Community Guidelines

Welcome to the Wayfarer Community (aka the Wayforum)! We’ve created this space for anyone active in or interested in Niantic Wayfarer and are looking to connect with one another to discuss various aspects of the Wayfarer experience, from nominations and reviews to appeals and support. We encourage you to be active in your discussions and share your experience and perspective with others.
Here are some guidelines to help you make the most of your experience in the Community:
I. Avoid Inappropriate Content
We may review the content you create within the Wayfarer Community and we may remove it if we believe it’s inappropriate. Content that should be avoided includes but isn’t limited to:
- Sexually explicit or pornographic content
- Depictions of graphic or gratuitous violence
- Obscenities, profanity or derogatory content
- Content that promotes illegal activity
- Hate speech or other content promoting hatred against members of a protected group (e.g. racist or sexist content)
II. Avoid Discussing or Promoting illicit gameplay or services
Avoid discussions on using modified client software or other unauthorized third-party software that violate our Terms of Service.
III. Treat others with respect
It’s in everyone’s best interest to keep things courteous and fun for all in the game, in the Community and in the real world.
Here are a few principles of respect to keep in mind:
- Never defame, abuse, ****, harm, ****, or threaten another player.
- Never violate the legal rights (including the rights of privacy and publicity) of others.
- Never impersonate other players or Niantic staff.
- Never expose players’ identities without their consent (“dox”). This includes any information about another user’s identity, including their name, phone number, email address or physical address, even if a player discloses that info first.
- Be respectful towards other players. You can share an opposing idea without being rude or offensive.
IV. Don’t post unrelated content or Spam
This community is for Ingress Agents and Pokémon GO Trainers alike. Keep the discussions to Wayfarer-related topics. All posts that are solely related to non-Wayfarer topics will be considered spam and subject to removal and/or disciplinary actions.
As the community grows, there will be more and more resources available to resolve your question. If everyone uses the search box at the top of the page first, we can avoid repeat questions, many of which already have great answers.
Your Community account may be suspended or terminated if we notice unwelcome behavior.

Never defame, abuse, ****, harm, ****, or threaten another player.
@NianticCasey-ING can you please elaborate what we aren't allowed to do, here?
Awesome. Good work✊✊✊
"Never defame, abuse, ****, harm, ****, or threaten another player."
@NianticCasey-ING can you please elaborate what we aren't allowed to do, here?
Clearly this means we aren't supposed to 4-Star Nominations that are other players @Gendgi.
See its got the same issue with being overly sensitive in censoring words on the threads as the ingress forums
I need to change my face. It won't let me choose another picture, says I don't have permission. Bah.
@0X00FF00-ING Welcome friend! Yea that one is a little derpy.
**** and **** what?
@Gendgi 😳 I've been caught by our own filters!
I would hope that the spirit of this guideline is clear: don't engage in harmful behavior that's targeted at other users.
I've been caught in the filters too and didn't know what I did wrong. 🤣 Oh well. It happens sometimes. @NianticCasey-ING
@NianticCasey-ING Maybe it is a good idea to review the banned word filter and remove words that are in common everyday use and not swear words.
@TheFarix-ING ****, that's a good idea.
Thank you for this Niantic. Can you clarify, the forum threads called 'appeals' won't actually reverse decisions will they? They're just for the community to discuss right?
@Ellejayess-PGO The apples forums are for appeals to overturn rejected title/description edits, rejected location edits, rejected invalid wayspot reports, and invalid images. There was a forum to appeal wayspots that were removed, but people kept getting it confused with the forum to appeal rejected invalid wayspot reports an continued posting in the wrong forum even after repeated attempts to clarify.
@Ellejayess-PGO The appeals section is for existing POI's only and for when you've requested either
a title description edit,
move request
A POI removal request
An invalid POI picture report
Or some othet report on an existing POI
And your request/edit has been declined.
You can make an appeal in the appropriate section and if you provide sufficient information the request/edit decision may be reversed.
It does not deal with submission appeals so if your sub is rejected they will not be reversing that decision
@Theisman-ING, Good to "see" you on the new forum! Cheers.
Thank you @NianticCasey-ING .
I'm so happy about this forum. Looking forward to getting some much needed official clarity on so many things.
@NianticCasey-ING Quick question, how should we go about reporting a player manipulating likes, dislikes, and insightfuls.
Is there a way to reach out directly to let you know without posting it out in the open?
@NianticCasey-ING , another question, is anything going to be put into place to prevent people from spamming the threads with comment after comment after comment just answering themselves? Its beginning to get a bit ridiculous already
@Theisman-ING, it is only one particular account, and it is an indication that it is a sockpuppet of a person banned from the Ingress forums for spreading misleading information and outright lies. It should also be noted that the account in question is doing the exact same thing here.
Here you go guys. Read some Red Solo Words.
Q: nimbusparis - Since portal nominations is available in Prime, we see a lot more pogo players opening an Ingress account just to reach level 10 BY ALL MEANS. Here in Paris, we try to reports them, but it's like to empty the ocean with a spoon. Wouldn't it be possible to have à player validation in one to one, new player should meet irl an old player (with hight level, perhaps 14 or 16 or even, player who attended anomaly) to continue leveling up after level 2 (as it was the case with sms validation in old ingress time).
A: Players are not required to interact with anyone or make themselves known publicly. Nor should there be any gatekeepers to playing Ingress or forcing functions for people to out themselves. In fact, if we are being honest, it was long-term veteran Agents that submitted less than desirable Portal candidates causing the Portal system to be clogged and resources being spent having to deal with those instead of processing valid Portal nominations. So I don’t think an Agent’s level or age of an account are, by themselves, indicators that the person would be qualified to pass judgement on others.
I also think that focusing on someone’s motivation for playing or their play style is unhealthy. Ingress can be played many different ways. Where do you draw the line? There are people who only like to do fields. There are Agents who only like to create missions. To get to level ten, the player had to take some sort of in-game actions. Those actions create AP opportunities for the other faction and help fortify Portals for the same faction. If your attempts to reach out to them have not been met with a reply, accept the fact they don’t want to play your style of Ingress and move on. If they are submitting Portal nominations once they reach level ten, that seems like a good opportunity to participate in OPR in that area to help ensure what they are submitting are quality nominations and to bolster the Portal network in your city. If you don’t like OPR and don’t want to participate in it, you don’t have to. But you shouldn’t stop others from doing so. Even if they have ulterior motives. Ultimately, you’ll benefit from their actions in some way.
@NianticCasey-ING Maybe you can explain Red Solo's response better to them. But for me. It stands for letting players play and enjoy the games and community forums. The forums aren't even a 3 days old. People may not agree with one and another every single time. But they can be nice and play together.
@AgentB0ss-ING @Theisman-ING Great to see you both over here!
The answer to both of your questions (how to report someone for manipulating likes/insightful reactions and how to report spammy users) is in the 'Flag' section. You can report Community members for violations of the above guidelines and they won't receive your username or information.
Thank you for this information. I would like to ask a question? Do I do it on here or create it?
@NianticCasey-ING Can we get a LOL/Rolling the EYEs/Are You Serious? additional options to click on like the Like/dislike/Insightful?
Maybe also take a look at https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/discussion/214/history-of-ingress-pokemon-players#latest @NianticCasey-ING? I don't think I'm alone in feeling that post was misplaced and does not add value to the News section.
Thanks.
It was approved it was in the pending section.
It was likely approved by the Vanilla forum moderators and not Niantic team, @Gabriel03221-PGO.
The pending it was in was the catch system that they review before approving. Took a few days for a couple approvals that all hit various times today.
Which is why I've requested @NianticCasey-ING to take a look at it, @Gabriel03221-PGO. If deemed appropriate I'm sure it will stay. Not my decision to make.
