Not able to withdraw while in voting

in Report a Bug
Last week I heard one of my nominations was already in the duplicate section. Since I wanted to withdraw this one I got to wayfarer and selected the nomination in question. When I clicked edit and then withdraw, wayfarer just said to me that it was unable to withdraw the nomination. I tried to withdraw it first on my android phone, later on my laptop and iPad, all unsuccessful.
Is this a bug or is it working as intended?

Same here. I was thinking it just is like that when they are in viting, but today I read from help center that they should be able to withdraw.
I also have a nomination that's been in voting for a very long time. Another player with an upgrade submitted it and it's been accepted, so I'd like to withdraw mine - but every time I try, it says the nomination can't be withdrawn. It's not the end of the world. However, I'm curious if people who voted 'approve' on mine would receive a disagreement if it is ever resolved as a duplicate (if voting were to reach a natural conclusion 5 or 10 years from now).
I had the same thing, although my submission is already accepted, and the wrongly located one has been removed after posting it on the wayfarer forum.
I tried via Twitter Support firstly, and they stated that the in game Ingress support could withdraw it for me. So I headed to Ingress and talked about it and they kept saying that Support is not able to do this.
this was my situation - another nomination for the same thing was approved today (in the wrong spot) so i tried to withdraw mine but can't - very good point about it hurting everyone that voted for it if it has to ride out the time until it gets marked as a duplicate
@NianticDanbocat can you point out to whoever is responsible that we need to be able to withdraw nominations like this to keep from saddling reviewers who voted correctly with a disagreement once it turns into a duplicate?
I saw on the map today that another submission for this had gone live today so I tried to withdraw my nomination, but couldn't.
am not able to withdraw my nomination while voting to but my nomination is not a duplicate ,every time i try to withdraw it says (Unable to withdraw submission. (E1) , if someone understands what niantic (E1) means can they please tell me.
apparently I'm not the only one who has this problem.
I am having the exact same error from my end.
Having the same issue.
It is just extra and unnecessary review work for community as this portal does not even exists anymore.
And then more extra work as I (and probably other players also) report this portal as invalid with Ingress App.
Note the submit date "2020-01-26".
The oldest nomination I have in voting state is from "2019-11-19". Feels like it takes a bit too long time.
Same problem here. I had something go into voting before I could add a proper description and it will definitely (and rightly) be rejected without out. I want to withdraw it, but I can't and it's just wasting everybody's time.
+1 for me. Got a portal stuck in voting for months now.
This is the error when I try to withdraw it
And this is the one when I try to edit it
I cant withdraw nomination that's duplicated but not visible. I don't want to make voters lose their time.
Can't withdraw this one either. The location is incorrect. I don't know how but it appears 1 block away from the real wayspot
I don't want to make moderators lose their time voting an invalid proposal
Yeah, same here. Didn't realise there was already a duplicate, but it reached voting after the other one went through.
E1 means absolutely nothing to us, why aren't we able to withdraw things like we used to?
@NianticGiffard is it possible for you to elaborate on this?
Hi all, let me clarify this. You won't be able to withdraw nominations while they are in voting. It is even mentioned in our help article here: https://niantic.helpshift.com/hc/en/21-wayfarer/faq/2080-nomination-management/?faq_id=niantic_faq_20190926000550254-0ae62291ca90efc&app_id=niantic_app_20190819225156824-8bea198ad3abcd7&is_preview=false&platform_type=web&platform_id=niantic_platform_20180726175230075-13b9ec875546270&language=en&is_sdkx=false
@NianticGiffard I’m sorry but that’s dumb. In many major cities nominations take well over a year, sometimes over two, to finish voting without an upgrade. Recently a new transit station opened near me with some nice artwork - sculptures and whatnot. I took pictures and planned to submit them from the warmth of my home (well within remote submission distance) later that day; but thankfully I went online and asked a local friend for advice on which photo angle looks best. Her response? “I submitted that yesterday - and it has an upgrade on it.” So because she said that, I chose not to submit my version until we heard back on hers - her nomination got approved but if it had been rejected I might have tried. But if I had just submitted it rather than asking her opinion, then are you saying that if it went into voting fairly promptly I would’ve been stuck wasting reviewers’ time on an obvious duplicate for nearly 2 years because I didn’t know there was another instance in someone else’s queue when I submitted it? I’m not pulling that timeline out of my rear either, my oldest nomination currently in voting was made in April 2020 and entered voting less than a month later, meaning I’ve been waiting on results from it for 20 months now. I would hate to think Niantic is willingly extending backlogs like this, but that’s exactly what the end result of not allowing us to withdraw from in voting is.
The comment above says it all. The reasoning for letting wayfarers withdraw nominations in voting is crystal clear to anyone who has nominated and reviewed nominations. What led Niantic to the opposite conclusion?
@Danbocat-PGO @NianticTintino PLEASE reconsider this.
This is counterproductive for a multitude of reasons.
Being able to withdraw nominations that are in voting is paramount and vital for a fluid user experience and I believe everyone in the community agrees with this.
So I plead you and kindly request that you reconsider your decision and change this back. The Wayfarer Community absolutely *requires* to be able to withdraw nominations that are in voting.
Ok... But this nomination is borked and stuck and holding up the queue. How does it get fixed then?
I am surprised by the announcement that this is an intended feature and would urge Niantic to reconsider.
@Danbocat-PGO listed “Speeding up decisions” as one of the road map outcomes for 2022. But here is a case where people want to withdraw their nominations, potentially reducing the backlog of decisions, but are told they aren’t allowed to?
@NianticGiffard what is the reason for this change? As said before me, we used the withdraw feature for example for mistakes in nominations (textual/location/pictures) and already accepted nominations, which are blocking the ‘in voting’-queue for perfectly and/or new wayspots. As a lot of people most likely don’t agree with the change (or aren’t aware it changed/don’t know how to report), please let us withdraw nominations in voting again.
Furthermore, I don’t think too many people have seen the help article you mentioned.
If this system won’t be changed, can we please have another way to let us withdraw our nominations in voting? For example an option in the chat function under the help tab? This could even be with an explanation why the nomination should be withdrawn.
@NianticTintino @Danbocat-PGO @NianticGiffard
I personally have never been in the situation where I've wanted to withdraw a nomination that was in voting. I have accidentally made a submission with the wrong photo though, but thankfully I was able to catch it before it got into voting.
That being said, I do have to question the logic of being unable to withdraw a nomination that's in voting. Is there a specific reason that this limitation was implemented when it didn't previously exist (with the exception of upgraded nominations)? It feels like a choice which was made without considering the impact on Wayfarer users. Any insight into the thought process behind this would be very much appreciated @NianticGiffard @NianticTintino @Danbocat-PGO
Folks before me have already made all the good points, so I'll just add my voice to those. Please don't do this. This is utterly illogical!
It did not used to be this way. I have felt the angst of having to decide whether to leave my much better photo in voting to have it added to the wayspot, or be conscientious to try to reduce the backlog by withdrawing my nomination that was now a duplicate. I hate when Niantic just updates information to current standards without mentioning there has been a change and they do it in all the support pages. Apparently you were unaware that we used to be able to do this, so I am not blaming you. It is simply bad practice. And it is bad for this to be the default for exactly the reason I mentioned - the backlog. Why leave something in voting to be rejected after a year or more? The same goes for appeals. I have appealed a rejection that someone else got accepted, so now my appeal will be a duplicate. We should also be able to withdraw appeals. If they ever start processing.
my last comments about the fact that we should be able to withdraw in voting are valid, but i can find no documented evidence that i used to be able to withdraw in voting submissions. everything i posted about withdrawing when someone else reported seeing it live on my local discord was still in queue. but that doesn't change the angst of the decision. and doesn't mean it didn't happen, just admitting my memory might be faulty.
I also remember it was possible to withdraw when they were in voting and I also did few times, because I saw they were already in game.
Now there is severeal nominations in voting and they are already stops or gyms in game. Also one appeal is alredy in game. This is not very intelligent I think.
