Inclusion Rule Bug - Pokémon GO & Ingress

Hello Explorers,
We have an update for you today about an issue some of you may have noticed concerning a small number of Wayspots that appeared in Pokémon GO and Ingress when they did not meet the inclusion rules. This was an unfortunate error and we apologize for any inconvenience caused. We are planning to resolve this issue today November 10th at 2:00 PM PST.
Our resolution to the error where these rules were ignored in this case was as follows:
- We have fixed the issue and rebalanced the Wayspot ratio in each area correctly.
- Any location edits/changes to these Wayspots have been reviewed and updated as per Pokémon GO and Ingress policy
- While we will try our best to preserve many of these locations, any newly added or edited Wayspots that broke the rules will be disabled (Pokémon GO & Ingress) or demoted (Pokémon GO only) to preserve the integrity of the gameboard.
To clarify, there have been no changes to the Wayspot inclusion rules and the anomalies you noticed were due to a bug. Once the fix is in place, you’ll notice the gameboard return to normal.
We’ll be starting with a small affected area to make sure all goes well, and then expand globally once we’ve confirmed. You will be seeing these changes starting today at 2:00 PM PST.
Thank you for your understanding! Safe Exploring!

Your tweet says you'll preserve as many as you can, yet this says they'll all be removed or reverted.....
It makes sense to rebalance the game boards but is there going to be some way of seeing and being able to edit these Waypoints that will presumably just go into Lightship-only in future?
I have seen that Pikmin Bloom has used some Waypoints which don’t appear in any games.
We can’t ever get good stuff huh
Does this mean that Wayspots that were approved in the interim will be syncing/appearing in games?
Why is this being acted faster than the number of approved Wayspots that have still not synced into Ingress over the last 6+ months?
Typical, if a bug happens that actually makes players happy and improves the gameplay somehow, they “fix it” and take it away ASAP, but if it’s a bug that is actually ruining the player’s experience they will never fix it.
They never fixed Quick Catch in Pokémon Go. They aren’t that evil
Bad idea, the new gyms brought life back to the game? People rushing to get gold etc... please keep them
YOU GUYS AT NIANTIC ARE ALL BLUNDERING ****.
What is meant by "rebalanced the Wayspot ratio in each area correctly." I would have assumed that if something was a Wayspot, it would appear in each game according to that game's inclusion rules. But "rebalanced the Wayspot ratio" seems to imply that there were other considerations made.
WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU??!!? PEOPLE HAVE SPENT TIME, MONEY, PASSES, ETC. ON THE NEW GYMS AND YOU TAKE THEM AWAY BEFORE WE EVEN GET TO FINISH??????????
I struggle to cope with amount of hoops you have to jump through to add something into the game.
We get maybe 5 stops in our town come through to Pogo that are legitimate, interesting POIs. Perhaps 6 new gyms as well. All of which promote all the dross that Niantic try and spout, exploring etc.
What happens at 10pm is sincerely going to affect how I proceed with this game. I’m posting this to hold myself accountable.
"Thanks for doing our job for free guys, now say goodbye to your POIs"
Also, the relevant Tweets if anyone is interested:
Will this also review the Foursquare items that all got added a while back too?
This is such a bad decision. The 4 pokemon that I currently have in "new" gyms better at least be returned to my inventory without any hassle.
Niantic always loves to **** us, and whenever we get good stuff they take it away, yet syncing issues are going on for months now and they don’t give a f*ck..
Hi @NianticTintino-ING
You're talking about Wayspots that broke the inclusion rules, could you please tell us more about those rules? Where are described so we can verify that everything is OK ?
Thank you very much for any insight.
This is the wrong answer. You made a mistake. People liked it. So own it. Change the inclusion rules to include more wayspots in the games, whilst preserving these additions. It's absurd we have wayfarer encouraging people to add more wayspots when there's plenty of existing ones they can already enjoy if they were only included like this.
Thank you for the update Tintino :) Personally I wasn't fussed by it, I submit stuff regardless of what game it's in or not in, I don't care if it's a stop or gym, portal or not a portal or whatever that translates to in other games.
Fix it, we can all move on and carry on as if things were normal.
Allow the down-voting to commence... 🤣
Generally:
1 pokestop per level 17 S2 cell
1 gym if there are 2 pokemon POI in a level 14 S2 cell
2 gyms if there are 6 pokemon POI in a level 14 S2 cell
3 gyms if there are 20 pokemon POI in a level 14 S2 cell
I have seen 4 gyms in a cell that has 36 pokemon POI, but I'm not sure what the cutoff is. I can confirm it was not a legacy location edit that caused the 4th. It popped naturally.
Old location edits could ignore the above rules
Is there anyone in your company, who plays their games?
There are tons of bugs, that need to be fixxed and nothing happens. Climax of this is the shutdown of wizards unite. I stopped to play few months ago because of bugs (game crashed whenever I tried to access the menu with daily and event tasks, even after re-installation). So progress was impossible and without a fix there was no reason to play that game. This kind of bugs lasting months is what your company should fix asap. Those that effect the ability to play the games…
Now a bug happens, that is appreciated by the community. Niantic wants to revert it. What the …
what should happen: fix the problem, so that it doesnt happen again, and that‘s it. Reverting the stuff that happened is simply dumb. Lots of players will be really really pissed. Think of all those who loose an Home-wayspot this way, or about all the new gym badges, taht you cant make gold, but that will nethertheless last in your list of gym badges …
Looks like Nia wants to scare away their playerbase ….
Actually they did. On android phones you could use the back button to go to the main screen after throwing the ball.
Great news! Despite all the negative reactions, mainly from Pokemon players it seems, I applayd this decision to revert a bug and maintain the rules regarding wayspot balance.
In the dense areas that were affected by the bug, we have enough wayspots to play with already. And breaking the balance rules by leaving those bugged wayspots alive would have been a mistake.
So good job. I hope you manage to tackle the bug also that causes Niantic-approved wayspots to NOT appear in all of the games even if they should.
Thanks for the update Tintino. I welcome this communication, even if the playerbase most likely won't like it.
Keep in mind PoGO players that this was a bug and shouldn't have happened. Niantic has every right to revert unwanted changes of the ingame map. We still have the 80m interaction distance, which is a lot if you ever played Ingress.
I hope the regular sync to Ingress and Pokémon GO will be better in the future!
I can still quick catch on Android
I guess the forum staff isnt in charge of decisions like this.
please present us the dumb****, that decide, that this is a necessary action with priority
🤦♂️
WHAT THE HELLS IS WRONG WITH YOU?! TONS OF PLAYERS HAVE INVESTED TIME AND REAL MONEY AND GAS AND RESOURCES TO TRY AND GOLD THESE NEW GYMS AND YOU'RE TAKING THEM AWAY JUST LIKE THAT??????? HOW **** ARE YOU.
Can the POI we submit for Ingress, actually appear in Ingress that would be great. (Since the move too Lightship we had this bug) cheers.
Enserio Niantic ??????? No te cuesta nada dejar esos nuevos puntos poi. Cada vez apestas más. 🙄
