Wanted to give you all the update that the first batch of new Wayspots in India have been added! The next batch will be added in January 2022 but in the meantime, can't wait to see what great photos you all add to these new wayspots.
In a matter of minutes, a few of us on Discord have already found a bunch of new ineligible wayspots without even trying.
Duplicates of existing wayspots. A wayspot for a whole street - hundreds of meters north of said street. A wayspot with a website address in the title advertising some sort of private consultant. And the old classics, wayspots in the middle of the ocean.
Obviously it's the tip of the iceberg with over 500 thousand new wayspots.
Mind you this is 10 minutes' worth of scouring around the waters of India, but we can already see the beauty that is the Waysquarer. Praise be to the Foursquare. Well, at least the abusers can fly to these industrial shipping ports?
Randomly scrolling around and zooming in I found some really nice murals and parks. Unfortunately they have pictures already. I also found a tyre shop, a food mart and a life insurance building near to each other and all without pictures... Well done, Niantic.
It would even be interesting to carry out some international reviews of other players, performing a Wayfarer Challenge, this would be a very interesting point, select a country that has between 0 to 3k of Wayspots or if not, make a choice of countries that the community is requesting help and observe the x Wayspots of the country, if you have very little, a Wayfarer Challenge from that location would be much more accurate instead of picking up other countries randomly.
Glad to see such active action being taken. Given the scale of the operation I would be very suprised if it went off without a hitch.
But I think it's promising that feedbacks are being looked into and considered when taking calls. And this approach would really help iron out any creases that arises from this operation.
Here is hoping to the fact that this helps the Community grow further, and that the learnings from India help other countries also improve on POI landscape.
I will not judge before all the imports are made. I can see the example of Turkey and some othe imports that were not so high quality being brought into the game. But still, I cannot say how these 500K will impact the game and what kind of submissions these will be. Let's just wait and hope Niantic does good and we get some good standard of submissions. Also, happy for all the small town and village players in India who can finally enjoy the game.
Hello, I am currently at my parents for the holidays and I can see that the area has got some new additions. 3 additions in my immediate view. Considering it is a very rural area, this certainly adds a bit. And from what I have seen, Niantic has gone for the safer option with this additions. At least everything I have seen are religious institutions (temples, churches, shrines). While they are easily verifiable, locations can get tricky. I am attaching a picture where a way point (a church) should be (marked X). But as we can see it is way off (gym in picture). Not even within the 10m to even put an edit on. Looking at Google maps, there's indeed a tag at the location where Niantic has placed the gym at, but in reality it's a private residence and needs to be moved. Not sure what's the course of action here is.
There is an old google doc form for requesting edits greater than 10m but I have had much better response times by using the new chat button in the "help" section of my wayfarer page. It is a little green chat icon that only shows up when you got to the help section and can be used to privately report abuse or to request big location edits. My first took about a week and when they finish reviewing it they respond in the chat so you know it's been processed. Definitely attach any extra info or pictures you have to help prove location since the streetview and satellite in India are poor.
I really love that India is getting the attention. I have already gotten my 2/3 nominations accepted pretty quick but does it really matter ? when there are no Pokemon spawning near the new pokestops at all. When you go through all that trouble to get an upgrade and also get a nomination successfully accepted but no pokemons spawn there. Do it for what ? pokeballs ? you can easily get them from gifts. Its just really depressing to get something done and to let it all go in vain.
And there is not even a Official Pokemon Go forum and if you post something here regarding it the thread is closed . :(
Hope you all continue to have a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year (past or coming)! Wanted to give you all an update that our second batch of new Wayspots will be coming to India this week! We’ll be sure to update you all once it's done.
You will not be held responsible for the massive increase in low-quality wayspots, and you will refuse to remove them.
And you will ruin the fun for people to go to great places instead of aiming to have a never-ending supply of Monster Balls to catch Pokémon with this implementation.
Ingress doesn't need garbage wayspots.
And it's an act that kills the reason we go to great wayspots.
If you want to create more piles of trash, please completely separate the Pokémon GO and Ingress Lightship databases.
That's the only win-win way to satisfy both players: one for catching Pokémon, the other for visiting wayspots.

Is a typical hotel or motorcycle dealership an attractive, high-quality wayspot for you to "exercise", "explore", and "socialize"?
If you think so, then I'm sorry to say that you are not a qualified Wayfinder.
I found these in one minute.
There are no pictures, so I'm assuming it's garbage you guys pulled from the foursquare database.
It is unlikely that you will see all of the listings, but I can easily imagine that if these were reviewed by wayfinders worldwide, probably 90% or more of them would not meet the criteria, with or without photos.
Hey guys I'm having a doubt. When do we get to see the OSM update because I have a park near me and i would like to see it in the map. I hope it's wouldn't take longer.
Unlike Pokémon GO, where the main goal of Pokémon trainers is to catch Pokémon and wayspots are nothing more than a place to refill monster balls for most players, the main goal of Ingress agents is to visit wayspots.
So, if the field is full of these trash wayspots, the game loses its appeal.
It also significantly reduces the product value of Niantic's own Lightship database.
This is the same reason why many people don't like to tour the Smoky Mountains.
Yes, unfortunately in Pokémon GO (though I play it too), one PokéStop is no different to another.
A Pokémon GO player would have no incentive to walk up a hill to a trig point PokéStop (especially if there’s one at ground level), where an Ingress agent would want to get it as a good anchor, that takes more time to get to.
Personally I like to get gifts from an unusual wayspot to send to my friends, but I know not all people actually look at where the gifts come from when they open them.
For example, I was visiting a city and found a wayspot that was a fossil display. It was interesting, so I made sure I could pick up a gift from it and then I sent it to a friend who I know likes fossils and dinosaurs, and he appreciated the effort and thought that went into it.
I do agree it's not as much of an incentive as having a good anchor point in Ingress though.
Yeah, I get that aspect of it. Most of the things I nominate tend to have long titles, and it’s a bit of a running joke in some Wayfarer groups I’m in.
So, I always make sure to send some lengthy titled Gifts to those that bring it up. 😂

This is a good time to refer to my favorite reaction gif.
I also can't wait to see the great photos they will add, to places such as a Fertilizer Bulk Berth No. 2, Shanhai Gardens in the middle of the train tracks, the train station duplicates of Bhopal Jn train station (three duplicates, and two versions of Platform 1), the three duplicates of Porbandar Railway Station, and all these in the middle of the water (Paradip Port Sea Beach, Ennore Port, NCC URC Kakinada).

Maybe some of these people in India don’t deserve nomination privileges. Please review @NianticGiffard
Unless the Pokemon GO clusters are going to be as dense as some of the major cities that they spoof to, they will not stop.

Why only in Pokemon Go? Why not in Ingress?
The new additions will appear on Ingress too.
Sadly, they also show up in Ingress.

Open Street Map is not relevant in this forum.
Please contact the respective game staff for updates.
Also, if you are reporting abusive behavior on OpenStreetMap, please contact the person in charge of that OSM.
Please please please do get them in ingress.
Hello Explorers,
We’re almost there! Our third and last batch of new Wayspots will be coming to India next week! Stay tuned for the update.
Happy Exploring!
