Attempts at a fake wayspot (again)
NorthSeaPoet-ING Posts: 895 ✭✭✭✭✭
Linking back to this thread, it appears that the player that did Shiny Rayquaza fake wayspot is trying again
The location is the same as the Shiny Rayquaza fake wayspot that was previously removed and the photosphere belongs to the same individual. I only became sus because the paintwork doesn't look properly done.
That's when I noticed the wall next to it was the same as the one from the aforementioned fake wayspot.
I have concerns that if this is approved, it means other players will make attempts at more fake wayspots.

If there was still the “PokéStop at my house” thread this would go there for sure.
Pokémon GO already has extra distance compared to Niantic’s other games and it’s meant to be about finding great places to explore, not just spinning a stop from your sofa.
@NianticGiffard , you mentioned action was taken last time. Can you take sterner action and also see if the submitter has more than one account that they’ve used? I would hope the initial account has had at least a 30 day ban from submissions.
This seems to be a recurring theme in the local community. As mentioned, this is not the first time this player has attempted this.
Another Wayfinder has done similar, submitting a Queen Elizabeth the 2nd Postbox, which is mass produced and therefore generic, dressed up as a King George Postbox, using a photo of a nearby King George Postbox, which is also in the system to sway reviewers to accept the submission. A new image was then uploaded by the same Wayfinder and the faked image removed, coupled with a title and description edit to make it what it currently stands as. Photos enclosed of original view portal, current view and Wayspot image was stolen from.
As well as this, another Wayspot has previously been removed by the owners request, as it is not legal or safe to land on the island on which the Wayspot. An appeal on the old Ingress forums was rejected.
Said Wayspot has since been resubmitted against the owner's wishes by the same Wayfinder who submitted the appeal and since visited this Wayspot along with another account despite it not being legal or safe to do so. Link for Wayspot coordinates is: https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=54.701125,-5.515426&z=14&pll=54.698602,-5.513563 and correspondence from the owners is attached below.
As mentioned, this is abuse to submit both of these due to not existing and being removed due to the owner's wishes, can actions be taken against these Wayfinders as well as against said Wayspots, please, @NianticAaron @NianticGiffard?
Error. Double post
Just a comment to link the two threads together for anyone who hasn’t seen.
Just adding some more evidence to this thread - Here is the 2 sphere's side-by-side of the old shiny ray, and this now: https://i.imgur.com/gfg5EHX.jpg - The whole thing has been done with a stencil, you can see where the spray-paint has run and smudged in some areas, meaning this exact thing can be duplicated and replicated elsewhere, probably just far enough away to avoid being seen on the nearby to prevent people duping it, as this one will also probably get through - Here's the link to his Google sphere for this submission if people want to go mass-report it to Google as fake https://goo.gl/maps/CerFnP8BUXCy9GZQ8
From what I've been told, (whether true or false who knows) the original submitter, and the locals are multi-account upvoting it, since Niantic's anti-abuse is basically non-existent (hello St. Clouds) - The people engaged in this behavior wont stop just because they got a gentle slap on the wrist, or a weak worded warning, account bans are the only way to stop this Niantic, stop being blinded by dollar signs from the pogo'ers and start banning the accounts, that's the only way these people will listen.
This Austin Brown guy has also been responsible for putting the pogo team logo's and Ingress team logos on random electrical boxes, here's one I managed to find from our UK archive, same area, with a Res logo - https://i.imgur.com/IHiFbjq.jpg - and just for fun, here's his sphere of his Instinct logo if people want to go mass-report this too https://goo.gl/maps/p6oPiNFQp4CK7ekC8
Have fun :)
Niantic: Insufficient evidence. 😆
Just so Niantic are super clear, this is very blatant nomination abuse from a street that has previously used the exact same electrical box, but with other art. There was an attempt before the Shiny Rayquaza, which was submitted at least 3 times, of Ingress Faction logos, so by my count, there have been at least 5 abusive nominations done on the exact same electrical box.
1x Ingress Factions
3x Shiny Rayquaza
1x this spray paint job on the box currently in voting
It would be great if Niantic could do something about this, because clearly this is going to keep happening and the individual abusing the system hasn’t learnt from last time.
Cheers for the additional info
Niantic really needs a tool to block out the location, maybe a 10 meter diameter circle that tags an area of chronic and blatant abuse and makes future submissions there impossible.
I think they've done something like that with an area in London but the UK reviewers that have been at it longer than me will know more about that since it happened in the OPR days apparently
Thanks for the report, @NorthSeaPoet-ING! We have reviewed the report and have taken action on the Wayfinders in accordance with our policies. While we are unable to discuss our actions in detail to protect the submitter’s privacy, they may include, but are not limited to, sending a warning message, placing restrictions on their Wayfarer, Pokémon GO, or Ingress account, putting their account on probation, or placing a temporary or permanent suspension on their Wayfarer, Pokémon GO or Ingress account. Thanks for helping us maintain the quality of the Wayspots.
Hello friends. Just saying hello and having a good laugh at your comments on this POI. I have to admit I did try to pull a fly one with the first attempt at Rayquaza, but I must take issue with the comments on the new nomination. Just because the first nomination was invalid, why would all further nominations be invalid. I spent time, effort and cash trying to brighten up my local area by painting this box in celebration of County Tyrone winning the All Ireland finals. I was until this last month an active reviewer on Wayfarer with over 3500 agreements and great rating. I have passed loads of similar POIs and actually got the idea when in Galway which has hundreds of them. I am not an artist by any stretch and although crude is still something out of the ordinary and in my opinion a decent attempt. The argument that it can be replicated as is a stencil is just silly as you should be looking for duplicates in area stencil or not. Can't wait to hear all your constructive thoughts. Thanks in advance
Well, since you've already admitted you pulled a fast one with the Rayquaza, I think it's fair to say that you would be pulling a fast one with this one. Especially since you've admitted that you painted it yourself. Do you have permission to paint that junction box from the company that owns it? As I said in my original post, the artwork doesn't look properly done - I never stated a stencil myself - which is why I was suspect of it in the first place.
As Nico (Northsea) said, do you have permission to paint it?
My stance on it is this: you pulled a fake and one of our NI contact informed us in a TG chat about it, several of us reported it here as fake and reported your google sphere as fake so google took them down, your sub was removed.
Next you opted for something less fake, but given you pulled a fake, it puts doubt and trust issues in you as a submitter, and your entire area where you live, since we now have your address of where your fake sub is (was), we can put that into Ingress Intel and we can monitor anything we see from you - either in review, or on the Intel map and bring light to them here if needs be - and we have several contacts in NI who we can reach out to and send "boots on the ground" to investigate if something is genuinely real or not to report back to the UK group chat.
Secondly, my issue isn't that it's a stencil, I'm happy to approve stencil artwork and I can genuinely really like something if done correctly, however my issue is - you pulled a fake, and now you've opted for stencil stuff, I can't trust that you wont just move the stencil and replicate the same artwork elsewhere, far enough away that it doesn't appear on the nearby/duplicate list, and the stencil suddenly becomes something that you (and your fudgey locals) can use to make your own home stop, which we wont allow.
Remember, we are watching your area closely now.
I think @NorthSeaPoet-ING & @Belahzur-ING have the community view covered so I’m curious as to what action Niantic took against your account(s?) if any as claimed.
Great to have such quick replies. Where in criteria does it say that for a POI that the nominator has to find out if the person who created a POI had permission to do so. Also again with the stencil. No where is the use of stencils against terms. To imply that I would use the stencil elsewhere is jumping to conclusions. You can't say it might happen so I am denying this POI. Please send one of your "boots on the ground" to see this POI. I would be delighted to give them a cuppa, and chat about the valuable contribution that we make to the community. I take real offence calling local people fudgey. Any nomination I put in takes weeks to get reviewed. Very few people in my area review. I am delighted that my area is going to be watched closely now, as if I do decide to start reviewing/nominating again it might quicken up the review process. I admit that I went outside the rules in the first instance. Definitely a bit too far, but can I not learn from that. This is now a genuine POI and to state it isn't because I digressed in the past seems unfair. And go
“Haha guys I tried to pull a fast one and blatantly abused the system, but you should totally trust me, this one is totally real and not at all fake”
Oh no. Weeks for review. How bad for you. Where’s @Qwizical-ING ? Do you want to say how long you’ve been waiting for your nominations?
I think you have completely missed the point that after trying to fake the rayquaza as well as the previous Ingress team logo imagery that was submitted on the same junction box in the same area, reviewers remember them and do not trust that the submissions are genuine.
You could go all out to create a fab piece of artwork there, with permission and support from the owner, but at the end of the day you have made people suspicious of submissions in the area.
It is really easy to lose people's trust. Very difficult to regain it, especially when the vast majority of reviewers probably won't see any of what you have said about admitting that the Rayquaza was wrong.
I mean, it's just common sense that if you're going to paint over something, you gain permission first because otherwise it's graffiti and vandalism, which is illegal.
No one is saying you can't learn from past mistakes but since you already gave us reason to distrust, we're hardly going to pat you on the back and tell you how good you're being now, especially since it sounds like you didn't gain permission and have basically vandalised property to get another wayspot.
I never said stencil art isn't criteria. However, your past actions make you untrustworthy and telling us about how it's legitimate because you painted it make the area more colourful doesn't help your cause.
Other graffiti wayspots doesn't mean that they're automatically acceptable. Especially if they're done without the permission of whoever owns what they're on. Without the owner's permission, it's temporary at best.
If there was evidence that it's legitimately done, and not just attempt at a home wayspot, then I wouldn't have an issue accepting it. However, as I and others have stated, your past actions make us suspicious of it.
Often graffiti can be commissioned by companies or councils from talented artists.
Putting a stencil spray on an object without permission does not suddenly make the item a great place to be social with others, a great place for exercise or a great place for exploration.
But if you want the community to keep having easy coal rejects and earning more agreements, then fine.
Easy 1* and move on.
‘I can’t believe people don’t think it’s hilarious the way I’ve proven myself a liar and a cheater, and also now a vandal. You people should not only be laughing with me about my moral compass that points only to my own interests, but you should be encouraging more illegal activity like mine!’
LMAO imagine playing the victim when you openly admitted to abusing the system, couldn’t be me
”guys why are you all so mean? All I said was I cheated the system by creating a fake POI, and refusing to acknowledge nobody will trust my submissions because I’ve openly admitted to abusing the system! It’s all of your fault for not understanding the criteria, because I, supreme overlord of Wayfarer, clearly understand it better than all of you! Just let me create fake POI so I can continue sending abusive nominations, I just want a fake POI at my house! I don’t understand why you don’t all trust me, I’m a totally honest and upstanding guy!”
-you, more or less
Pretty sexist of you to assume only girls knit. Bye bye.
@NianticGiffard Care to weigh in, or prolong any bans in progress? This person is very much acting against the aims of Wayfarer.
Bro stop talking, every time you open your mouth you end up admitting to something, last time you opened your mouth you admitted to cheating the system, and now you’ve opened your mouth admitting to being a sexist
have you considered just not speaking, like at all?
to quote Austin because I genuinely think triggering him is extremely amusing:
”Can't wait to hear all your constructive thoughts. Thanks in advance”
You’ve had plenty constructive criticism in this thread, you just refuse to listen to it, instead you’re so insecure that you attack literally everyone who chimes in this thread pointing out that you’ve freely admitted to cheating the system, that nobody can trust you, that you’ve actually committed a crime by vandalising property that doesn’t belong to you, and stencil art isn’t an automatically accepted point of interest anyway. Instead of listening you are attacking everyone, screeching, and are triggered so easily that folk could easily mistake you for a regular Twitter user.
You need to accept that nobody needs to accept your submissions, and nobody needs to accept your abuse, attitude, or clear disrespect of wayfarer as a whole. You also need to accept that you’re an actual joke and I’m going to keep dunking on you.
If you don't have permission, then it's likely going to be temporary, which is a rejection criteria. I've known the companies who own these boxes to paint over things that they didn't give permission for, and also to issue the costs for the cover up work to the vandal if they find out who did it (good job on making yourself known, as it's now easier for them to track you down and send you the bill).
Wait, I thought you left and were done with Wayfarer? Did you decide you had to get in one last word?
