Upgrade is totally useless!

WHY is it that EVERY single one of the "Upgraded" suggestions get rejected?
But as soon as its uploaded and not have upgrade next on it, it gets approved?
Totally usless to use the upgrade option!

You could show us your upgraded submissions and we maybe could tell you why.
ftzzghzuhdidu-ING It doesn't matter what they are, they have all been approved when not being upgraded.
Same title, discription, photoview etc etc.
The upgrade funktion is totally usless, end of story.
It depends where you are - for me and many other players, upgrades are the only way I get a decision.
Everything else has been in voting/queue for months/years, but upgrades get a decision within 2 days, and most are accepted
Well, it's quite obvious: Non-upgraded subs get reviewed by locals, and Upgrades only extend the reach that your submission will be reviewed by.
Now, why you would WANT non-locals to review your local stuff is beyond me. Upgrades are effectively a trap card unless your sub is a surefire one (Church/Playground). Does Niantic care? No.
The best part is, since Upgrades are literally useless except in very niche cases, you can safely stop reviewing to stop getting them. That has a double positive impact: You reduce your load of UNPAID labor, while also not sabotaging your own submissions. Seems like a win-win.
Upgrades are quite useful in my general-use situation. I see multiple communities have more of an "everything marginal passes anyway because we need more POI on our game map" mentality, which can get some non-reviewing locals accustomed to easy acceptances. The wider audience viewing Upgraded nominations may actually be more accurate in their reviews. If we don't know the details of the nomination, it's hard to tell what happened, but I'll never accept the "upgrades are useless" argument as a whole because they work well for so many people who cannot otherwise get a decision on their waypoints.
Their usefulness is limited to a few niche cases (lack of local reviewers, faster decisions on some surefire submissions). So, while they are not 100% useless, they are MOSTLY useless.
"Niche" cases are more likely those like the one above, where an upgrade decreases the chance of acceptance because local reviewers accept at a rapid pace. That situation does not apply to all, and without some hard statistics you will not convince many people otherwise. Since none of us are privy to global acceptance/rejection statistics of upgraded vs. non-upgraded candidates, your claim is not convincing.
I'm not trying to convince anyone. What i said is absolutely true. Whether people believe it or not isn't my concern.
I could list pretty much all of the possibilities on submissions, but again, i'm not trying to convert anyone, i don't work in a church nor do i promote MLMs/Pyramid Schemes.
The fact still remains: Applying upgrades to only-locally relevant submissions will most likely increase your chances of it being rejected. Applying Upgrades to surefire candidates like Churches will increase the speed at which it is accepted.
My last 25 ungraded nominations have been approved, so I’m gonna take a hard line here that you’re wrong.
You do understand that what you said doesn't disprove my point right?
I'm curious what sort of candidates are "only-locally relevant", and what criteria they meet. I generally feel comfortable upgrading any of my submissions in queue, as they have strong supporting detail suitable for a wider audience.
You do understand I was talking to the OP, right?
Counterpoint:
Last time I checked, I had almost exactly the same acceptance rate for upgraded and non-upgraded submissions. I'm in the US, which might well matter, but my "local" area, like everybody's is large, and I have zero familiarity with most of it. I can relate to most things from California as well as I can to things 50 miles away in rural Pennsylvania. A tiny minority of submissions that I see are things like local businesses in my city, where being a true local can help.
I imagine the situation might be different in places like Europe, where upgrading something might make it more likely that reviewers from a different country and/or who speak a different language see it.
There is a tendency of some local players to accept everything, as long as it gets them more to play. That attitude doesn't make upgrades useless at all. It's more like a pull-back into reality. Meaning, what you believe is a valid poi, does not have to be one, even if your locals might accept trash cans to have more to play. Upgrades will be troublesome for niche submissions, but for the rest it works out rather well. I am inclined to believe the problem might be your submissions, since you don't want to show us anything.
You got me! Only my last 22 upgrades were approved.
The 23rd was in a big field divided into many soccer fields... apparently I nominated one sub-field too many, lol.
Then I have another 19 upgrades approved in a row. That streak was broken by a tennis court that I guess the picture was too much of the fence between the parking lot and the court.
IOW: like other nominators, I have VERY good luck with upgrades. Then again, I nominate things that are good, not depending on locals to just approve everything.
I'm on 36 consecutive accepted upgrades currently. As a relative newcomer to reviewing, I have earned only 96 upgrades - with 81 of those being accepted. Of the 15 rejections, there were only six I'd classify as truly great candidates: three of those have been resubmitted and accepted after some improvements, one is on another continent submitted during vacation, and the other two I've had no luck on even locally. I'm in the US, though, so do not generally have language barriers come into play.
I've had a few upgrades rejected, but most accepted. Most of the rejected ones are actually the same nomination that I've resubmitted a few times. I don't try to upgrade that specific nomination, it just happens to get upgraded occasionally. I have similar luck with it when it isn't upgraded either though, so I don't put it down to the fact it's upgraded. It's just a really tough nomination to convince reviewers that it is in fact perfectly worthy of being a wayspot.
Overall though, I don't think upgrades are detrimental to my nominations.
Upgrades are useless if you waste them. ^^ And are bad for legit local submissions as well.
I checked on my last week, and for my first 30 verification of each day, in have a 91% rejection rate.
These are just submissions from all over the country and basically just trash.. It need a lot of dedication to go over these and reach the point where I can find local long-waiting good (or bad) submissions.
Do you have the same experience in other places ?
Upgrades have been great to get my surefire nominations through quickly.
The ones that I think need more local eyes to get through I leave to the slow vote. Like you I have been disappointed by having some nominations go thought upgrade and letting city people used to shiny things review my rural nominations. I have a few nominations that I'm not worried about (because they are too close to current wayspots for example) that I can upgrade in a pinch if I'm close to an upgrade.
