St. Sulpice Church got retired because of fire?

St. Sulpice Church, the second largest church in France, caught fire last year. It’s been temporarily shut down. Is it true that its Wayspot has been retired due to this incident?

If the building remains is still there, and local government are going to reconstruct it, then it's still valid POI.
But if the government decide to demolish it instead, then wait until it's completely demolished and submit POI removal.
A friend of mine told me that he was told by a person who works at Niantic that if a POI is under reconstruction/temporarily shut down, its Wayspot should be removed.
Who told your friend about that? Niantic doesn't give any official statement that a POI under reconstruction or temporarily shut down should be removed.
@patsufredo-PGO I can’t name the Niantic person. It violates the rule. I will be punished or something.
Seems like a stupid rule, especially given that many countries are in lock down, which means some of the wayspots will be "temporarily shut down" in real life, and should be removed now.
If somewhere is temporarily shut down, it's not grounds for removal. Many places shut down temporarily, be it for a holiday or a refurbishment or whatever else. Can you imagine how many wayspots would be removed and resubmitted every time they shut down for a period of time?
So, either you or your friend made it up then.
@NicoSolheim-ING I’m telling the truth. If you don’t believe it, that’s fine. But you can’t say I made it up. I think you should respect everyone who asks questions here.
I also think the rule is stupid. This is why I chose to ask here, seeking advice from experienced players/even an official written answer from Niantic.
Some Wayspots have been removed in my area. And the one who works at Niantic told us that they had to be removed because of temporarily shutting down.
The fact that you said "I can't say because I'll be punished" or something to that effect is going to raise suspicions.
For all we know, it's an attempt to troll others on these forums, as certain users have attempted to in the past.
Whilst it may be true, without evidence that an actual Niantic employee said they should be removed if they're shut down temporarily, then people will find it hard to believe.
@NicoSolheim-ING Oh, I’m sorry. I just read Community Guidelines again. They just say “Never expose players’ identities”. Is it really ok if I actually reveal the staff’s name here to prove that I’m telling the truth? Or should I just send you a private message instead?
You could state which staff member it was either here or in a private message but again, without evidence it will raise suspicion.
I could easily say I'm in direct contact with one of the guys that works on Pokémon Go and know what new features are coming next, but without evidence, I wouldn't expect anyone to believe.
But going back to the original point, having a wayspot removed because it's temporarily shut down is a silly idea. In the UK alone, it would mean having various pubs, art galleries, and so on removed since they're all shut down at present due to the lockdown. Now, put that on a global scale with the number of countries that are in lockdown of some description, and suddenly that's a whole new quantity of removal requests, which I'm doubtful Niantic would want to deal with.
@NicoSolheim-ING I’m send you a private message.
@NicoSolheim-ING I just realise there is no private message here. Anyhow, the staff that told us that was a, I think, one of the Niantic Managers. This is all I can tell. I know the name but I don’t want to say it publicly.
Shutdown due to fire? It doesn't seem so: https://en.parisinfo.com/paris-museum-monument/93215/Eglise-Saint-Sulpice
And the portal it's there, so whoever told you so, they aren't telling the truth: https://intel.ingress.com/?ll=48.851017,2.334195&z=19
Niantic wouldn't be telling Wayfarer rules in confidence. So I'm going to call BS on all that you say. Unless you can directly cite a post from a Niantic staff member, like @NianticCasey-ING, or can quote a portion of the Wayfarer help pages, then I'm not incline to believe you over a "secret rule" and instead, belive that you are deliberately spreading misinformation to sow confusion.
@TheFarix-PGO As I said I believe the reconstructing-site-should-be-remove-from-Niantic-games rule is absurd. If your opinions are right, it’s clear that the Niantic person in question has made a mistake. I doubted what this person said, this is why I asked a question here. I’m not trying to spread misinformation.
I’m not gonna reveal that person’s name here, not because I don’t have the guts, but because this person will be in trouble if I do.
I just want an answer. I don’t want to hurt anyone.
You don’t have to believe me. It’s your choice.
@WheelTrekker-ING Thank you. You are awesome!
Hey folks,
The answer here, like in many cases, is that it depends:
Hope that helps!
