissions, which makes them likely to be removed). If you want this to be permanent on public space, it will always have to be with the permission of the city (usually) and even then they will probably be regarded temporary by reviewers.
But a fine piece of craftmanship, if you made this yourself, kudos :) But think about it: if it was that easy to get a real life pokestop like this anywhere you wanted, the world would become littered with these things.
No, ingame references only count if you would name somethong that is not from the game after something from a game (e.g. naming a random Dragon Dragonite, or a big cubic sculpture Power Cube). So this would be totally okay since the object is game-based.
OK, it was an old rule, but I checked the criteria and indeed there's nothing in there now against these game specifics as objects.
Then the challenge for this one would be to get a public and accessible space for it (with permission and maybe a small local newspaper article to prove it's permanent), some new Maps/Streetview data and make sure it's visibly anchored to the ground.
I'm not a Pokemon player, but I like this one very much.
None as it is clearly temporary. I generally have a sour opinon of those who purposely "create pokestops" rather than go out into their communities and fix existing places and object.
what’s wrong with creating stops when there aren’t many in my area especially not around where I live.
Ah - the old "stop spoiling the game for everyone" attitude.
There is no "right" for anyone to have a Portal / Stop / Inn / Gym next to their house, but certainly within parts of the game playing community there is an "expectation" that they should have them available and it is "unfair" or unreasonable to expect players to walk more then 5 minutes to get to a POI. Exploration anyone?
If I saw this I would reject it as a "fake stop" / temporary / does not meet criteria" nomination. Nothing annoys regular reviewers more than comments like "not many stops in this area". Find something in your local area that does meet the Niantic criteria and submit that. Failing that - walk.
Seeeettle down bud haha I’m not taking about a bull **** fake stop I’m talking about creating something interesting and fun, I would concrete this into the ground and maybe even add some sort of street library onto it with some Pokémon art.
This would probably get rejected for temporary, or it might get removed by the town/city you live in if you put it in one of there parks.
@OmgMyNameDidfit-PGO That would bring us back to my earlier question: where would you put it? Is there any city that would allow these? Given the popularity of the game, I'd think they would think twice about this, as these would then be popping up all over the world.
One of Ingress' glyph/word codes in its minigame is: "CREATE NEW PORTAL POTENTIAL". There's nothing wrong with neighborhood beautification in the form of murals or artwork, free libraries or community gardens; even if initiated by a gamer who wants to also turn it into a Wayspot. If it's permanent and accepted by the local community (including the institution who regulates the use of public land, like the city or county) I only see a win-win situation here.
This opposed to people who put their artwork (or plastic garden shop stuff) in their front lawn and want to have "their" portal/stop/whatever.
In order for your project to succeed, I would advise on dropping the whole 'Pokemon' theme in your Wayspot and try and look for something your neighborhood really needs or wants. Is it devoid of art? Issue a survey among residents, see if there's support for a statue or artwork. Is there some history that needs to be told? Petition city council for a (or a series of) historic signs or photographs. Reach out to local artists who have previously done these things for the city.
You would be helping the community, not "helping the community with a stop". Win-Win.
If you had permission to permanently ground it into a public space with proper pedestrian access and away from any private residence, this would probably get approved.
If it were permanently attached to the ground and the description/title were properly phrased, I'd definitely approve it. It's certainly better than a lot of artsy bicycle racks that make it through! Nice work, BTW.
I don’t know about where you are but we can’t go around pouring some concrete into parcs to slap some random shiz on :-/
Personally, if you could get this approved by the city and install in permanently, yeah this could be some cool art! But if you can’t J would say this would be a 1*. Good job on the creation though!
This kind of gate-keeping is exactly why Wayfarer has a toxic reputation.
yeah I 100% agree with you
That said, if you do plan on installing this in a park you need to make sure you can get official approval. If you have permission to put it there than it's a great candidate. If not it's back to the drawing board, unfortunately. 😞
If you can assure that Pokestop will be 'acceptable' for the locals in the park without it being removed later or even vandalized, then sure it would get approved.
I mean, if that Cowboy Hat Caterpie mural is already a Pokestop then why not this one?
Agreed - if we're going to be working with park officials to install permanent objects, why not help out with an Eagle Scout project, fund a Little Free Library, or sponsor some non-game-specific public art? The point of the POI's in the database, as I understand them, if to highlight those spots that are interesting for the community at large - not just players of one particular game.
Placing an object like this in a park, anchored with cement, without official approval will get you a hefty fine around here. It's vandalism - we had a local guy who "improved" some trails in a county park near me, and I believe he might have been awarded some community service in lieu of jail time. Some parks departments may be concerned that the Pokestop imagery may be someone else's intellectual property, too, and prefer to use more original forms of art by local artists in any public display.
Some cities have actually embraced Pokemon Go as a way for people to get out and do things in the city. I see zero issue in anyone trying to get some kind of permanent art or improvement in their community, even if it is Pokemon related. That just makes it unique and fun.
Depending on how big your city is and the rules they have, it might be a process to make something permanent happen. If that's what you want to try doing, I say go for it! That stop looks great. Adding a library and some other things could help a lot. If you're not successful with the city accepting the stop sculpture, maybe an LFL would work.
Unlike what some people think and claim, sometimes existing POIs are too few or way too far away to be reasonable for gameplay. And there's nothing wrong with trying to improve a virtual game landscape, anyway. If nothing is there and you can make something legitimate, that's really awesome.
Just remember that your POI descriptions and supporting info need to defend the POI based on its own merit. Don't say anything about needing more stops, because some people are salty enough to wrongly reject your submission even if the description and POI are otherwise solid and say nothing about them.
>>" why not help out with an Eagle Scout project"
95% of the Eagle Scout projects I've seen are not eligible. YMMV.
There was another thread I saw this week of a cement pedestal with pokeball on it. Painted very nice and permanently placed in cement pad in public area of a community.. The person was upset it kept getting rejected. That threads consensus was that it was an instant 1* because it was a game reference.
This thread contradicts it, example how much opinions vary. Varying opinions is why people are told just keep resubmiting until you get the right set of reviewers to approve.
If it was a bird or other animal on the cement pedestal I would think it eligible.
If you could get permission from your local council to install it somewhere, then that would be fine. If you illegally install it, then it would most likely be rejected because your local Council would more than likely remove it themselves
That thread would be wrong then. Game reference is if the poi has nothing g to do with a game. For example, if there was a statue of a dragon, and the submitter said something polemon released like rayquaza, reject. But if it was a statue of rayquaza, then its acceptable to say rayquaza. So a pokeball on a pedestal, that's fine to say pokeball (though if they mentions the game mechanics of pokemon go, could see an argument against it)
Well, this looks familiar...
It is clearly not concreted to the ground as stated in the supporting information, and including cOdenaMe referencinG in the description is already a 1 star rejection reason.
I hope you reported for abuse.
Lmao just came here for advise on how best to fake it and deceive reviewers.
everyone: make sure it’s permanent, with permission, fixed in place, etc
this guy: ‘THis COncrEted inTo thE grOunD Y’alL!!!11’
Slapped it on the grass. made some pics. took back home.
Now this discussion is already pointless.
I’m pretty sure I saw this on Sydney pogo recently. Not sure if you ‘built’ this for your kids
damn!!! LET ME LIVE lol. I’m going to buy a street library and that should get accepted yeah?
