Movie theaters promote social gatherings. Can anyone tell me what's wrong with my nominations?

They are the movie theater equivalent of a McDonald's or Walmart. Both are generic locations of large chains (Regal Cinema and Movie Tavern/Marcus Theaters). I would not resubmit them.
I'm of the opinion that chain cinemas should be accepted when they re the only cinema in the area, so you will most likely have multiple in a large city center. But say its a small town, that might only have 1, so it will be one of the main gathering/social place for people in that area
In the instance of the Regal nomination, it has an arcade in the lobby for kids to play. For example. On top of it to be a highly traffic area for people to hangout.
The Movie Tavern, not only are there 3-5 in the entire state, but it is also a dine in theater where you can eat meals and drink. It's mostly always busy.
I've never even heard of Movie Tavern. But I suppose plenty of movie theaters are "regional chains", I remember Smitty's in ME.
AMC, Regal, and CineMark are the big nationwide chains though, referencing Wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_movie_theater_chains#United_States A lot of the "chains" are in the single digits for locations. I'd say those are all eligible in some fashion? Just maybe not the nation-wide ones.
If its the only movie theatre in town re submit. If its a bigger city and theres more than one of these theatres you will have a very hard time. May help to let your local reviewers review it vs upgrading
I think all movie theaters should be accepted, regardless of chain status. They have always been a significant gathering place.
I do actually agree with you. But at the same time you know how some (most) reviewers are, they don't like chains at all, no matter what the chain promotes
I think movie theaters are like bowling alleys or playgrounds. They can be mass produced generic chains but they still meet criteria. They are place we go to experience the art of film. Movies have the power to change opinions, change the way we see the world and bring joy to all who experience them. They are also a social experience with everyone in a dark room together listening as we collectively are shocked, moved, awed or frightened. If chain gyms encourage exercise why not chain theaters that explore the social arts?
Actually, yeah, I take back my saying "maybe not nationwide ones". Because a movie theater does promote gatherings and being social, and they are most of the time large, grandiose buildings. And if they are a small podunk one then its not a chain so its still eligible.
And on that same vein, unlike a chain of say, McDonald's or Starbucks or other generic chain restaurant, there's usually not 5 movie theaters all stacked up next to each-other and facing each-other across the intersection. They are still pretty unique. Most cookie-cutter design I have seen across the US is AMC but even then. There's usually only 1 per town and maybe 2-3 per city.
I think I'll use your quote when I renominate these :]
There are certainly not many movie theaters.
But as for chain store movie theaters, the number is probably similar to that of fitness gyms in major chains.
Considering this, we believe that they should remain independent movie theaters, just like fitness gyms, which are negative to chain stores.
A line needs to be drawn.
And I think that independent movie theaters, many of which have already been approved, are qualified candidates.
I don't get your point.
According to the official clarification, exercise related businesses are eligible. It does not matter whether a fitness gym is a chain or not.

As for the number, the number of chain fitness gyms is not many from my own experience. There are more churches than gyms in my city, even though Christianity is not the major religion in my country. I don’t believe that there are massive chain gyms in a city so that you have to reject them.
I'm a thumbs up on both of these. Frustrating for sure but don't let that stop you. Movie theaters, trampoline parks, bowling alleys, all these things are fairly uncommon, chain or not. Even in cities you generally still only have a handful to choose from.
Don't give up they will go through eventually.
For your first nomination, you can improve photo and you must change description.
Your main photo show more the parking lot and a car than the movie theater.
And your description is not a description, just third party text.
I don't know what country you live in, but in Japan, where I live, there are several general fitness gyms and movie theaters, mainly big chain, in cities above a certain size.
Don't ignore the fact that Giffard's comment you quoted also has the sentence "don't belong to a big chain".
Probably the same is true in the U.S. and many other developed countries.
In such cases, the movie theaters are really just commercial facilities that provide entertainment complexes.
It is questionable if they are cultural or historical.
Theaters that perform plays, similar to movie theaters, need to draw a certain line between big chains and independent , small chains.
Smaller chains that are independent or have a limited number of stores or geographic areas are worth considering, but big chains would be where Niantic would negotiate for sponsorship business.
In Japan, TOHO Cinemas, which showed the Pocket Monsters movie, has been a sponsor spot in the past. (They have since withdrawn.)
In other countries, including Japan, large chain stores are such places.
There is literally nothing in the criteria that differentiates between an individual business and an international chain. There is nothing in the criteria that asks us to consider potential sponsorship deals. And it wasn't Giffard that talks about the big chains, he was quoting the question he was answering.
Description is optional, so it can be something short and funny. The additional info is a place where one can justify a nomination for reviewers, but I get the impression, that most reviewers skip it.
There is no doubt that movie theaters are great social places. Being a big chain does not affect their intrinsic value of promoting social gatherings.
I’m from Taiwan, which has a population of 23 million people. The following is the official statistics. It shows the number of facilities in the country.
An eligible nomination is not necessary to be one in a million. It is fair to say that movie theaters are rare and not generic. Therefore, movie theaters should be eligible.
Tintino said in the December AMA that it's important how interesting and relevant it is as a place worthy of adventuring out to.
His opinion reminded me of
Casey's comments about Starbucks
. Maybe Niantic will update the rejection criteria as well as the rejection reasons this year.I appealed and my regal nomination got approved
