Gym not accepted

I'm used to nominations being rejected for stupid reasons, and when I got the rejection email for this one I fully expected it to be for photo quality. However instead it was just the following "This nomination has been rejected due to the following reason(s):

Nomination does not meet acceptance criteria."

I need clarification because I assumed a gym would be eligible in that it is a great place for exercise and this one in particular is also good for socialising with others. Am I wrong in that assumption?

Is this breaking a rule i wasn't aware of? Is it worth trying to nominate again?

Hi, it seems a good and valid nomination, but as a business it will take time to get it approved.

As you said, you can retry with better pictures.

The problem here is this rejection reason:

    • A generic business, chain, or franchise that is not locally unique

You need a good description to show reviewers it doesn't fall in this rejection criteria.

Businesses are tough sells, even when they are within criteria. Places such as gyms or dance studios that are great places to exercise, places such as restaurants or coffee shops that are great places to socialize, even businesses such as escape rooms that are great place to explore can be difficult to get through review due to lingering sentiment that businesses can or should pay Niantic for sponsored locations if they want inclusion in the game.

So, if you want a nomination like this one to get through approval, you often need everything as good as you can get it: Image, description, supplementary information. Include links to any awards they’ve won, events they’ve sponsored or hosted, etc; make the case they’re more than a workout center, but a part of the community.

    Good luck.

I personally when I see a gym nomination because it obviously meets criteria. I don’t consider them generic business’ unless its a chain and theres a ton around them like a planet fitness, goodlife, fit 4 less.

Id also say that because this is a gym entirely made for females it is not a generic gym. Its unique in the fact its woman only. In the information id go on to talk about how a female gym is a safe place for females to have a healthier lifestyle without having to worry about unwanted staring/comments from the opposite sex and how this would be culturally significant.

Huge supporter of anything fitness related and I’d give it 5’s across the board as it meets every check in the box for it to be a poi

Just because it’s eligible doesn’t automatically make it acceptable. You still have to “sell” your nomination.

Why is it a point of interest? What makes it unique or stand out?

Gyms would meet the exercise criteria by default, chain or no chain. You'd still need to defend it and put in decent supporting info just in case. I would easily approve this just based on what you have. But you're facing people who are pickier and don't have the best grasp of the criteria.

Many aspects of the criteria are deliberately subjective. There is nothing that states that reviewers must accept every X, whether X is a gym or a trail marker or a soccer field. Using this forum to point fingers at commenters for exercising their subjective authority and giving you honest feedback - feedback you requested - about how they would do so will get you nothing but resentment. Your nomination votes will not improve by a single star, because your reviewers are not in this forum. Just hit the Disagree and go to the next comment.

Congratulations on your nomination approval, I hope it makes AR gaming better for everyone in that area.

Sounds like the kind of place women wouldn't want a whole lot of men loitering outside of on their phones

So are you saying its only men that play Niantic's games or that women that frequent such a location shouldn't play Niantic games? Because either way that's some odd opinions you have there

I get that a lot is subjective but I was commenting on the statement that its a generic business which is factually wrong, nothing subjective about that, and just shows a lack of understanding/knowledge that so many reviewers happen to share.

If they are uncomfortable, management can request removal from Niantic's database. You're projecting an opinion that is unnecessary in eligibility.

Personally, I think gyms should be acceptable, generic or not, they encourage exercise and socialising, thats 2 criteria met with ease. And generic businesses have been accepted before, such as weatheespoons in the UK are all seen as acceptable because the socialising aspect

Maybe chain ones should be looked more carefully at, depending on what's in the area or even where it is, for example, in the middle of a city center, chain ones might get lower scores as there will be more about, but in sub urban and remote/rural areas they can be marked high as they will most likely be the only gym nearby
