This was rejected due to being offensive, however this is a personal bias and I don't believe it is a valid reason to deny a valid portal and historical location.

You can't appeal rejected nominations here. You need to do that through Wayfarer itself, though the function is currently offline due to Niantic working on fixing a bug in the system.
It has an image of the iron cross on it, a symbol associated with Nazis and still used by far right and neo-nazi groups.
It has a symbol on it associated with hate groups (The Iron Cross). The filter here won't let me use the common term for those groups, so I will use the original name "The National Socialist Party". It is still widely used by far right neo hate groups that follow that doctrine.
It is probably not a symbol that should be on an image in a game designed for children and it is offensive to many people.

I see what you are saying, people should only accept the good part of history and disregard the bad. Especially children should not know the bad things the human race has done. Unfortunately the physical object exists as a reminder of the nature of the human race.
You do know that the Iron Cross has been around since the Prussian Empire and still continues to be awarded by the German military to this day? It is not a specific Nazi symbol.
I do know that, but it was co-opted after WWII by hate groups and is still used widely by them.
I do know that, but it was co-opted after WWII by hate groups and is still used widely by them. Germany had discontinued it post-WWII because of their ban on insignia associated with that party.
When they reinstated a reward for merit in active service in the 1980s it was modified to be more like the old Prussian Cross and no longer is the traditional iron cross shape.
What matters though is that many people will associate the iron cross with the darkest part of its history and therefore the POI the OP submitted is very unlikely to get approved.
So has the US flag.
So has the Christian cross and bible.
Should those symbols be eliminated because a small group of pathetic losers decides to co-opt them to spread their vial?
if you really want it, keep doing it. someday you will come across people who will accept it. do not give up
