Did Niantic scrap the review by Niantic already?

I had two nominations which were tagged with in voting by Niantic. Now they are both back in queue. Did somebody notice this, too?

Same thing happened to me. Maybe they're just checking if it's on residential property.
Yeah had the same. I think it’s probably just a visual bug though. Any ideas @NianticTintino
Same here - had two with balloon, now zero.
My hope is, that Niantic realises, that there are thousands of pending nominations from last summer out there, that were blocked by the system.
They should review evrything from June - August 2020 manually. The stuff from back then seems to be forgotten by the algorithm.
Ideally they should go from both ends. Have some doing the older stuff and some taking newer stuff.
I had one, and came here to ask the same question. It was tagged as "Niantic Review" on 11/18
but was back "in queue" 11/19
Have seen several Discord reports that Niantic Reviews have been placed back in queue.
Maybe reviewers are off this week? Holiday week here in America.
I'm hopeful that they're doing the legally-mandated reviews, and that's it: cull the PRP and abusive submissions, and return the rest to the queue for peer review. That would be the best of all possible worlds, in my opinion anyway.
But @NianticGiffard is still working here...
OMG ! Is the date real ?! I mean, 16 months !! It's kind of frustrating...
I’m wondering with this, whether it’s a case of holidays.
It’s Thanksgiving time in the US, and a lot of staff will be off. As with any job, there will be service level agreements about when the reviews should be completed and how many.
With lots of staff off, perhaps it was decided that these targets wouldn’t be met, and thus they were released back to the reviewers instead of Niantic doing it.
That could be the best answer possible. Eliminate those which are immediate rejection and let the community of reviewers decide if it met the acceptance criterias. I hope this.
(I believe their trying to pass the test in fact. After what we seen here it's plausible and will need a long time^^)
I’d be very, very surprised if the reviewers were located at all in the US. Everybody I’ve polled has had their Niantic review replies come in overnight in the US.
This one was nominated on the 15th went in to Niantic review on the 18th. On the 23rd, I noticed it was back in general review by the community.
There is another one that had the same behavior. No decision by Niantic reviewers.
I was really hopeful when two of my cycling trails were selected in Niantic review. Sadly now the community will decline them as with the other 52 cycling trails I nominated. With Niantic review I had some hope to get them through
I wonder if they're reviewing them, and then putting them back in the pool so that they can see if regular wayfarers vote the same way. Though it could just be another bug. Either way, some Niantic insight would be welcome.
Niantic and insight in one sentence? You must be new here :P
The advantage for me was that the Niantic reviews were free upgrades for submissions that would normally take years.
Thanksgiving should be already over so..., no answer yet? @NianticTintino @NianticDanbocat @NianticGiffard
Sorry for the delay in response. This was a temporary issue and is resolved now.
What exactly was the issue and in what way has it been resolved?
Are there new Niantic reviews being done?
According to a screenshot, that reached out to me, the marker with Nia-review-balloon is back for some candidates in voting.
Much as I am grateful for saying it is fixed…..
It seems only polite to acknowledge exactly what was going wrong, and in what way it has been fixed.
Was it just a visual glitch and these remain in the queue for Niantic review?
People go to the bother of reporting issues and at times gathering information about it. Good communication means this is reciprocated.
I am sorry as I didn't make it clear the first time. Some newer nominations were erroneously assigned to our concerned team for review instead of the oldest ones.
We had been following the FIFO approach and this was rectified immediately once identified.
@NianticGiffard So wait, you're saying that newer nominations shouldn't be in voting by Niantic and that it was a mistake? I have one relatively new nomination that's been in voting by Niantic for around 5 weeks by now, and have heard nothing back yet. Is this long voting time by Niantic a bug too? Any chance the nomination could be resolved soon, or preferably relinquished back into the queue?
Oooh, so back to the quasi-random selector, it seems that the parameters in having nominations routed to Niantic have been adjusted to rather select older nominations in the system... or am I reading into this incorrectly? Considering that the FIFO approach being mentioned, is it still randomly picking out nominations and maybe the reference was in terms of nominations tagged as under Niantic review being reviewed out of order?
Thanks for further clarification.
just to get this straight…
There has been a change and the review by Niantic staff will focus on clearing out older nominations - hurrah.
So the example that @cyndiepooh-ING gave above from 2020 where it had the Niantic staff marker then didn’t was a good example of what should be happening but the glitch happened.
That these older ones will be done in date order. Is there a geographic element? I have older examples so wondered if you were focussing on some areas that were heavily blocked first.
But overall it’s good to know the focus is in clearing the backlog.
This is great news, thanks, @NianticGiffard!
One other thing you could consider: there are large areas where there are so few reviewers that nothing ever really passes through the system. Last year, before the India challenge, I had my bonus location in Guinea, and I reviewed nominations that didn't even have secondary photos - meaning that they are years old. And while the FIFO approach will hopefully help clear out the backlog, new submissions will enounter the same issue.
Similar problems surface on this forum time and time again. Right now, there's a thread about Iraq, but I remember similar threads about East Africa, Pacific island nations etc. as well. Perhaps Niantic reviewers could be assigned to help out these zones where there are not enough reviewers to reach agreements.
Then I would recommend to have a look into submissions from the timeframe June-August 2020 ..... they are somehow stuck in queue and in voting, and they are overtaken by way newer Submissions right now.
Stuff around the town Jena, Thuringia, Germany now takes only a few weeks, while there are these summer 2020 submissions are still out there and nothing happens to them...
I would hate to be a member of one of the underrepresented communities with years+ backlog getting "Niantic rejection reason" email that states there is no appeals method.
Perhaps an additional rewording should be added that they may such rejections may be appealed with additional context on the Wayforum.
Could you please review the fix? I have a nomination (with upgrade) that was once assigned to be reviewed by NIA and it was back to the queue for weeks and not being processed back into voting.
