Wayfarer is you working for free to add locations to Lightship and then each game that remains alive might choose which ones of those locations they want to use. So if one game now had a hiccup and added a bunch of PoI that breaks their spacing rules, that's up to that game.
And I'm still not sold on this being a good thing. A L14 cell near me had three waypoints, two at a church (one gym, one pokestop) and another at a different church entrance way down the road. Now the church with the gym is the church with two gyms, and the nearest task or rocket grunt is a long long walk down the road.
If they remove the cell limits then yes, keep some form radial restriction around individual Wayspots. If not, read my comment here about 20m restriction:
I totally get what your saying, and i agree, keep some sort of radial distance, I know of at least four points of interest that would pop into pgo if this was to happen. We will see if there is any good change after the maintenance but I am not holding my breath. Although with Wizards going dark in January, it does make me wonder if they will bring over some of visual attributes into pgo. just a pipe dream, but one can only and always dream right?
I have always hoped that the not visible portals would eventually spawn and be neither a gym or a stop but some kind of new feature!
Something like you leave your pokemon there and for hours or untill you don't walk an X amount of steps/km and it gives you rewards (no idea what, but at least those POIs can be used lol)
And the Pikmin Bloom flower/planting seeds idea really would work just ok for PoGO.
I understand that Pokémon Gyms are very interesting for Pokémon GO players.
But, this is not a community forum to discuss Pokémon GO gyms either.
So, it's also not the right place to ask Wayfarer and Lightship team about a specific game.
Unfortunately, Pokémon GO doesn't have its own community forum yet, so the most appropriate thing to do would be for Pokémon GO players to contact the help page or check with the director of the Pokémon GO team at Niantic (Michael Steranka, etc) via SNS.
To claim it's a bug would they necessarily have to acknowledge the algorithm that placed the "non-buggy" ones there? A lot of players aren't just going to accept their new gyms and Pokestops have been removed without any explanation. Niantic is going to have a lot of angry customers if it does not engage in a good faith discussion regarding these new Wayspots appearing in Pokemon GO.
If it's a bug, it's a bug. If it gets rolled back to "pre-surprise bonus stops" then so be it. Not a problem, despite the fact some players may "not accept it". They can always give up playing PoGo.
Well you know, Harry Potter Wizards Unite is closing down now. I wonder how many more people giving up playing their games Niantic can afford. It does not seem to have been a good year for Niantic. Sure, people can stop playing because they are fed up with Niantic, but at some point Niantic is going to have engage in good faith discussions with players because the constant steady **** of players no longer wanting to play eventually adds up and when Niantic goes bankrupt, it will be the players who have the last laugh. They will roll their eyes and say to themselves "Niantic should have listened to us".
I like (liked?) HPWU, I though it was a bit more interesting to play than PoGo. I think the problem is the usual problem, after the first initial surge of interest the number of player dropped somewhat and most likely, they were just not seeing enough in-game purchases for them to decide the game was profitable to keep it going. All of these games are marketed as "AR" games, but I've yet to see anyone who actually plays any of them in AR mode for more than a few minutes, so a big chunk of the marketing about them being "AR" is wasted and pointless.
PoGo is a different kettle of fish, you never saw HPWU players running 5 different accounts at one time.
Some new Gyms and PokéStops have appeared on the map.
Issue description: New Gyms and PokéStops have been added to the map outside of regular updates.
Issue status: Investigating
Doesn't really give us the option to discuss what's going on, so I'm going to stick to commenting here, as I can get feedback from around the world about this bug.
So to add, in that same area where an ingress portal appeared and a new gym was created, last night an old gym, one that's been around for over a year now (I think) turned back into a stop. Haven't heard what happened to the pokemon that were in it, but even if this became a gym again, we'd probably have to restart at the beginning to gold it. The new gym, however, still remains a gym and the new stop remains as well.
Since this is not a Wayfarer issue, but rather an issue with the gym promotion requirements of the Pokémon GO program, it would be difficult to reach a conclusion here.
At the risk of taking up some of your time, could you contact the Pokémon GO team and have them report back to you on their findings?
Of course, the investigation will take time, but it is impossible for Pokémon GO players to get the conclusion they want by talking with people who don't know.

pretty much confirms that it's some kind of bug, otherwise they would have said how and why this happened
No, it's not wayfarer related.
Wayfarer is you working for free to add locations to Lightship and then each game that remains alive might choose which ones of those locations they want to use. So if one game now had a hiccup and added a bunch of PoI that breaks their spacing rules, that's up to that game.
I can't help but wonder if the upcoming three-day maintenance window in that game means that this is indeed a glitch with a fix upcoming.
I think at least keeping the 20 m rule, that at least makes the most sense.
Im hoping not but I think it will be, because clearly good things aren't allowed

It has created pokestops as well though, so thats a good thing
Not near me. Only new gyms.
Do t get me wrong, it's a lot more gyms than pokestops, but I have seen a few come through which isn't a bad thing

I suspect that too, but I'm hoping some compromise can be reached.

Like a poke center? Don’t they have those in the main games and cartoons?
Yup in the main games/anime it heals your party (6 pokemon). Sometimes or later games pokemon centers have also a stall (shop).
So it could be like even related to some kind crafting mechanic.
Hello Explorers,
Please check out the update for this from Pokémon GO HERE. All updates will be posted there.
Safe Exploring!
I guess it’s a bug not a feature 😔
I appreciate you pointing us to this.

Tell them we want it kept, the vast majority like it, dont remove them cause of a bug, just keeps what's there

Had a stop been removed from the cell the old gym was in? That would probably explain it as I've not seen anything be downgraded yet

Isn't someone else getting the new approved pokestops?
