There should be an option when reporting invalid portals for inappropriate locations

This just popped up and honestly, I don't think medical marijuana dispensaries should be eligible.

I agree with your opinion. Sometimes I see spots written in the rejection criteria as like this
Location is an adult-oriented store or service, such as a liquor store, **** range, firearm store, or provides **** and/or adult content
but in the REPORT INVALID PORTAL in the app, there is no "Ineligible(inappropriate) location" section. Even if we want to report a spot for these reasons, we cannot do so because there is no section for it, and the inappropriate spot will continue to remain in the game. This is not good.
If there were to be a generic, overarching new reason/section simply called "Inappropriate location", then anyone who simply thinks a place has explicit or inappropriate activities (i.e. anyone who selects that reason simply because they believe that the submitted nomination is simply just "inappropriate", akin to being just not meeting acceptance criteria) will just report anything they believe should not be in game, either grandfathered in or just their opinion.
If it is called out for what it is in the section, i.e. adult-oriented or explicit location, then it might be useful. But maybe the advanced and new abuse reporting section which features actual in-app chats could also apply to such reports.
I definitely agree we need something to report inappropriate points of interest. but I could also see a reporting function like that be weaponized for some games as they have in the past.
Oops, my post seems to be doubled.
@HaramDingo-ING That's a possibility. In fact, there have been cases where the meaning of "inappropriate" was misunderstood and the rejection reason was used in the normal review of nomination. I believe "inappropriate" refers to the rejection criteria given by Niantic, which I quoted above. I agree this.
If it is called out for what it is in the section, i.e. adult-oriented or explicit location, then it might be useful.
@AgentX1976-ING Ingress?
This is one of those things that overlaps games. Reporting invalid Wayspots is surely Wayfarer related, however inclusion of more report reasons would need to be done on the app side. So, is this a better request for the Wayforum or the Ingress community forum
and Pokémon GO community forum?I agree more options should be available for removal requests (also, it's 2021, why don't we have ways to provide additional information with the report?????), HOWEVER:
Per the September 2020 AMA, "inappropriate location" was not a removal reason, only the following:
It can be very difficult to get a nomination approved. Between bad reviewers or people unfamiliar with the local area, I would hate to have finally gotten a culturally significant monument in a cemetery approved after multiple rejections, only to have somebody report it as being an inappropriate location and have whoever is running the night helpdesk at Niantic decide to remove it.
One last thing I'd like to point out. Per a now not criteria Ingress AMA, "A mural or candidate not related to the business should be reviewed on its own merit." This reply was directly to a question about a mural on the wall of a marijuana shop. As I said, this isn't to be taken as criteria, but it was Niantic's clarification at one time and since then they have made an effort to suggest being more inclusive with eligibility. Surely they wouldn't have meant to backpedal this type of clarification.
I concur. I was in downtown Las Vegas recently and noticed a portal that was a well-known ... well, I can't say you-know-what club so let's go with club where very scantily clad women dance. There was no category for reporting it.
What criteria does this meet?
@grendelwulf-ING A 'playground set', tops.
Galaga? Historical site, then. :)
Now you're just complaining. This doesn't even have anything to do with your original complaint about inappropriate locations.
Is there a live coal super thread somewhere?
No, they usually get shut down because the constant complaining gets old.
Start one if you want 🤷
Thought of this thread when encountering this nomination just now:
And when seeing in the duplicates map that this obvious liquor store has actually already GOT a wayspot.
Really wondering how the hell it got accepted. Even without the title and the photo - it says it's a liquor store right there on the sign.
And yup - as noted previously in the thread, no way of reporting it.
I think there must be a system to re-review wayspots that are clearly unqualified.
A trash quality wayspot will only confuse the player.
@UNoTakeCandle-ING Can't you say anything without insulting someone? I normally don't engage on forum conversations but I've been watch your many (banned) accounts activity here and genuinely curious how a grown man with a job/ life has so much time on this hands to be internet troll.
If a moderator decides to modify/ remove the above for being "mean", keep this line instead:
@UNoTakeCandle-ING If you really want to help someone learn some manners and try to be nice, maybe then you wouldn't have to create another account.
Looks like they are banned again. There's a lot of truth and frankness in his words, but the portrayal is definitely on the blunter side. Wonder what their next iteration will be. Are they fresh accounts being able to register and log into the forums (i.e. brand new created ones) or are they levelled highly enough to qualify for reviewing/submitting?
I thought even a level 1 account can access this forum without meeting any requirements to be able to submit/review?
Iirc back then there were many users in this forum who are underleveled and asking someone to create Pokestops in their area.
If Niantic is going to update report reasons, I would like them to use the word "adult-oriented" instead of "inappropriate".
I actually replied to you but was swiftly banned again despite not having said anything hurtful or offensive, just a statement of facts. I will message you my reply to HaramDingo's post, and then you can be the judge on whether i'm wrong or not for being so vocally against Niantic.
@BleedBoss-PGO We've warned you multiple times and I can assure you that you have had more chances than anyone else in this forum. Given your conversation with @NianticGiffard from your other account (
still not bannededit: banned now), they thought you might turn over a new leaf.We try to be lenient when it comes to warning users and have not warned you for your feedback to the team, however unnecessarily mean it might have been.
I wouldn't respond to this but would like to avoid giving you a chance to change the narrative here.
Any chance that the team will investigate this marijuana store POI and take necessary action?
Place to socialize with friends while playing arcade games. It's not a huge arcade or anything, but I feel it meets enough criteria for acceptance.
Isn’t having multiple accounts against the rules? Shouldn’t that warrant a ban for ToS breaking?
@ComChansey-ING It depends. One could have separate accounts in Ingress and Pokemon Go, certainly. Having more than one account in one game is a TOS violation and should warrant a ban.
I'm pretty sure that the ToS applies to Wayfarer as well. It is listed at the bottom the Wayfarer website as well as on the bottom of every page on these forums. So using more than one account on the forums or to review is a ToS violation. However, the trick is in catching those using mutiple accounts on Wayfarer.
Where it starts getting foggy is when someone have separate accounts for each game and uses them to submit nominations or edits.
I wish they never got rid of the report portal > reason > other section, where you could type out the reason why the portal is in eligible. I believe that should be brought back.
I personally don't see an issue with the above P.O.I it wasn't the store itself it was the Mural even though I would of rejected because it looks more like a temporary sign then a mural. But anyway I see plenty of murals inside and outside if bars to me that is worse then a Marijuana store. Do you know anyone who gets prescribed alcohol. Lol so if I ever come across a legit mural inside a legal Marijuana store I wouldn't reject because of location. But I do believe this one could be removed for not actually being a mural
@CoachKev413-PGO Liquor stores are not permissible wayspots. Bars can be, as they are places to socialize. I think a dispensary/marijuana store is much closer to a liquor store than to a bar.
Again not talking about the dispensary we are talking about a mural.
Well the "mural" is inside the dispensary, so if we are concerned about people or childs to go in adult oriented/inappropriate location, this make sense to raise the question Do we need Inappropriate/adult oriented location as a removal criterias or not.
Back to the original topic... I recently encountered this liquor store, and tried to report it. But apparently it doesn't meet criteria to be removed. https://intel.ingress.com/intel?ll=34.00336,-84.388696&z=17&pll=34.003843,-84.391194
